I’ve been binge watching every video Leon ever performed on video and listening to his deep tracks. His piano playing was inspirational powerful and brilliantly executed. Thanks Elton for giving the man a hand before he passed. Thankful he was able to receive R&R hall of fame before he left this world. There will never be another Leon, he was a one off!

Elton...Leon Russell is my idol too...and I can't sing or play a note. Everything about him moves me. His appearance- "Master of Space & Time" indeed. That voice! An arresting growl..like no other. One of the most soulful voices in all of music...with that twang in there. His piano playing? Pure holy roller. Like something straight out of a revival meeting. And then there are his songs....

@@mark1952able I grew up in the 80s and am a fan of R&B music so missed the 70s when Leon Russell was in his prime. His songs are classic and timeless - three of my favourite versions of his songs are "Superstar" by Luther Vandross; "This Masquerade" by George Benson and "A Song for You" by Donny Hathaway /Ray Charles. The fact that so many singers have covered his songs is testimony to his talent as a songwriter.

I got the surprise of a lifetime - I bought tickets to see Elton John in Chattanooga, Tennessee a few years back. When I got to the venue there were two pianos on stage - I'm thinking - OMG - is Leon going to perform tonight? I was in shock when he came on stage. Nothing was said about Leon being there - no advertisement that I saw - but I'm telling you - to see Leon Russell and Elton John on the same stage was a life changing experience for me that I will never forget! It was a fabulous show! The only regret I have is that I didn't bring my brother with me because he is a huge Leon Russell fan. I called him from the concert and told him that I could not believe I was seeing Leon Russell peform!

I remember the first time I saw Leon Russell, which was in the documentary about Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour. Cocker was excellent, but the person on stage that you couldn't take your eyes off was LR. He didn't move much or say much or even change his facial expressions much, but it was obvious that he was completely in charge of everything happening around him. He was the ringmaster and the musical center. That might have been the first time I understood what charisma is.
@chlynn13b926 жыл бұрын
I saw it live, in Detroit, there very first show. Just like the film, we could not take our eyes off this man in the top hat. playing both piano and guitar and leading the band. Joe Cocker was a great singer but Leon was so multi talented, great songwriter too I love how you summed it up. He had so much charisma on stage. I saw many of his concerts in the 70's and he was always great. Nobody like him.

There's some footage called The Paradise studios recordings, it is he and JJ , lots of others also but you say more of JJ on this film then you've ever seen of him. Also what makes the whole thing worth watching is JJ showing you his guitar and how he's modified it. I think he was really depressed towards the end he was always kind of a recluse but Mark knopfler pretty much stole his entire style. I think it was kind of angry about that. And I don't know what Eric Clapton would have done without JJ songwriting after midnight etcetera. I believe that he also wrote they call me the breeze. But you probably know that cuz you're a fan.

They kind of missed it on this one. Leon Russell was the number one session player in LA for many years. He was a very important part of the Wrecking Crew witch was over looked. Leon played on hundreds and hundreds of hit songs that these women did not understand. He is a National Treasure. He is up there with people like Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. These women would faint if they knew how many hits Leon played on. He never looked for the credit, but he sure deserves it. Eltons output does not even compare with the things Leon has done. It seems like Elton was the only person in the room that know how heavy Leon was. RIP to the King. Elton....keep trying. You might catch up to Leons output in about 80 years.Thanks for helping him out Elton.

Tumbleweed Connection is the best album ever released by anyone. It was released in 1970. It got little notice and produced no noticeable hits. I became an EJ fan in 1973 when I heard Goodbye Yellow Brick road. I saved up enough money to buy EJ's albums prior to Goodbye Yellow Brick road. When I listened to Tumbleweed Connection, I was blown away. To have EJ say he wants to return to that type of music makes me happy. Any of you who have not listened to Tumbleweed Connection, I urge you to do so.

Mary Barnwell Why do you find it necessary to comment on Elton John's 'lifestyle' in order to comment on his great music ? What does one have to do with the other ? No one really cares what you think of his lifestyle because it's no one's business. Elton John has contributed more to music history than almost anyone around, as has Leon Russell. Just enjoy the music and quit with the judgement call.
