*Note- I have left this contract as of the beginning quarter of 2022. I will also add that in the primary state which I am Licensed out of and in the region I operated on this contract, Federal PSO's do have Arrest Powers under Citizen's Arrest Law apart from the ability to Detain as an Acting Federal Official. That is a big misconception for people based on either their lack of understanding for how this all works, or that they are in a different state/ region with different laws and regulations. Also with misunderstanding and misconception, there is a thing called the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) which is part of the PSO Contractor duties to enforce on Federal Property, this is Congressionally-doctored Regulation. Also, Uniform requirements will vary based on the Company and issuance of gear for the FPS contract. Many require a Dress type Black Uniform Pant/ Trouser, so if it has to be clean looking, go for something with internal cargo pockets like the 5.11 PDU/ TDU Class A Pant. If anyone has any questions about this material or how to get into Federal/ Defense Security Contracting, leave a comment. Enjoy.

I have 3 years of law enforcement experience and 2 years EMS, wasn’t planning on going back to this kind of work, but am at a point now where I have a family and need to make as much money as I can, and they are starting at $34/HR which is more than most of the LE agencies in my city.

Hey no problem! Well they're paying more than they were for us here lol, jump on that. I will add that some uniform nuances may be different for your region based on what the company issues or requires apart from DHS LE Dress and Grooming Standards (like the pants, you may be relegated to a more dress-style pant). That's a different company for the FPS contract so some things may differ otherwise. Good luck and stay safe!

I work security under a local government contract. I volunteer for an organization that works with FEMA and many other state and federal agencies during natural and manmade disasters and other things. So I have those courses and others you spoke of. Not in a security capacity though. Security like you I respect more than others, most others, that don’t work within the government spectrum of any level. Have you ever noticed that it’s the security guards that work non government sites and contracts like malls and gas stations and such that are always the most tact out security guards. It’s funny to me because not even security like you at the federal level is all tact out. I’d definitely work for your company if I was able. Much respect and be safe!

Largely, our uniform and kit requirements are set by DHS-FPS, and the company upholds and provides the required stuff for the contract. There are times even in the FPS gig that we have more Tactical Gear on but that's saved for extreme FEMA activation emergencies like the big Hurricanes/ large Disaster response activation. I'm not on that contract anymore, it was okay for what it is (could pay better and we could have much better quality kit) but not what I normally do and TC was jerking me around with transferring back to an overseas position, so I bailed. Thanks, and cheers!!!

Since you used to deployed w FEMA, Is the confiscation of firearms, like what occurred from back during hurricane Katrina, discussed? If so, what’s said about it and general opinions about it? What’s your opinion on if fellow contractors would follow confiscation orders again?
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary 2 жыл бұрын
Never had that situation/ order of that kind on any of the FEMA deployments I had as a Federal Contractor, and no it was never even brought up. I was deployed to Katrina aftermath while I was in the Army (was at Benning so we were close-ish to a lot of the worst of it from our base and south), and I never saw nor heard of Contractors performing confiscations in the greater span of our sector, and we were the ones out there in the mix and in large alongside some National Guard contingents and the LEO's and SAR's and a few capable volunteers. The Contractors largely protected Federal assets and facilities like the Nuclear Power plants, administrative office sites and other locales with sensitive information, and Federal personnel. The reports of gunfights with Gangs is true though. The whole Contractor-operation gun confiscation thing is false/ debunked from everything i've seen and experienced. What local LEO's and Sheriffs did is another story that I don't have full details on. The greatest majority of us (including our supervisors and team leaders, by job requirement anymore we're all former Military or LE or other applicable service experience) would not follow such an unlawful order on home soil, we love and want to protect our freedoms as much as anyone else. Contracting is a job, not a duty-bound contract by oath like Military or Law Enforcement, and I just left a DHS contract because of how they were restricting our capabilities (and just the corporate policy vomit that made it extremely difficult to get promotions and transfer positions) alongside this administration and it's bullshit. I'm not going to protect these people when they're actively trying to ruin our lives and the country, would much rather work for private clients like I have in the past or even an apt and well-paying foreign government on their soil and assisting them with high-level professional services.

Just keep in mind that's the rate before taxes and Union dues should you decide to join that, but congrats dude! For Domestic FPS Contract: The (paid) training is 3 weeks long, you'll take a DHS- proctored test, then start the gig as long as your background checks and E-Qip come back fairly quick with no issues. You'll also have the option to certify for screening equipment (stuff like X-ray machines and magnetometer wands), which will offer more opportunities for site/ venue postings. So, I was on an ERT roster/ position on top of the standard FPS-PSO work so I got to do more of a variety of stuff and travel more than the standard contract. The work mainly comprises of working at Federal Sites like SSA Offices, IRS-TAC's, Immigration Office, FBI Field Office, DHS Field branch, Federal Courthouses, US Attorney's Office, Some DoD Offices and Military Bases, places like that-- just depends on the region and the facilities within a certain travel distance. You may also get the opportunity to do Private client Protection details (like I did for ESPN Sportscasters). Overall, it's partly boring, partly busy work. Certain offices will keep you busier than others, and you being the new guy will likely get some dogshit hours like weekend overnights if there's any 24hr coverage requirements. If you want hours, you'll get them if you play ball like that. The pros: - Decent pay. - 401k and health benefits if you opt-in. - Training and Travel (and mileage over 50mi.) Pay. - Being a Contractor, and you make some good connections. The cons: - Dealing with total buttheads at certain sites (I didn't do that contract to be a watered down cop). - Typical company bureaucracy that will pigeon-hole you into the position with little room for advancement or transfer. * Note- the Company WILL throw you under the bus if you make a serious mistake that injures or kills someone without merit, as we say, "there's a lawyer behind every bullet". They will not back you outside of anything less than a justified shoot, and can even happen with general Use of Force. Just be smart. - DHS Inspectors breathing down your neck just waiting for you or someone else to make a mistake that they can take advantage of. The Government does not trust anyone including themselves. - Potentially inept leadership and coworkers and poor communication. - The aforementioned terrible and long hours. - Sub-par equipment that in the majority cannot be supplemented for superior personal gear. I left because of many of these cons, and I will not protect this current administration with what they're doing to the American People in large, they are traitors, plain and simple. That and Private Clients pay better nowadays ;) Hope that helps!

Gonna get a job is my plan part-time on the side of my main job to learn the inner workings of the biz then go indie as fast as possible. Any advice for a 41 year old with no LEO/Military experience to maximize income doing this? any certs you think that would look good I could acquire over others?
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary Ай бұрын
Hey thanks for reaching out-- first off, it is going to vary wildly by state on what the requirements and process is to get a Security License, typical framework is to either have an LLC with the proper insurance policies in place as state-required to obtain licensing, or you'd have to be sponsored by a Security Company for employment to obtain licensing. Make sure you look at your state regulations in totality. Since the beginning of 2022 I've gone back to being an independent contractor and subcontractor doing a variety of things, was bouncing back and forth between that and taking on direct employment and contracts with companies over the years. I enjoy being a 1099 but it does come with its challenges in retaining consistent contract work, takes a lot of putting yourself out there and networking to find positions. Insofar as experience needs and training, not to sound like adick but you are behind that curve, I would recommend taking on an entry-level armed security position that a local company offers and getting your feet wet initially like that, and work your way into higher tier type of work and positions. This type of work in the Federal contract and high-level Private Client parts of the sector typically require a good deal of experience, and that's what many Companies look for. There's also training through various modicums, you can do courses and certifications through ASIS International, and additionally take training courses with established organizations like ESI or SECFOR International, they are not cheap though and take some time to complete their curriculum. Hopefully that answers some of your questions, fire away if you have more.

@Mr.Brewer83 Ай бұрын
@@DJTheMetalheadMercenary I already know the process for my state in NH. Only real federal contract work I'd be interested in is with the nuclear power plant but honestly my goal is an independent private armed security officer. You can make 20-30ish/hr up here easily as an armed guard, to a supervisor position...my thought process is work at a local company for a year or two part time on the side to learn and get some experience, take some courses thanks for the ASIS intl recomendation and go indie charging ~$40 an hour doing patrol, sentry, overnight patrol positions directly. ...I do, howerver, have *Some* minor experience in LEO actually. When I was 23 I took a Deputy Sheriff/Constable Training Program in Mass and worked as a Deputy-Constable (in mass they serve court process, and can perform CIVIL arrests for profit, conduct evictions) as part of that program....but that office/position doesn't exist where I live now. Hopefully with some fully occupied office park/building, or some construction/lumber/gravel company up here wanting to have someone watch their stuff overnight. 41 so at this stage I'm looking for the most economic-time path to making more...not a whole lot of need for exec protection services in NH anyways except during election season lol....though getting a contract with the power plant would be awesome. But yes my plan isn't to emulate your path as a federal security per se, more picking your brain about the idea of becoming (again after working for an established company for a year or two to learn the ropes firmly) an independent armed security guard/LLC cutting out the company and charging the same thing they do for my services but only I make that full amount (of course realizing that also maintains my insurance, vehicle maintenance, uniform, etc and isnt pure take home).
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary Ай бұрын
@@Mr.Brewer83 Yeah you'll have to get some years under your belt to accomplish that, start with the entry level armed positions and work your way up over time. DoE/ Nuclear Security will want a minimum of 5 years in Armed Security experience. I do a lot more than just one type of Federal Security Contracting, and for the meantime until a better administration comes in I'm strictly Consulting/Advising and providing Protection work in the Private Client space. Best to invest as much as you can in training and get started on the ground running, or work to establish the education and subsequent licensing to run an LLC or network as a 1099.

Nice! It depends on the person you interview with, I interviewed with the region/ sector LT. and it was pretty straightforward, he just asked if I had experience with Pistols and if I was comfortable working solo/ alone, stuff like that, but again it will depend on your interviewer. They'll make copies of your core/ basic documents and ask a few questions, but mostly they're going off of your experience-- the interview is the easy part, just be professional and think out any answers to their questions. The "hurry up and wait" stuff is what takes the longest besides E-QIP and all the background checks n such. Then once you're onboarded you'll start the 3 weeks of training and start getting equipment issued.

@@illwillscuts Right on, the gig is okay for what it is, you'll fit in just fine. I do have a part 3 and 4 on contracting- the requirements, and the cons/ why it sucks, be sure to check those out too apart from the comments below on this video. To answer your questions: Yes, it is difficult to get an OCONUS contract without Combat or Expeditionary Military Deployment experience or specialized background like SWAT, you will have to put some years in working the FPS or other CONUS/ Domestic contracts to work up to recruitment's consideration to transfer. The training for the FPS contract is pretty easy, 3 weeks divided into 1 week of firearms and oc/ baton/ use of force stuff (they shoot the DHS/ ICE shooting standard) and 2 weeks of policy, legal stuff, and the operational framework for FPS. Then you take a test and finish up any background stuff (sometimes it goes through quick, sometimes not), then you'll get issued uniforms and gear and start working sites, check your schedule regularly. TC/ Constellis looks great on the resume and you do get some good experience from it, absolutely. There was just a lot of things I didn't like about how they managed things and they were jerking me around on a qualified transfer back overseas (AFG withdraw had just happened so slots were limited), and I didn't have much time to do anything regarding free time and home life (it's obviously different with overseas, but I was stateside and did not enjoy that), so I left. I still contract as a 1099 Independent Contractor doing Close Protection work and Analyst work for a Private Investigator as well as an Instructor, so I keep busy lol. If you have the medical documentation for a shaving profile, they can't say anything about it, just make sure you submit copies of the profile to the company and keep a copy on you-- I had to do the same thing for my religious accommodation (Norse Pagan/ Heathen). With medical profiles they may want you to periodically update those documents but that's just situational based on if it's a permanent condition or not.

Fire away! Regarding getting into Armed Federal/ Defense Security Contracting, the companies' websites will have specific criteria and requirements for applying for positions. Highly recommend paying very close attention to the details of the job listings. The main factor is having applicable work experience-- that means either a minimum specified time in Military Service or Law Enforcement (sometimes advanced Medic background is also applicable). For overseas/ OCONUS (outside the continental united states), they want Military experience and at least one Combat or Expeditionary Deployment, or a certain amount of time on a SWAT unit. The other applicable for that is experience already in the industry (obviously). For Domestic/ CONUS positions, the requirements aren't as high but they still require a Military or LE background in large. Positions will vary based on the experience they're looking for and the type of contract it is.

Hey there! What region are you operating in? So, since you're just starting as a PSO in the FPS contract, you'll just have to tough it out for a few years before you can get on special details or additional ERT rotation, time and experience matter to the Company. There occasionally will be emails that go out asking for people to sign up for details, you can put your name on the roster and they'll either call you or not. Kind of a crapshoot with special details. Insofar as transfer to say an OCONUS/ overseas position, you have to re-apply through the job listings hub just like you did (or may have if it wasn't a word of mouth thing and an in-person start of the paperwork with your LT. or CPT.) for this initial PSO position. Kinda crappy the way they do that, but that's what they want/ their criteria for transfer. Also regarding promotion or "moving up", there really isn't much opportunity for that unless the stars align and say the LT. resigns/ leaves otherwise or something, and they see you as a valid choice for the spot based on your experience. Just the name of the game with most of these companies unfortunately. Hope that helps bro, just tough it out for a little while, build up some funds, and see what opportunities come your way and that you can step up for.

@@louisdyson4897 No sh1t?!? I was posted in WI (which is part of Region 5 btw) for most of the contract (I drove all over the State) That's wild dude. So, with the initial 3 weeks of training, the first week is use of force and firearm stuff (done at one of the Tech College CJ/ LEO shooting ranges in MKE, i did several re-cert shoots there when not done at a PD/ LEO facility in my area-- the shooting test is the DHS- ICE shooting standard test on the FPS contract, you'll be issued a .40 cal Smith and Wesson M&P like you see in the video)-- both firearm instructors are former Game Wardens in the State, and an FPS Inspector will be there for all certification and re-cert shooting tests (renewed every 6 months). The following 2 weeks after that you'll be in a conference room at a Hotel doing the rest of the training, then within 1 to 2 weeks after that you'll take the FPS test proctored by the Inspectors, and the Regional FPS Commander will be there (usually is anyway). You'll also have the opportunity after all that is done to go down to Chicago for NWDTP (National Weapons Detection and Threat Training Program) training over a weekend, that certifies you to run X-ray machines, hand Magnetometer wands, and affords the ability to work more posts with screening stations (like Immigration, FBI, and IRS offices). Downside of that additional program is you'll have to deal with the trainers, who we do butt head with sometimes (and they'll contradict each other at times with nuances in procedures). Once you're certified and working those posts, they will randomly show up and do spot check testing and such, it's really, REALLY annoying especially on busy days. I stopped working screening posts after a while because I simply didn't want to have to deal with that lol. The initial training itself isn't bad, fairly easy actually albeit a lot of information to digest and retain, definitely a step up from the general Security gigs in the area moving into a Federal Contract, you'll make some great connections and the pay is okay (could be better but it is what it is). The Company Captain is a nice guy, but he's a yes man. Communication is sparse with him, you'll be talking to your LT. regularly, and he's pretty good over there in the East sector. Insofar as the Union, it's your choice to join or not, WI is a right to work state and you don't have to give the Union a dime if you don't want to, don't let them bully you. DHS- FPS Inspectors can and will show up at any time when on post, sometimes they just come for a visit and shoot the breeze for a few minutes, sometimes they do a little test to see how much of the training you retain and keep up to snuff on. Most of the Inspectors are nice, but don't give them a reason to pull you from a post or the contract. DHS wants to trust the Contractors, but the government really doesn't trust anyone, remember that. You may end up being a post rotation guy and not have a specific stationed post right away unless they need that, so be flexible. You will also have the option to travel to other posts outside of MKE and into the West and North sectors (could be Madison, could be Portage, Superior, Lancaster, wherever) if they ask you to. You'll get some hella mileage pay for that as it just increased-- and keep all your food receipts for anything where you are eating while traveling, that can be reimbursed (if you have to end up staying in a hotel, they pay for that). Hope that answers some questions.

@@louisdyson4897 The proctored FPS Test you have to meet a certain amount of points, if I remember correctly it's in the high 80's percentile to pass. I do believe you get the chance to re-test, but it's really not too difficult of an exam, typical Scantron style test. The Firearm and NWDTP (if electing to get that certification) tests are more difficult in my opinion, but I'm a great shot so I never had an issue passing the shoot, even on days where I didn't care I passed lol, but I usually shot in the top 10%. Some of the old-timer retired LEO's have a hell of a time passing the shoot, but you can re-test shooting quals again before remedial training is needed and another re-test is done, should be able to pass it fine though. With the FPS Contract, you will have your Firearm License/ Cert through the State after passing qualification. If you already have your PSP/ State Security License, it just gets transferred over to the Company through DSPS. The NWDTP Cert is just a little card you get to carry around with your other credentials, on the back of one of your Company ID cards you'll get dated stickers for when you have to renew your OC and Baton certifications alongside your Firearm Cert and First Aid (first aid is done like every 2 to 3 years or so but that may have changed, all other certs are done every 6 months on average, OC and Baton are alternated cycles). The Federal PIV ID Card is issued through either a DHS Office (I believe that's the Airport for MKE) or a FEMA Security Management Office when that's active (that's where I had gotten mine). Like I said in the video, all Duty equipment, uniforms, Vest and ammo are issued. You will get a stipend for boots (only covers about half the cost of a decent pair of boots), and you will be issued uniform pants too, but they're REALLY cheap so I recommend having or getting some nicer Duty pants. They may or may not make a stink about external cargo pockets (which is hypocritical considering the FPS LEO's/ Inspectors can wear them, and they're the picky ones), so something like the 5.11 TDU Class A Duty pant with internal/ zipper hidden leg pockets would be good to get. Regarding supplementary Gear, you can carry your own Flashlight and a tourniquet if you want along any extra medical equipment as long as it's in Black pouches that match the Duty Belt gear, they're pretty picky otherwise though. With Duty Ballistic Plates for the Soft Armor they issue, that is on your dime too. I also recommend carrying a spare handcuff key. Yes, you absolutely will get hours, they're understaffed across the State right now lol (I was one of the guys who left at beginning of the year for many reasons), you will get hours and a good potential to travel to different posts (just remember to log your mileage over 50 miles). I will add that being the new guy, you will very likely get some crap hours, being overnight shifts during the week and on weekends at 24hr coverage posts and such, if you want to be as flexible as you can/ want, you will get hours. Holidays are nearly triple pay too.

@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary Жыл бұрын
Be sure to watch my Part 1 video on Overseas Contractor Loadout, you'll get something similar or the same as that. With mobile guard work, it's just that-- you'll be rolling around in a vic around a base or otherwise designated property(ies) performing protection/ guarding duties, checking fences, walls, access control points, airstrips, guard towers, stuff like that. The training is good (you'll do some training at the Academi/ former BW facility in Moyock, NC), and the pay is decent (could be better but it's a fairly cushy gig), normal rotation is 3 months on, 1 month off through the contract duration. Days are generally broken into every other day you're on for up to 18 hour, but obviously that is subject to change (and can be much longer) and as needed based of staff numbers at any given time. Insofar as Kuwait related nuances specifically, I didn't really spend any time there but there are a few other videos from Contractors who talk about the daily life stuff in Kuwait, the do's and don't's, and stuff like foreign worker visas and taxes. (search youtube for something like "daily life in kuwait working abroad" or "Contractor life in Kuwait", something like that and they'll pop up.)

@@_Bri777_ Hey no problem, helping the team be best prepared is important. Short answer, yes. There is an initial and consecutive Physical Fitness assessments that you'll do at the training facility, and you do have to maintain a level of fitness OCONUS on the job (you will have access to a gym and outdoor areas where you can run), the physical assessments overseas are periodic and sometimes random, but so long as you keep relative standards you shouldn't have any issues. Insofar as weight requirements specifically, just don't be super overweight lol, shouldn't be too big of a deal if you're staying fit to prepare for this kind of work, that's fairly forgiving as long as you can pass any PT tests or other assessments, I never saw that as a big issue with TC/ Constellis but different contracts have different requirements (obviously). Just stay regular and diligent with your workouts.

How to get a job doing this?
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary Жыл бұрын
Specifically for the FPS (Federal Protective Service) domestic contract you must: - Be prior Military or Law Enforcement with at least 2-3 years minimum experience (some fire/ emt's also manage to get in), or prior Armed Security with a minimum of 5 years experience. - Be able to pass all Federal background checks and Medical screenings (as well as a Physical Fitness evaluation). - Not have a criminal record or dui/ owi record. - Not have substantial debt. Really after that, all you have to do it go to a Security Company website or Job Posting hub (like Indeed) and look at the specific job listings based on your State/ location, there will be listings for PSO (Protective Security Officer) positions. Read the requirements/ criteria detailed on the Job Listing, and if you feel you meet them with verifiable and legitimate paperwork and experience, you fill out the application, and then play the waiting game to talk with a Recruiter to see if they pick you up and begin the Onboarding/ Packet process.

I did 12 years on the region 10 contract, 3.5 as a supervisor and NWDTP instructor, I would caution you by saying you're an officer, you're a PSO with no arrest powers, I've seen guys get fired over simple verbage such as arrest and search, we detain and inspect. Getting out of that field was the best decision I've ever made, no one stays for anything but the money, it's all red tape and FPS has final say, get stuck between the company, FPS and federal employees who wanna bitch and complain, that and most local law enforcement don't recognize FPS as law enforcement lol I have several LEO friends who confirm this. I know guys I was a PSO with, went FPO and left within a year or two, that agency is a mess.

PSO/ Protective Security Officer is the title we're designated by DHS-FPS and the Company/ employer, but you're right, detain is the primary-- and I mean, under NWDTP screening protocols, it is a search, just in a different context as the persons being screened aren't detained. It's still a step above what general Uniformed Services are and some capabilities (I was also on a reserve ERT for national/ global response deployment at the same time), but wasn't my cup of tea for many reasons. Absolutely, I see all kinds of inconsistencies by region with FPS commanders and the nuances they pick through with operational doctrine, policy, and just generally how they see the Contractors, mess is an understatement lol, they're so understaffed too that during all the riots we had ONE FPS Inspector to cover our entire state, the rest got domestically deployed to the hottest areas like Seattle, and were gone for months. I had great personal rapport with the local LEO departments and the SWAT Teams, solid guys, they respected me because I could hold my own working sites alone with little support. I'm no longer with the Company or the contract, wasn't what I wanted to do (as I said in my pinned comment), the Company wasn't giving me a fair shake at getting back Overseas full time even though I'd been over there several times, so I bailed. You’re actually wrong. FPS officers are uniformed law enforcement agents with all the jurisdiction a sheriff has minus the civil responsibilities as long as the property is on federal grounds. They have their own academy and training that they go through just like a normal police officer would do. But I believe some states grant them as peace officers so they can detain, arrest and/or investigate you outside their jurisdiction.

@DJTheMetalheadMercenary Жыл бұрын
@@Duramaxcho The Federal Protective Service is structured into 3 sections- the Federal Law Enforcement Inspectors/ Officers (and Commanders), their joint office with Homeland Security Investigations, and the Contracted Protective Security Officer sector under the NPPD directives. FPS Officers/ Inspectors have their own Academy, correct, their Officers and the Contractor NWDTP Instructors still attend FLETC though. We on the Contractor side also have our training (generally 3 to 4 weeks) and certification requirements as put out by DHS and hosted/ supported by our Companies, we have to take a test for certification as a Representative Federal Law Enforcement Official before we can even get our PIV Cards Issued and hold a position on the contract. Jurisdiction-wise, for the Federal Inspectors/ Officers it does vary based on region/ state-posted location, but normally they can't do stuff like standard Traffic Stops unless on Federal Property, otherwise on Federal Property they can absolutely detain/ arrest though through discretion they choose to work with local LE and US Marshals where applicable. Obviously, if they're out and about and intervene on a serious crime, their position and powers as a FLEO apply (like stopping a shooter as an example that has happened in the past). Contractor PSO's again have ability based on location, they can detain and in states like mine can arrest under license with state law coinciding with citizen's arrest and special arrest circumstance laws, it's not like that everywhere, each state has those additional regulations and stipulations based on their licensing.
