I mention in the video that the keyboard cable wasn't long enough - this should only be a problem if you're fitting some c64c keyboards to mainboards with the connector in the top left of the mainboard. Some c64c's had very short keyboard cables. Your mileage may vary!

I mention in the video that the keyboard cable wasn't long enough for this board - this should only be a problem if you're fitting some c64c keyboards to mainboards with the connector in the top left. Some c64c's had short keyboard cables. Your mileage may vary!

Makes 1984 not seem so far away!! C64 was my first computer, Atari 2600/7800 not withstanding!! Mom bought the whole setup from Sears, including 2 - 1541 disk drives and a stand alone color monitor (the monitor lasted me into the Sega Genesis/Nintendo/PS1 era of gaming)… the great old days!! Thanks for letting me relive and remember those glory days with your channel!! Such a great place!!

Individual Computer, also Germany, produces C64C cases from original Commodore moulds, also in clear. There is also the Mechboard 64, a quite expensive new keyboard. There were several projects to reproduce the keycaps, but currently none seems to be active.

Very interesting watch, certainly I would find myself spending many hours building a unit, how much I would end up using it afterwards is debatable but wouldn't be for lack of wanting

Well sure. I know what you are thinking. My SixtyClone is in its box, and I rarely use it. But then it will last longer. I only have to power it on two times a year. But it is awesomme to me, because I build it.

I'm making a replacement 6526 and 6510. Both use a STM32 (like the ARMSID). The 6510 uses the 6502 T state emulator I wrote and used for Pi1541. The replacement 6510 PCB has a SD card that can contain ROMs so the ROMs on the 64's motherboard can remain unpopulated. The 6526 project has a version where it can replace both for the 64 motherboard revisions that have them side by side. I will let you know when I am ready for public testing. #buildac64

Love your channel !! .... first computer I ever saw was a ZX81 .... my first computers were Casio PB-100, Atari 400, Comodore 64, Casio PB-1000, Sinclair Ql ..... they good old days

You could de-pin the keyboard connector, then solder new wires in whilst replacing the original connector pins

For anyone following along, 901227-03 is the latest kernal. The 901227-02 file pointed to @5:59 has severe colour bugs within the kernal screen editor. You will see @6:10 that our host is actually using the preferred 901227-03 kernal file.

I like keeping things "Stock" (I drive a MX1 MX5 with it's original tape player) but I like that case a lot!

A small notice. I don't know, but those pin headers have two different sides. One side is thicker and the other side is thinner and longer. I always thought, the thicker side should be soldered so that the long-thin side goes down into the other sockets. That way, they even fit precision/round sockets without stretching them and they go all the way in. But, I may be misinformed.

I think ideally make sure the KB extension is black and can be neatly kept at the side with the two meeting underneath/hidden beneath the KB. #BUILDAC64

I currently have a BMC64 Pi based C64 & recently got a Breadbin C64 that was a loft find. The breadbin one was up the loft uncovered for over 30+ years according to the seller & has a massive coating of soot & grime all over it, so much in fact that 75% of the keys you can't see the writing on them lol. That's my project this bank holiday to strip it & give the keys & case a good soak, oh & I did fire it up & all works perfectly. I have built a new Sinclair Spectrum & a new C64 is next on the list to build, after that an A500 new build is on the cards (thought I would work my way up from smallest to largest). #BUILDAC64

You could always put it in one of those hermetically sealed see through cases they use in maternity ward for premature babies and use it. You know those cases that have the holes with the gloves attached to them that you can us for your hands? Outside of that, I really can't think of any anti-static solutions (unless Gorilla Glass has anti-static properties)

I love the form factor of those early home computers. Why there isn't somebody making a low powered PC to fit that style of case is a mystery to me. Sure the PSU would probably have to be external and yes it would probably be best suited to Ryzen integrated graphics but what the hell. It would look awesome. Probably the hardest part would be finding a cooler slim enough to fit. Noctua make the NH-L9i which has a height of just 37mm.

I have a case like this in clear acrylic for my build, had the same idea of not wanting to hide the pcb. Not finished yet though, but have bought som NOS MOS and new parts were possible. (Really hope I haven’t done any wrong connections since I am a noob in troubleshooting electronics)

I was sceptical about a plexiglass case for a C64, but I have to admit it looks quite fancy (other than the dust-magnet problem for sure ....). #buildac64

I’ve only just come across this channel as I’m used to watching Perifractics C64 builds. I never had a C64 as I went from Dragon 32 to BBC B, but that looks so cool 😎.

#buildac64 - Looks good, I am sure that there are "anti-static sprays" available to help reduce the dust attraction to your machine. I imagine a transparent SX-64 would be quite an attractive beast as well

I loved my C64, it was my first computer. My mum and I used to spend hours typing in programs from magazines, it was great fun. Being in the UK I had a tape deck and I got the matching printer which got so much use. #BUILDAC64

That's the only thing with perspex sheets. Static! Apparently, you can spray water onto the protective sheet before you peel it off or even put the board in an oven at about 60 Celcius for 4 hours. Or go for the option of anti-static spray. Either, or. #BUILDAC64

I'm not convinced with the result, but I like that options like this exist and I totally get why you'd want to show off your work. Can you route the keyboard cable underneath or something to make it cleaner?

Looks great and Like your channel. I acquired a bunch of retro computers for $75.00 about 4 years ago and finally unboxed just a couple of months ago to see what was inside. They were found in an attic from a house that was cleaned and ready for sale. Supposably the previous owner of the house (who had passed away) actually worked for Commodore. Ended up with qty of 3 C64's, qty of 2 TI99's, about 75 cassettes, stacks of floppy's, a few disk drives, cassette drive, about 4 dozen cartridges, misc. wires and adapters. Hoping to get started soon and find out what works and what can be repaired and restored. Maybe I should do a video while inventorying. #buildac64

The C-64 was and still is my "holy grail" retro system. Back in the day I had a friend with one and I was always amazed at the cool things he could do with it, the great graphics and amazing sound that I couldn't do with my Apple II. I am so glad that so many modern solutions exist that help make using and maintaining these retro systems so much easier, and am thankful to all of the creators that make these things possible. #BuildAC64

A keyboard extension cable is something I can’t imagine isn’t more used given the number of C64s out there. Wonder if someone hasn’t a pre-made one. Maybe weave some Electroluminescence wires in to get some attention in. Very cool build. #BUILDAC64

I guess there is a way to use only one EPROM for all 3 ROMs by combining all 3 on different EPROM locations and wiring 2 wires from CS lines to EPROM's address lines.

Never had a C64 growing up. My first computer was a Tandy Radio Shack Color Computer (TRS-80 CC). I also had a Cambridge Z88 portable computer. My high school had a PDP-11 system that I learned BASIC, COBOL, and Pascal on. #BUILDAC64

I did some quick research and it may be possible to use a 65c22 for the 6526 with an adapter.The 65C22s are still being made. More investigation is needed. #buildac64

I got one of the crystal clear cases for the A500++ I built two years ago just recently. It's a beautiful case and will show off the awesome purple motherboard of the A500++. I loved the case you chose for your #BUILDAC64, and I'd love to try building a64 my self.

The black boards look great. The thought of building a computer from a PCB was what got me into electronics and retro computing in early 2020. After a detour into the Ben Eater 6502 and Acorn & BBC repairs I’m now looking at learning more about C64 #buildac64

Looks like the double pin header is installed incorrectly on the pcb. The thick end passes through from below to be soldered on top. The longer thin ends plug into the dial socket, that's why they are longer.

The colourful stickers on the ROM are a great idea. IMO the crystal with the wire hurts the esthetics a little bit. But otherwise it's one grand C64 build! #buildac64

After TI abandoned the TI99/4A, I got a C64 when I was in high school, but only for a few days. For some reason or another, it didn’t work with our color TV, so I ended up with a CoCo instead. While I liked my CoCo, it didn’t have the sound and color of the C64,and I was taunted every time the C64 commercials with Bach Invention 13 was on my TV every time I watched the A-Team, Knight Rider, Magnum PI, etc. #BUILDAC64

That was a good video. I like your clone. As I mentioned, then I have build my own SixtyClone. These boards are so nice. But I went for a black Model-C case my self, and brown rubber feets. Also a case badge that nobody else seem to use. If you would like to have a look, then it is on my channel.

Basically this is a unique new machine which looks to have the size of an amiga 500 in the way you build it so brand new commodore hybrid! :) Also even if it has one or a few classic chips it is still brand new and amazing especially in this color! 🤩 I would make one like this totally custom and keep one in its absolute original style just to have also the original love aside! :) #BUILDAC64

I've never had a C64, as I came from a Sinclair background and then graduated strait into a PC. Then when nostalgia hit, I've ended up with several Amigas, STs and loads of Sinclair machines, but still no C64. I suppose now is a time as good as any to build one, so here it goes! #buildac64

Well, I actually think the case works even though I did not think so initially. Being able to see the board is just amazing. I was thinking when you get to making a permanent keyboard cable extension it is something that tucks under the motherboard so you end up seeing just the chips. Well done and don’t feel bad if you never go back to the world of Spectrum 😂 #buildac64

I really like that case. Given the c64 is 95% new, there is no reason it has to have a Breadbin or C case. I think there is a modern mechanical keyboard available. Add some repro key caps and that’s another item ticked off the list as new. #buildac64
