Beginner: Wait, It's all masks and easing? Pro: Always has been. Thanks so much for these tutorials, you make the info very easy to grasp. Especially love the bits where you show what you'd assume the next step would be then show a good workaround to get the desired result. I honestly feel silly not having realized figma was capable of such slick motion haha.

12:19 I was thinking that while watching your video and I'm glad I got it right. Btw, your video is very thorough and not over-professional. I love how you actually show the process of making it without cutting the mistakes or anything. This will helps us a lot more and know how to fix problems when it occurs. This is simple but much preferable to the professional video that always shows no mistakes just the perfect step to reach the perfect result.

Thank you for this video tutorial, tried following along so far and am able to execute it! The instructions are clear as I have encountered videos/'fast' tutorials that seem to skip some steps in between, so that leaves newbies confused halfway, unable to reach the end result.

Great tutorial, and kudos to be honest about the mistake you made as it's a very easy mistake to make and it's great to see how to recover from it. Figma can be a great tool but it's also sometimes very rigid and if you are not following exactly the strict rules of Figma things can get messy very quick especially with smart animate.

Hey Carola, I think need not be apologetic in accepting that you made a mistake, this is in fact this is good learning for us as well. the choice of the shape for the mask really matters. I think in Smart animate, one needs to keep the end states in mind and make the choices of the shapes. Great learning keep sharing these videos.

Thx Carola for the tuto really helpful and simple Also little oopsie she did Check this timestamp first 12:07 she says to use a square then make its radius 100% to make it an elipse, do this first (at the start) else you'll have to do some rework.

Fantastic tutorials, Carola! One quick question, a long time after you posted this: using your masking trick w/ an opacity shift from one frame to the next doesn't seem to work on frames that have Autolayout. Of course, I could be going about it wrong, but am wondering if you've run into this problem and-if I'm right about it being problematic-if there's a workaround?

@emilcupic
@emilcupic 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm wondering if you can control the auto animate features separately on a different timeline. Sometimes you just don't want each animation starting at the same time.. Is there any sort of workaround to achieve this?
@carolapc

Unfortunately the only workaround is to split things up in more screens and add auto-transitions with small delays... not fun

I've been trying to follow this tutorial for a couple of hours now and don't get the same shape for my images despite using rectangles with a corner radius of 100 as you suggested midway through the video, and even after creating the masks over the text for the third slide, my prototype does not bring up the job title. I've tried to reduce the size of the text box so that it is hidden on the previous frame but this hasn't worked either.

Do these Smart Animations have hover and click interactions or is this more like a movie/gif? Does it work exactly the same when you export as an html website? Have you tried uploading it to Webflow or something similar to see if it animates the same?

For some reason when I do the 3rd frame and then prototype, the first screen is all white instead of the image with the lady and leaf with orange background. what could be the issue?

thank you for your video. But when I try to mask the text to reveal from side it works, but when I try to group the rectangle mask and text together, it won't appear as a sideshow; it works as fade and popup in palace, how can I group the masked text with shape and keep side reveal like what you did with "patritia Johanson" name in 7:14 .
