Please donate things you would otherwise bring to the thrift store. Every audio/computer/ maritime/hifi/ radio lover should be helping this unique museum
Rotterdams Radio Museum: www.rotterdamsradiomuseum.nl/
check the website for opening hours and opening days because the museum isn't open the whole year.
The mission of the Rotterdam Radio Museum
The objective of the Rotterdam Radio Museum Foundation is to exhibit and maintain a unique collection of historical objects
radio, television, reception, communication, electronic recording and computer equipment.
Our volunteers not only take care of the presentations and demonstrations, but they also take care of the restoration, registration and documentation of the collection. New products are offered to us every week, after which they are expertly assessed and added to our collection after approval.
The Rotterdam Radio Museum foundation was founded in November 1998 by the former director of Correct, the late Mr. Harry de Jong Sr. (son of the founder of Correct and an enthusiastic technician and sailor). Together with colleague Peter Ivens (former director of Grundig Nederland) and Henk Heessels (former director of JVC Nederland) he formed the board of the Rotterdam Radio Museum Foundation until February 2014. Our volunteers from the Rotterdam Radio Museum are busy maintaining and presenting the collections almost every day and they have been working hard in recent months, because after years of being housed in the historic building, a former storage shed of the Dutch Railways, the collection of approx. 2000 radios, televisions and related electronic products can now be viewed in a new location above the Correct store at Ceintuurbaan 111 (2nd floor) in Rotterdam.
The collections of the Rotterdam Radio Museum.
Radio and sound carriers
The collection of radios covers a period of more than a century. The oldest copies were produced around 1900 in the early days of radio reception. In addition to the collection, the Rotterdam Radio Museum also shows fascinating and educational films with the theme: “Electronics development from 1880”. We are happy to make a special appointment for a visit from primary school students to plan a visit.
Television and Video
In this part of the museum you will find the only Dutch Television and Video
Museum with a wonderful overview of television and video history. Nostalgic products from the Nipkow disc, the first televisions in the Netherlands, all video recorder systems and the first consumer and professional video cameras are clearly arranged.
Computers and Telecom
Here you will find the collection of old computers and calculators that have been collected over the years. To illustrate the history of the Personal Computer, in this part of the museum you will find an interesting presentation with working models of: the Apple, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Commodore, IBM, Philips, Tulip, etc. There are also continuously active computer games and programs from the early years of the pc.
Maritiem en Zendertechniek
For lovers of Maritime Electronics, this part of the museum offers a limited range of maritime-related electronic equipment to admire. Including professional radio transmitters and receivers, VHF radios, radar systems, rescue and navigation equipment and radio amateur transceivers. In this department you will also find a real "radio shack" of a radio amateur who is operational every weekend.
HiFi and High-End Stereo
This area of the museum shows you a collection of Hi-Fi stereo systems and High-End equipment from the absolute top audio brands, including Quad and B&O etc. Besides some professional gramophone turntables, you can also admire an extensive collection of: AKAI, Sony, TEAC and Revox tape and cassette recorders.
Schools, Groups and Companies
Children from Group: 5 of the Primary School are welcome (free of charge) for a special history lesson outside the school! They are welcomed by our employees and they receive a short presentation about the origin of radio, television, the concept of electronics and computers.
In between the tour, the students are called forward to do small experiments. The students also receive a questionnaire in which all the answers to their search can easily be found in the museum.
For secondary school students and other interested parties, such as senior groups or teams from the business community, we offer an adapted program that we can fully tailor to your wishes.
Outside the museum's regular opening hours, we also provide special presentations, unique events and special guided tours in our museum.
Our standard opening hours are:
Thursday to Sunday 13:00 - 16:00
Thank you all donors and hard working volunteers for your enormous effort for keeping this unique museum running.

I saw many things I used to own. What I saw that was really special was the Akai X-1800SD. A 7" reel to reel with a built-in monitor amp, speakers and 8 track recorder. Housed in real walnut.

Great video, yes, you spotted the famous Philips CD100 it was not the first CD player on the market, if I remember correctly the Sony CDP-101 was a little bit more early. We all know that Philips went to Japan with a working prototype and then joint with Sony to complete it. They shared some technology, I think Sony did a lot of electronics. There is a nice Program of andere tijden over how the CD was invented, a must see. No Philips momentional feedback speakers? They must be great too but I never heard them, maybe a good idea for a review. You could make a whole museum just on Philips equipment.
