I get asked a lot of questions about clothing. Hats, gloves, Boots, pant, jackets and shirts. I figured it would be best to make a video on my entire collection. The video turned out to be over two hours long so I broke it into two parts!

You can't beat an M65 field jacket. Been my favorite cool weather clothing since I inherited my dad's when I was a teenager. I've been through the thickest brush and abused it heavily since then, and I still wear it today. Most importantly, they make you look cool. This is a great video, looking forward to part two! Lots of nice gear there! I like the gen 3 stuff also. My favorite camo though is the German Flecktarn! Look into that and see what you think.I live in Washington State and the darker color pattern matches well with our environment here.

Wow just wow David. I could come to your house & shop & you wouldn't even know I was there... lol.... We use to call those hats stocking caps. My daughter calls them beanies. It has to be a difference in age groups? I have a problem finding boots to fit my size feet. Women's are to tight & they don't make men's little enough. So I have to get boys sizes & there's not a whole lot to choose from. So frustrating. The only military store we had in town shut it's doors this year. I was really upset about that, bc they had a lot of cool things in there store. It was always busy when you drove by. I could remember when my Dad would take me there when I was very young. It was a all around great srore. We would buy foam to make cushions out of & buy the vinyl fabric to cover it with for our boat cushions. And they had a great selection of indoor/outdoor carpet to put in your boat. Oh well life move on. Thanks for sharing this 1st collection of gear. Looking for part 2 soon. Be safe, Chris from Missouri
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 4 жыл бұрын
Lol! I bet a few boxes could vanish and over time I wouldn't even notice! I think what items are called are based on location and age groups both. Sorry to hear about your military store closing but it doesn't surprise me. Most of the folks that buy bulk military surplus would rather sell it online than deal with a brick and mortar store. After all, would you rather have customers based in one or two cities or sell to all of America? I can see which is better. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching

One other helpful thing about that camo (edit** Gortex) jacket with the bill and the elastic skirt. Is the skirt is great for keeping the snow out. A lot of snowboarding jackets have that skirt for the powder runs through the trees. Especially when you sit down to take it all in. Thank you for another great video Dave. May God bless you and all who are fortunate enough to see it.

Wheeew! a marathon video, because I always watch all of yours to the end. For the winter I use "Thinsulate" gloves & "Tobbogan" type head wear and I also recently bought Nomex flight gloves to supliment my TIG welding gloves. I always wear cotton or wool socks as my feet sweat too much in man made fibres & it rarely gets above 20C 70F here in the UK. For outer wear I love the modern fabrics for waterproof, insulating, lightweight packing and robustness in the woods, although as a very young army cadet in the 1960's we still wore "Battle Dress" which was all wool (shirts too) this was good in winter & warm when wet, but a nightmare in summer. Some used to shave the inside of their shirts but I wore a T shirt with a V cut in the neck to stop the itching. Stay safe & be well. Dave.
@Reallybigmonkey1

Amazing how differing choices and opinions can be. I cant wear cotton socks because they hold my sweat against my skin. I switched to a poly nylon sock and the wetness problem went away. Im with ya on a t shirt under wool tho! Thanks for watching Brother

I laughed out loud at the tube part. I believe these are called "buffs". I was going to say, I just discovered these this last winter and love the tube combined with a beanie cap. I do the same with my winter gear , wearing winter gear that is too tight gets cold , the idea is to have some air space , the air space will warm up trapping warm air . The most important layer is your outer shell , the reason I say this is that you have got to block the wind , the rain and the snow , Wind is a killer it cuts like a knife and will take away your energy. A good outer shell will keep your inner layers functioning . As for me , i layer up because sitting still waiting for a deer gets cold . good video thanks again

Good stuff as always man. It's great you point out the difference between backpacking and what us silly woodsmen do. Backpackers scowl at our boots but as you said, they aren't busting brush, which would tear their little shoes up. They also aren't carrying much weight at all, which is why we need the sturdiness of a boot. Put 35+ lbs on their back and then they'll see why shoes aren't good for hiking.

I often do technical work outdoors in cold weather. I need to have the maximum dexterity with my hands. I use 9 mil nitrile gloves. They will keep your hands dry and provide a little bit of protection from the cold for a short duration. Take frequent breaks to warm your hands back up. Also use the proper size of nitrile gloves for your hand size so they fit snug.

Always enjoy your videos and this is another good one. Those all grip gloves that appear to have seen better days, you can replace those at Harbor Freight for $1.99. I love those things for summer time outside work because your hands don't get all sweaty. Your M65 jackets, I have an old one with the liner and an artic hood that is wool lined and has a heavy wire in the edge around your face to keep the wind out, all those buttons on the inside around the collar of the jacket are used to attach the hood which has a flap that goes on the outside of the collar. and yes some might call you a hoarder but you use all your stuff so they're just jealous.

Great video Dave. We call them Toboggans in Texas too. A buddy of mine from Canada told me they call them Tukes. I started calling them Tukes as well because I thought it sounded way cooler to call them Tukes than Toboggans. Problem is nobody else in Texas knows what a dang Tuke is!?!?! LOL!!! Rocky makes some great boots. I’ve tried Bates as well but they seam to come apart especially if you get them wet. I finally settled on some Reebok boots with a side zipper. They are the most comfortable and durable boots that I own. I purchased the Tru-Spec GoreTex rain system in Multicam as well. It has the jacket, the zip in fleece liner and the pants. The system works great but it was expensive. I think that the little skirt inside the jacket is actually a snow barrier. I’m sure it keeps the wind out as well. Thanks for sharing brother.

About 35 years ago, we moved cross country for work. My wife made friends with a woman from West Texas who had a young son the same age as ours. They used to go grocery shopping together , and on one trip just before Christmas, they started talking about what to buy the boys for presents. The friend told my wife that she intended to get the boy a toboggan. My wife couldn't believe it, as we lived in the desert! What the lady actually meant was a watch cap...

DPM is British, they use MTP now, a variant of Multicam. As soon as I get my income tax return, I'm gonna get a Gen 2 or 3 Goretex top and bottom from the ECWCS system. That one sleep shirt you said looked inside out is the level 2 layer for the Gen 3 ECWCS system. Soldiers call it the waffle layer. It's called grid fleece. Condor makes a really good grid fleece top and bottom called the Base II. Level 1 is the silk weight, then level 2 is grid fleece, i think Goretex is level 6. You have so much cool stuff it's unreal. Can't wait to see part 2.

Big Dogs clothings' HQ is out of Santa Barbara , Ca. They have Stores around the south . There is a store in N.C . Not trying to be a butt wipe but a "lot" of Canadians call our stocking caps , beanie watch cap, toboggans a TOQUE . Joe Robinet does, and other Canadians I watch and know do also . French derived . Neck gaiter 20:45 or Buff . Do rag , drive on rag . Dave . You made a video showing how to make that skillet bag / balaclava . 36:40 Muck boots . I found Terramar on STP about 6 yrs ago . Tried there long sleeve Climasense shirts . Wear those almost exclusively in the Fall for hiking , backpacking AND a seperate one at night to sleep in . Since , I have bought many , many Terramar clothes . Just picked up a full zip , grid fleece , hooded shirt as a mid layer last week . Wore it once so far , LOVE it . Terramar for the price , may be the hidden jewel in the outdoor Industry !! Have a few of there different weight fleece jackets / hoodies . All great . Well what have we learned other than ole Dave is a fashion w#@$e . That he is not a hoarder . A real hoarder would have bought 20 ea. of those hats and buffs :D Nice video Dave . Can't wait to see your other clothes . That last shirt is GRID fleece / polartec grid fleece . Great stuff !!

Idk if I've just gotten used to them but I wear wool socks year round I have the same omni wool socks you showed. I do pool service in Arizona so its plenty hot and I find they insulate my feet from the heat of the ground and keep me "cooler" than I would be otherwise. For reference, I wear big 5 magnum "storm" boots, blue jean's, cotton long sleeve with a 50 uv shirt over top, merino wool buff and REI cotton large brim hat all summer. The often low humidity likely makes all the difference but in my experience insulation can work both ways and even tho it seems counter intuitive. Insulation to some extent can keep you at a more consistent lvl of hot that won't exceed what's possible to work with when combined with proper ventilation hydration and easy pace. Just a random thought I love the videos, thx for sharing all the knowledge and gear. (Guess you're not the only one who can get long winded on things) always a pleasure, be well.

Very interesting Vince! Amazing what effects humidity have on how one dresses and how it feels. We have extrememe humidity here in Georgia so wool is out in the summer. I can see the wool socks tho because Ive learned how the ground absorbs the suns rays and releases it as heat. I'm glad you like all the videos and Thanks for watching

If every dollar we spend makes a statement, then your gear room is reflecting a multitude of items that not only suit your needs but have been created to stand up to the test of time. In a world where countries have dissolved into massive corporations it is more important than ever that we not only raise awareness of true value, but take care and maintain what we already have. I must say what i love about your videos {beside your blunt honesty} is the way you make me feel like your talking to me and not talking at me. Your communicational skills are way above average and your gear room is beyond AMAZING...! The only thing i didn't like is that part two is already made and your going to have mr néva wait two weeks to see it...? That just doesn't feel fair. ~ Enjoy your weeks end!

Dave, you can open yer own store lol! What I usually wear for pants in winter or summer (the only 2 seasons we have here in upstate NY LOL) are jeans and sweatpants (different weights). If it is raining or snowing heavy, I'll grab my rain/snow pants, which are believe it or not, a pair of my bunker pants from when I was a firefighter (or the new pair I bought) with the thermal liner removed for warm weather or in for the cold. They are comfortable, warm in winter, 'airy' in summet and puncture proof. Usually anything else, my legs will either sweat or freeze. Unconventional, but it works for me. Shirts/jackets...I use the 'regular' stuff. What do you do for straight rain gear? Thanks for another great vid and shall see u in part 2.

Always interested in your views on clothing and very good tips and tricks. I thought I had a lot of cammo jackets at 4!. Now I have to laugh at my paltry sum. The gloves with the plastic knuckles are called tactical gloves over here in England and I have a pair which are the same as yours. Find them a bit awkward when closing hand but otherwise great for the price. Never knew about the parka leg attachment and was telling a friend about that as he has one! Many thanks as always for your attention to detail and the effort you put in to make such good and entertaining videos. Always appreciated. Looking forward to part 2. Regards as always, S.

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Hi Dave. Thank You for your comment. Keep in mind that "neighbors" in some cases, pertain to folks in the area nearby. In a scenario in which someone is in a room in their house, in near darkness, with the shades pulled down, and watching a movie with video glasses, and someone nearby makes a comment that directly pertains to what is on the screen, and what is being heard on the headphones, then possibly it is helpful to listen to such comments, and learn from it. Comments like "he knows that the hospital is watching him", "he just gave the hospital what they need", and similar comments, could be indicative of excessive surveillance being performed on an individual, with a possible aggressive agenda in mind. Just sayin', if you know what I mean.

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Or, how about if I or someone in their kitchen was rinsing a fork in the sink, back and forth, with the widow shaded, and someone nearby made a comment about "a stabbing motion"? In any case, it is, what it is. It seems that some folks may be grabbing at straws, looking for an image or video, that they can "say" is threatening, when in reality, it is not. Thanks for reading.
