This hits so hard. I just had to drop out of a top 10 school due to finances and mental health issues and return home, with my only real option being a min wage job and an online Uni. It's tough to come to terms with such realities, being sold a dream of stardom when I was young and all that, but.. sometimes, things just don't work out; doesn't mean it's all over, though. I'm young, I'm capable, and even if I don't get to waive around a fancy degree, doesn't mean my dreams can't still be accomplished. Ive got time, and so does everyone else. It's a bitter sweet feeling. On one hand, it feels like admitting defeat, on the other.. it feels like I'm taking control by making the right decisions in the face of adversity. Only time will tell.. but, in the interim, I'll just listen to songs like this and bask in the warmth that I'm not alone in my struggle.

Tips for college: - Do community college first, then transfer to a University later. Your first couple of years will all be general education classes and classes for your degree that are very basic and any school will have, so do them at a much cheaper community college before transferring to the school you actually want and the credits will transfer with you. - Take as many classes that start later in the day as you can. Whether you plan to party or not, you’re still gonna kick yourself for taking early classes - Learn as much about the campus before school starts as you can. Every school gives tours of campus for incoming students, take one. - If possible, don’t live on campus. Look for any rent listings nearby, students will almost certainly be renting out a house and need another roommate. It’ll be a lot cheaper than the cost of the room and board you’ll have to pay when you’re done with school. - Speaking of roommates, you won’t like having them at first. Roommates can and will be frustrating to you, even if they’re very nice and get along with you eventually you’ll get tired of living with them. That’s okay, and you aren’t a bad person for not wanting to live with them after a while, just hang in there and remember the good things about them to help. - Try to meet/talk to as many people as you can. This can be at parties, but also just at clubs or in class, in your dorm building, etc. Most schools now will even have a Discord channel or something similar that you can join, same for the clubs. - If you DO plan to party, make sure that somebody knows where you’re going, make sure you have a plan for a ride back, and don’t drink anything you didn’t watch get served to you. Always keep your cup against your chest, if they have a “candy bowl” (bowl full of random pills) please please PLEASE do not take from that. Doing some drugs can be fun, but please do them safely. - If you have chances to visit home, try not to take them often. You’re gonna miss home, a lot. You’re gonna feel like your childhood is over, like your life is over, like you’re never gonna get to be home again, but that’s what EVERYBODY goes through. I promise you aren’t the only one, the less you run back home over weekends or days off the better. The best way to fight that feeling is to let yourself enjoy being away, let yourself stay at school as much as you can. - Remember to take a breath and remember: you’re doing okay. Sometimes it’ll be fun, sometimes it’ll be stressful. But that’s just life, college is giving you a chance to start learning how to tackle adulthood without leaving you to the wolves, so when it’s getting hard or scary just remember that you can push through, it WILL be okay. - Look up as many of your books online as you can, because almost always there are ways to pirate them. And don’t feel bad for doing this, the university makes a bunch of money anyway. Sometimes you’ll get a tenured professor who’s cool and will straight up list the websites you can use for free books, otherwise just look online and you’ll find something. - If you can get a part time job, do. Looks good on a resume but more importantly it will get you the cash to buy gas and food, and often times the school itself will have work programs that make sure it doesn’t conflict with you schedule. - Go do the things you aren’t sure you’ll like, now is the time to find yourself. You never know if you actually might like something, and if you don’t you always have the power to leave. - Remember that things are almost never as good or as bad as they seem at the time. This has already been true and will continue to be true for your whole life, the bad times will seem like the worst and the good times will seem euphoric and better than anything. Just remember that like all of life, you will keep moving forward and these things will eventually pass. The breakup will pass, the bad grade will pass, the hangover will pass. Do not be afraid to live because you might go through bad times later, it is the bad times that give the good their meaning. You need both sunshine and rain for the flower of your life to grow. Edit: Okay, three things: 1. Yes, the first thing is very specific to the kind of major you want, try to find out what kind of classes you’ll need. 2. For many people college just isn’t worth it anymore, and that’s fine. You don’t have to go. 3. “Do drugs safely” -> Talking about weed and shrooms, gang. Don’t do hard drugs, but shit like that is common and very safe, safer than alcohol.

I agree with everything on this list, but me personally I wouldn’t recommend taking MANY classes in the daytime 🤕 you could possibly get overwhelmed, it’s best if you could do at least three classes at most OR even four (I’m taking three classes and everything is going very well😼🙏)
@mistertwister20004 ай бұрын
@@irjectjadeThat’s the final thing on the list I forgot to add: If you don’t think college is for you, that’s fine. You can learn basically anything and everything through the internet, for a lot of people that juice just isn’t worth the squeeze anymore. If you need time to decide, take it.

I agree with all but the first as a general rule. The experience and connections you make at a University are far more valuable than at community college and you should, if possible, not miss out on having/making those in the first couple of years. This applies double for STEM degrees (probably law and medicine, too, but those aren’t my experience), where extracurricular experience in teams and labs is invaluable to have even in the first two years. However, if you are daunted by University and want community college experience to get used to it, definitely makes sure the credits you are offered will transfer to your university of choice and that the course structure allows you to graduate on your intended schedule. For example, some course chains may take three years to complete that don’t have any comparable credits to your community classes.

Yeah epecially if you're going to apply to a super competitive grad school. You just meet someone super impressive, and think "That's one spot less", and then you hear everyone's doing what you're doing. I mean fuck, and everyone's saying you're doing good, but that means nothing at some point. Then you hear of some super crazy hacks that you missed out on. I mean fuck again, I know three people who got into top 15 colleges with mediocre applications through some stupid program and lying about their financial status. One person's parents had off-shore bank accounts. There's a famous story about it in China. Two students are duking it out in their college classes. One is barely 10th place while the other is 1st. 1st place gets everything he wants, grinds his ass in hard-to-get positions, and eventually gets a respectable job. 10th place comes back from an overseas program, gets a great internship, and is given a management role, bossing 1st place around. 10th place had their parents set their path while 1st had to fumble around himself.

Having been through it already. And gone to grad....do YOUR best. It's not about what you achieved, it's about being able to look back on it and say you honestly tried as hard as you could. That's how you make sure you lack regrets. I did a lot of things. Some panned out, some where dead ends. My health got bad later and some stuff I had been working on was suddenly not an option. So much changes over time. But I can look at my actions with pride and say, I always did the best I could. And when I didn't, I learned from it and grew as a person. You can do it. ^_^

That line saying " I try my best, to try my best" hit hard. Sometimes, life in college can get overwhelming and it feels like you can only give everything 5%. You want to do your best and you know you can do better but it feels like your giving all you have. If you choose to push through it and really try your best (giving more than what you think you can), you'll get through it better than ever and have more confidence that you CAN do it. And this applies to life and not just college. Life can get tough, but we CAN do this!!!
@MystralThunder4 ай бұрын
I mean, when you have 20 things to do.. then five percent is the best you're going to be able to do. You wouldn't blame a child for being unable to lift 200 pounds, would you? No, if you needed them to, you'd have them do it five pounds at a time, and do some of it on different days. Even then, it seems that child should never have to do those things. Be gentle with yourself, but be firm.
