Keep riding that e-mtb everyday buddy! After a bad work accident I was sedentary for a couple years and gained almost a hundred lbs and wasn't able to ride. Rode everyday I could once I was able to and now I'm almost back to my normal weight (got about 20lbs to go). You'll get that confidence the more ya ride. Nice job BOBO this is the good stuff.

@@BIKINGWITHBOBO I think it is a really good idea for people to occasionally tutor new riders; it reminds us of the basics and helps us with empathy for the noobs at our local trails. Also, if you're a trail builder I think it should basically be mandatory to escort actual beginners down their "beginner" trails; it is something I am working on with some of the builders (including me) in this area of NC when I can.

Way to go, man! So psyched that BOBO got you out there and you got through the adversity! That said, one COULD argue that the best way to start mountain biking is to stay off the dirt for the first few rides. Or 10 rides. Maybe 20. Take the time to learn the bike, its dimensions, your dynamics on it, the brakes, the handling, all of that stuff. Do it on grippy surface and not on loose, steep and/or rocky, rooted and/or technically challenging terrain. Take the time to get comfortable on the bike before venturing off road. Then when you do hit the trails, you've gotten past all the "Well, hello there bike!" stuff and can then concentrate on the ONE new parameter you've introduced: the terrain. PS Notice Drew's position "pre-impact?" One pedal down, so he wasn't balanced & centered on the bike, and therefore could not shift his weight back properly while applying the front brake (which he probably erroneously applied too much anyway). Either way, being in "ready position" with level pedals would and could have prevented that OTB.

It was NOT the rock that caught his wheel. He has the bar death-grip going on, where you just squeeze all your fingers to hold on. Look at 1:19, you should move his brake lever way in for him so he can 1-finger brake. He saw the berm coming up, wanted to hold on tighter, ended up squeezing the brake lever too. Look at his right hand, all the fingers on the brake. When he falls, you can see that his rear wheel also locked up. Again the death-grip. You gotta move those levers inwards for him so he only uses his pointer finger and then also screw a bit on the lever so it sits further out and he won't squeeze it onto his fingers!

Pretty dang AWESOME!! I'm an aging Clydesdale. I've bounced around the mid to upper 200s for several years and found myself riding less and less over the past few years. Something had to change so...I bought an eBike!! It's also AWESOME! I'm riding more often, riding further and faster than I have in years. I'm not into exercise, but I love cycling. I am getting a ton of both because of the eBike. I use low assist when I feel like building up my legs. I use medium assist when I want to feel 10 years/25 lbs lighter. Using the high assist makes me feel like I'm 20 yrs and 50 lbs lighter...without killing my legs! Also... I no longer have "range anxiety" holding me back. My legs...they could only push my weight so far!! lol

By any chance is Drew a motos rider. If so that would explain the front wheel lock-up and over the bars. Motos have their front brakes on the RHS of the bar and the rear foot brake on the right. So if Drew was a moto rider he would indistinctively avoid the right leaver and since there is no foot brake he'd pull hard on the left leaver and over the bars you go or a front wheel wash out. Fortunately where I am the front bicycles brake lever is the same as motos RHS. I know if I ever ride in Europe I'll make sure I swap them to configuration and swap them back for the next rider. `

You don’t realize how hard riding a bike actually is until you try to teach someone. There’s hundreds of little things that you have to learn to just ride safely on a gravel path.
