This is a two part series- Beekeeper and Commercial Queen Breeder, Jose Uribe, heads up to our Lassen Yard where the bees are threatened by the Dixie Fire. This video was shot in mid-July; by August 6th the fire had grown to become the largest single (i.e. non-complex) wildfire in the state's history.
Jose meets up with the team at the ranch where the oldest standing barn in California is located. It was built in 1867-187; it took 3 years to build, all by hand, and was the first homestead in Plumas County. Jose chats with Ranch Manager, Felix Gonzalez, about the property and the status of the fire. The team is there, equipped with fire hoses and water to put out any spot fires and protect the structures from burning.
After securing the bee yard and setting up a Parmak Magnum 12-volt solar charger in order to keep out any wildlife that may be displaced due to the fire and now searching for food, Jose heads home. As he leaves the property, the fire is has grown- initially 8 miles out but now 3 miles. He feels confident the property will be protected by the ranch team and firefighters scheduled to arrive on the property.
