I played back the scene where you and Quest enter the portal into A3 (at 0.25 speed). From what it looks like, Quest stopped just before getting on the ramp, and kind of side stepped to his left a bit, which means he stayed to the left side of the ramp, whilst with you , since you were coming from the right of the ramp, you took more of a logical line, and got on it on the right side. it looks like the land mine was in the bush on the right side just before the ramp starts, and then.... Unlucky. Glad (in the end) it didn't cost you a trip to Lantia at least.
