In the bunks on the out walls you should print some small posters of women and such to put on them for more detail. Great build. I have all my tiles drying now thanks to you.

Interesting idea with the bunk beds! I'm making use of these tiles for a post apocalypse rpg, rather than strictly 40k so I'm actually cutting a load of my square tiles in half to let people see over them. The box frames I made into shop display windows with magnetic replacable signs to go at the top.

Fantastic video's, will definitely have top look into doing a set of these. Some of the old can tanks would look good, you could at minimum use them to put in voids where there isn't open floor in that configuration or as cover/objectives in the larger rooms. Also greenstuff world do a good resin control panel mould that would be cool, you could perhaps set a magnet in the back of them so they fix on the walls or floor?

Any odd sized drink can, makes a good one (avoid coke can size as its so obvious) I like a mix of Monster, tiny coke cans, mixer cans and any other odd ones. Add some drinking straws and kids plastic tube toy and you've got a great 2 level engine room.

The LEGO panel detailing is such a brilliant idea! They look so good you could probably cast them in resin to speed up the build process. You could even sell them, I bet, but you may want to lawyer up first in case LEGO's legal department come knocking lol. The bunks are also such a brilliant idea, especially the way you built them around the play pieces. Looks superbly naval-y. EDIT: Awww, I made it to the credits? Didn't expect that. Very happy that you felt like I had something helpful to say. :)

@@maddokminis Nah man, I didn't feel like there was any waffling going on here. :) Pretty much like I said last time, you strike a great balance: straight to the point, but not so information dense that I have to pause every 10 seconds to catch up. :) I've been looking around for similar tiles, but so far I haven't found exactly what I've been hoping for. My kids have some, I think they are Magformers. The clever bit about them is that the magnets inside are rod shaped, which means they will automatically rotate to match up with whatever other tile you're connecting them to. But the tile is hollow, so I would have to fill out the gap or cover it with a sheet of card or similar. That seems like a lot of work. Conversely, your tiles are solid, but the magnets look like they cannot rotate. Have you had any issues with magnet polarity not matching up and resulting difficulties with proper bonds between tiles? EDIT: Oh, by the way: you gave me the idea of using these tiles to make other types of terrain. I think it would work super well with caves or dungeons, but even open terrain and cityscapes could be built on these tiles. I think it would work wonders in small scales like 6mm or even 2mm. Hills could be created by building slopes that lined up with the height of 2-3 stacked tiles. I imagine it would be similar to hexterraintoolkit or GHQ Terrain Maker, but potentially at much lower cost.
@maddokminis
@maddokminis Жыл бұрын
@@ItsDrMcQuack Thanks mate - yes I occasionally come across some polarity problems but only when I’m trying to do something a bit “off piste” with them - you know what I mean - something they aren’t really designed for. For instance sometimes attaching the modular room furnishings to the walls (bunks and weapon racks). There are so many more possibilities for this stuff - as you say dungeons, buildings, castles, hills, the list goes on! Thanks for the continued support brother 👍
@ItsDrMcQuack
@ItsDrMcQuack Жыл бұрын
@@maddokminis Yes, this is exactly the kind of situation I was thinking of. That doesn't happen at all with the rod shaped magnets, as long as you add the tiles one at a time so the magnets are free to rotate. Do you feel like it puts significant limitations on what you can and cannot build with your type of tile?
@maddokminis
@maddokminis Жыл бұрын
@@ItsDrMcQuack no not really, I mean the furnishings are capable of free standing anyway and the stitching mesh, once painted, is reasonably grippy so can’t say it’s a massive issue TBH - rotating mags would definitely solve it though! 😁

Awesome mate, I hope your spacehulk turns out great! I wish my set came with the window tiles. Filling those with pipes and cables looks fantastic, and you can still use them as floor when needed. Something I've started experimenting with is spectral highlights, basically giving different finishes so the light reflects differently and gives flat surfaces some variation, you see it particularly on star trek ships. Hit the whole thing with matte spray, add some square pieces of tape, satin, more tape, gloss, peel everything off and it look like different panels of metal aging differently. I wonder if wash will settle different each finish too. Might be too fiddly for this type of terrain but this is a project I've been enthralled by.
