I’d say it’s kind of like learning to ride a bike or drive a car, but just a little more complicated. You get more comfortable and confident with time and practice.

@@savanahleigh6261 Yeah for sure! While I know it, I think for most students curious about NFO/SNA selection, not many are aware on how to study for the astbe per say. (1) So tips on studying for the exam? Ive had to tutor a lot of ppl on basic maths and science and aircraft functionality (I'm an engineering major). However, it may be helpful to recommend some resources (ie airwarriors, or Barron's books, online gouges, SAT/ACT problems, etc). Whatever is allowed to be shared with the public that is. @@jsummers5880 Enlisted to Officer would be an amazing accomplishment! I’m not super knowledgeable in all of the types of programs that allow you to do that. To make a couple : Seaman to Admiral (STA-21) or Naval Academy Prepatory School (NAPS). The best advice I can give is ASK YOUR SUPERIORS. Make sure they know you’re interested in it or else it won’t be on their radar. Also, if you don’t like an answer you get from one person, ask someone else! Everyone has varying levels of knowledge on the specialty programs the Navy has to offer. Wishing you the best of luck!

Hi Joey! I actually went the ROTC route. I scored 7s and 8s, but definitely try to get at least all 7s. They probably won’t look at packets that scored 6s in any category unless they are low on numbers. I would suggest searching on KZfaq or just the internet for test taking tips. There are a few out there that saved me a lot of time during my test so hopefully they will have a positive impact on your score as well! What areas are you specifically having the biggest issue with (if you don’t mind me asking. No need to respond if you don’t want to divulge that information on a public forum)

What’s the height limit for navy/marine pilots? I’m 5ft tall and I always hear mixed information about pilots. Also leaving for bootcamp next week for marines!
@savanahleigh6261
@savanahleigh6261 3 жыл бұрын
So exciting!! Good luck to you there :) Kind of a complicated answer butttt here we go: Not sure if you are going enlisted or Officer route. Enlisted actually can’t be pilots but they CAN work as part of the aircrew (doing maintenance on aircraft, workings comms, weapon systems, etc). I’m pretty confident that there are no height/weight limitations for aircrew members. You just have to have a qualifying ASVAB score, pass a hearing test, and have correctable 20/20 vision. As for Marine Officers who want to become pilots, it’s not as simple as meeting a height/weight requirement, There are also more specific measurements that you have to meet (not a comprehensive list): 1. Height: 5’2”- 6‘ 5” 2. Weight: 103lb-231lb 3. Sitting height: 31in-40.9in 4. Sitting eye height: 26in-31.4in In additions to this, even if you are within these specifications, certain aircraft have even more strict measurement requirements. So it’s possible you wouldn’t qualify for ALL aircraft even if you fall within these general standards listed above. I hope this helps a bit! I know there is a lot of information and I barely even scratched the surface! Leaves a good starting point for you to do some further research if you want.

So unfortunately I actually decided to take the ASTB a couple days before my selection package was due. I didn’t have much time to study so I just studied what I could and then took the exam the next day. Thankfully I passed! It is definitely worth the investment to purchase one of the official ASTB study aids. I borrowed one from a friend. They can be expensive so maybe there are some online that are used! Additionally, reach out to recruiters/a local ROTC unit as they may have practice exams they are able to give you. Hope this helps!

Are you able to wear glasses to become a naval pilot? And if you are, are you limited to certain aircraft? Lot of mixed answers out there
@oliviaottenbreit6538
@oliviaottenbreit6538 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if you can wear glasses when you fly, but to be a naval pilot, you have to have, at worst, 20/40 vision that is correctable to 20/20, whether that’s through contacts or surgery. This is all stuff that I’ve heard, the Navy might have changed this as of recently, but I do not know. I don’t know the specific vision requirements for different aircrafts, I’ve only ever heard of height and weight requirements. Hope this helps!

If you were selected as an NFO, try to get something else, or better yet, get out of the military. As an NFO, you are in no way “equal” to your pilot shipmates. Because pilots have viable job opportunities outside the navy, pilot retention is generally not as good as NFO retention, meaning you will be competing against more colleagues than pilots do, with fewer promotion and command opportunities. In addition, computers, black boxes have been taking over the NFO job. Navigation, weapons systems, etc have made the NFO/Navigator Combat Systems Officer job in many platforms unnecessary. I.E., single seat FA-18, F22, F35, B2. Even the electronic warfare EA6B with it’s three NFOs has been replaced with the one NFO EFA18. I believe currently NFOs have a six-year service commitment after wings (slightly shorter than pilots), which means after a year or so of “flight” training, you still owe six years. Better off finding another career and starting in it, then delaying your life to learn inapplicable skills and be treated as a second-class citizen.
