Part 2. DIY Silicone cast BJD Ball Jointed Doll mould

Күн бұрынVaseline and White Spirits (ethanol) mixed together to use as a release agent so the silicone mold do not stick together. I usually do three coats to be sure.
Mix Silicone as previously mentioned in Part 1 so not to waste any silicone.
Let the silicone set to recommended timeframe of the silicone you are using.
Once set, break apart the mould. Voila.
You now have a silicon mold to pour your resin piece.

Were the original pieces printed with a resin printer? How did you keep the silicone for not setting?

Hi there, no the original are all hand sculpted with air dried clay. And the silicone sets after 30 mins.

@@tinkey2562 to make porcelain molds you need to make them out of plaster. I pour my dolls in porcelain too

For some reason I just can’t wrap my head around these kinds of molds. Trying to picture the finished product, I don’t understand how they will be hollow. Are they solid, or are these two halves of one limb that will later be glued together? 😅

Hi AB, BJD silicone molds are in 2 parts which gives you a hollow head which are held together with magnets. I hope this helps 🖐

I was wondering the same thing. I think the limbs are solid, but the head is made in two pieces. If you want your limbs to be hollow, you may have to cast the left and right side and then assemble them.

Yes the limbs are solid and then drilled out for the elastic. The head is molded hollow.

Also, the legs need to be casted in one piece as you cannot stick them together after they are poured in resin.
