🔴We have several visits from Orca (Killer Whales). Some very close indeed.
ERRV (Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel) is a support vessel for Oil & Gas Platforms.
They stay at sea for a month at a time (2 months during COVID-19) in all kinds of weather.
Here we see 12-15 meter seas. The maximum recorded seas in this part of the world are over twice this size.
These links will take you to videos showing such waves

Great video that’s taken me back more years than I want to admit. The boat work and the shots of the bowman tying off ready for hoisting. I was an Ordinary Seaman on the last in service Trinity House steam tender. My duties included boats bowman and middleman. The boat was 20 feet wooden clinker built with a hoisting hook at both ends, positively archaic compared to what you guys have. I wish I could have my time again and get my hands on some of those modern toys. Thankyou for sharing this. Made my day 👍

@@Bigwavemaster1 Hi, I don't know if this would help, but I film flights I'm on, sometimes 15 hours worth, using a GoPro attached by suction to the window. They can be powered continuously through a USB cable to any power output (I generally use a truly huge powerbank) and I can get almost 12 hours at 1080p/50fps on a 200gb SD card. A GoPro Hero 4, 5 or 6 would be very cheap to invest in at this stage, and they still work just fine. They're less stable when you use the phone app with them; standalone with no wifi is best I find. Happy to discuss if you'd like, or to show you my setup. I reckon we'd be love hours of footage shot though the window of the bridge rather than somewhere down on the bow (for a minute before the camera was swept away).
@Bigwavemaster1

Jablička This is something I have done before but through a porthole on the lower decks. The weather wasn’t that bad at the time so the video was not that successful. Thanks though, it’s time I treated myself to a new GoPro so may give it another go on the bridge this winter. What GoPro would you say is best for picture quality? ⚓️4 HOURS OF REAL SOUND - AND VIEW THROUGH THE PORTHOLE kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMp-nsWbp6m2fpc.html
@Jablicek
@Jablicek 4 жыл бұрын
@@Bigwavemaster1 It's the reliability that's the thing, which is why I mentioned not attaching them to wifi or your phone through the app. I use the Hero 4 and 5, and they're fine. It's the SD cards that are the thing - if they can't write fast enough then the recording fails. I use the Sandisk red & grey, 128GB (around 7 hours, 1080p 48/50fps), Sandisk 200GB red & grey (around 10 hours), and the Samsung Evo Plus 256GB for something like 13 hours. There are some monstrously huge SD cards on the market, but it's pointless having the really big ones unless you're doing some truly epic quality footage - 4k 60fps, and honestly, nobody can tell if it's 4k or not so I say why bother. Speaking with others who record, there were problems with the Hero 7 White for some reason - you wouldn't think the colour made any difference. The only trouble I have is when the sun's on the camera for an extended time, they overheat something terrible, to the point where they're very hot to the touch, but you can overcome that by using a white outer casing, usualy a silicone jobby you manhandle over it, they're a bastard to put on! Fairly cheap from Amazon. If the GoPro you currently have is stable and works, and you have a way of getting continuous power to it, there should be no need to buy a new one. I hate spending money where I don't need to, personally! Are there any problems with recording from the bridge for long periods? Aside from having to listen to it while editing so nothing sensitive goes out.

@@AgentRafa LOL LOL LOL LOL ... That's a very kind invitation, but I tried blue meanies and gold tops in my youth when I was at University, and they're ... not my 'cup of tea', LOL. I probably destroyed a few million brain cells in the process, he he! Their muso IS really good, though, don't you think? Makes me wonder why he's on a boat instead of in a recording studio? I'm a highly qualified music teacher and I think I know talent when I hear it. A lot of studios would hire him in an instant, as they're always looking for talented backing musos. It's worth a shot, and sometimes shy people need a push to believe in themselves. I hope you enjoy your next cuppa, LOL.
@AgentRafa
@AgentRafa 4 жыл бұрын
@@j.whiteoak6408 Maybe you were too young back then? I can assure you; psilocybin doesn't kill brain cells, alcohol does. In fact it's quite the opposite, psilocybin can open up "new" parts of your brain you didn't even know existed and broadens your horizon. I wouldn't recommend it to young people in a "party mood" because it's not a "party drug". It's "spiritual medicine" and should never be used /wasted in a party context together with alcohol. Yes the guitar playing seaman is really really good, I'd like to hear him play more. Maybe if the captain reads this he'll feature him playing more often? That would be a great addition to his channel. Waves accompanied by some cool guitar playing how about that? Who's your favorite guitar player?

I think things are easier in the U.K. because we are all just fed up with it all and generally ignoring restrictions if we think we can get away with it. @@janapaslay4008 I don't know about Orca, but there's thousands of humpbacks that come into our Bay every year to play, feed their babies up and teach them to deep-dive before they head South to Antarctica, and are always very interested in the whale-watching boats - and in the people who are on them. I've seen them look me straight in the eye - and it's just amazing! They know they have a captivated audience and begin to show off for us, diving down and then fully breaching and splashing water over everyone. I go out every year to watch them, and although there's laws as to how close the boats can get to the whales, once the boat stops the whales always come right up to it, diving under and around the boat. Sometimes there are up to a dozen whales in one pod,all surrounding the boat and vying for our attention : ) It's even more INCREDIBLE to go below to the underwater viewing rooms and watch them through the glass ... it's such a beautiful and humanising experience. I can't believe that they were once hunted almost into extinction.

The weather I was in when I made my very first Month at Sea on an ERRV video in January 2014. Back then I was only doing one second a day and didn’t really capture it. Had 2 smashed bridge windows.
