@@medogabr9952 I gave up for now. Follow Getfaster and you might eventually get an answer when I try again. Right now I'm dealing with stripped T30 tirx screws trying to remove the fenders.

This is an awesome video. Extremely helpful -- I'm looking at replacing the guibo (flexdisc) in my E36 and was wondering how easy it would be. Looks like the answer is very!

Yes, you can. The rear shifter support mount will be different. The mount and bushing bolt to a bracket up in the top of the tunnel. If your E30 is 86 or older, the shifter support will be a steel plate instead of the aluminum arm and it will be mounted to the rear of the transmission by two mounting blocks that have 8mm Allen head bolts securing them to the transmission. You should replace these mounts (as well as the rear support mount).

Hi I've got a 2001 E46 320D SE, would it be the same process or are there things differently on my model, such as bolt positioning, connectors etc? Also would I have to remove the gearbox + clutch to replace the short shift. Many thanks and great videos!

Watch our two-part video on replacing a flywheel and clutch. We show the shifter shaft seal replacement when the transmission is out of the car, but you can do the job in the car, once you have the driveshaft front and the flex disc removed, as well as the shifter linkage disconnected.

The difficulty of an automatic to manual transmission conversion is fully dependant on the year and model in question, as well as the knowledge and abilities of the installer. Early models involve simple mechanical work and just a bit of simple wiring for reverse lights and starter circuit, while later models can involve much more electrical work. Replacing the flex-disc (Guibo) is not terribly difficult. As you can see in the video, you just need to drop the exhaust (including the catalytic converter) and the heat shields to access the driveshaft. We do keep the flex-discs in-stock at BAVAUTO dot COM.

My 2000 323i 5 speeds shifter is very rubbery, you can even move it side to side while in gear. Which part is usually the culprit?

Is guess the shifter bushing. It's the cup that the gear lever pivots in. You can check it out buy popping the console trim and the boot off

Disphonic x - We can't reply directly to your comment due to it being entered from Google. The E46 set-up will be very similar to what you see in this video. You should be able to fully do the install using this E36 install DIY.

okay thank-you. I just bought the UCC delrin bushings and I am gonna attempt this tomorrow. I tried calling you guys today but you were really busy. I hope these bushings is all I need to stop shifter slop.

Disphonic x - What model are you driving? You likely will need more than this to remedy a sloppy shifter.

Very similar for the E46 chassis. You should be able to use this video as a step by step guide. Your exhaust will be different, but the rest is 100% (or very close to it) the same.

What size socket did you use to take off the drive shaft ?

They should be 13mm on an e36

+George Patton Your 2001 530i could have this transmission or the A5S-325Z. If it was produced up through 02/01 it will have the transmission shown. If 03/01-on it will have the other transmission. The general procedures are similar, but the exact locations of drain and fill plugs and the filter are different.

+Bavarian Autosport Mine is a fairly early 2001 model. Not positive on the production month but it was purchased December of 2000. I believe that means it has the S5D-320Z?

What nonsense... the self adjusting clutch hold significantly longer than non SAC clutches. You should also mention that a non DMF flywheel will reduce fuel economy at highway speeds at the expense of engine responsiveness.
