Wonder if Rome had a Keith Emerson like rock star, who could play multiple water organs, at the same time? I can picture it in my head now....

Thank you for this short, but very informatve series of videos. Would you be able to tell me more about the origins of the background music playing in this 1st part? It is clearly something in 9/8 time signature and from the Macedonian region, but does it have a name? Thanks in advance.

Thank you, very pleased that you enjoyed the videos. Im afraid the origins of the music is unknown, but it is being played on a reconstructed water organ.

because the church could afford it, the pipes pointed towards the sky/God, it was impressive, had a powerful sound and was a parabel to the almighty God. also a lot of churches in recent times especially gospel use piano instead

Basically as churches got bigger and congregations git larger, the orchestra wasn't large enough to fill the building. The modern organ is built to essentially replace the orchestra, and provide enough sound for the entire congregation to sing to.

Amazing how christians take everything pagan. Its the techology of paganism that puts þunor/mamaragan hammers in modern pianos.
