Part 4! 1946 CJ-2a Willys Jeep! Ian Roussel Repositions The Engine. Will The Hood Have To Be Cut? 🤔
Thank You to Summit Racing For The Generous Parts! Check them out and their full catalog of Jeep Parts!
www.summitracing.com
Also be sure to check out www.bigwillyjeep.com/
Our friend Ian is hooking us up with custom seat cushions and a bikini top!
After much researching and deliberating, we think we've got it! Ian restructured and fabbed the motor mounts so that the engine sits in the frame properly so there is no cutting of the original CJ-2a body. The struggle has been real this week at Roussel Ranch. In-between our roof blowing off multiple times and our sweet Lil undergoing major surgery on her hind leg, Ian and Jamie are still pushing through to get this CJ-2a road worthy in time for Spring in The Desert.
The Backstory of Jamie's Jeep....
Jamie has wished and WISHED for a Willy's Jeep for her Christmas and Birthday present 🎁 . Ian has had a beautiful Willys 1946 CJ-2a Jeep in the back sitting on a Willys M38A1 Chassis for the past few years. Ever since Ian and Jamie were married, Jamie has been eyeing it for a build on Full Custom Garage, sadly the project didn't make it to the show, but now she gets her wish! Jamie is learning about the history of these jeeps and is learning a little wrenching from Ian. The desert is a great place to go "jeepin" and Jamie wants to be part of the club in the warmer months and feel the wind in her hair as she drives to the local market. Jamie is down to get her hands dirty in the garage on this one! We appreciate our amazing support system in the desert with helping us procure the parts needed for this fun build!

Happy Weekend Everyone! Jamie's Jeep is coming along! We are happy to share this progress! Things have been CRAZY at Roussel Ranch this week, but we are getting back into our flow. Lil is doing well! She made it through surgery and we are just waiting on the biopsy, our temp roof stayed put through the crazy wind storm this weekend! So all in all, Life is good! Ian also scored that sweet Zephyr this past week too (check out the vid if you haven't yet) . EYEMUFF'S UPDATE! We will have them in the next few weeks so stay tuned! Thank you for supporting our channel! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, COMMENT and SHARE. We will have more creative content this week for you! ~ Ian and Jamie Roussel

I second the cosmoline as the coating on the plate. Nothing that some gasoline and serious scrubbing will not remove. Jeep is going to be killer (in a good way) when you are done. Love the snorkel part from the VW for the carb.

I am not a jeep guy and I don’t know anything about them. However, my daughter and son-in-law are. But of course, my son-in-law is also a mechanic but not a fabricator like Ian. I am glad though you are a good listener absorbed all the excellent comments from your viewers. Like I said in the past, you’re amazing on what you do. It’s just really nice that you have Jamie by your side and supports you 1000%. Take care and always be safe. Retired from Pahrump Nevada.

It was used from the 30s on for sure and the military had a deal where they coated the whole engine for landing craft invasions but it had to be cleaned off soon or the engine would over heat Rifles were shipped that way abd had to be field striped before issue.

My dad was a devout Chevy guy. He was also a motor pool sergeant in the ‘60’s-‘70’s. It was such a revelation to him to find out that the old jeeps (and military trailers) had offsets built in, that he told me (a preteen kid at the time). He was actually more involved at that time with strapping suspensions down and installing all the (unauthorized) armor on jeeps he could.

Jamie, I gotta say how much I am enjoying watching YOUR work! The editing and camera cuts AND Audio is FAB! Can I make a suggestion that 'may' save your lens though? You could see about getting a piece of sacrificial glass and attaching it to the outside front of the lens to take the spark damage from Hubby's grinding. There was at least one spark actually hit the lens in your vid and that is going to be a permanent mark. At some point Jamie, I would LIVE to see a vid of YOU doing a complete breakdown of your equipment and how you are using all of it too. These vids are all SO smooth compared to the beginning. None of this would be working if you were not so skilled at getting this done! Learning curves are HARD! Look how far you have come in the last while! Well DONE!

@fullcustomIan. If you are upgrading the steering to a Saginaw design, another safety upgrade would be the brake system. I just finished up doing my ‘58 CJ5 Willys with dual master cylinder, 11” rear and Brennnan’s Garage conversion disc brake for front. 11” brake upgrade is very common, just need to source the backing plates. Disc conversion is just as common with lots of options that would bolt on. Enjoy!

You may look into putting rack and pinion off a pinto on there, did my 48 cj2 with a tilt wheel and it works really good, you do get a little tire scrub when hitting a big bump on a hot day but it has lasted 40 years.

The body will sit higher once you add in the rubber body mounts, if I remember correctly they are about 1/2 to one inch thick and hard like a hockey puck... Still going to be close when it comes to space for the air cleaner... That Holley carb will be much easier to dial in than the old Jeep one would have been, they could be tempermental in the hot weather as they aged... Do you have an alternator kit for it? The 6 volt system worked really well, but times have changed and an alternator and 12 volt is much better for modern batteries especially in the desert heat and dryness (and sudden torrential rains)... The stuff on that transmission plate is a mixture of wax and oil, it should scrape off with a razor blade and clean up with gasoline, at least that was the way it was done when I was in the Army...
