We're embarking on the Little Tennessee river on Tellico Lake. In this video, we travel down river to Fort Loudoun Lock and Dam. Locking downbound, we'll take the Tennessee River downstream on Watts Bar Lake then head up the Clinch River to get staged for locking through the Melton Hill Lock in a couple of days. Lots of large thunderstorms threaten, but with luck, we thread our way through the worst of them.
Many thanks to Richard and Carolyn for help with the launch and cast off.

First, thank you for your service. It sounds like you've about covered them all. I've looked at the Black Warrior before, but haven't done any serious planning yet. I was thinking about starting somewhere up on Lost Creek, Locust Fork, or even Mulberry Fork, and then traveling down to at least Demopolis.

Hey Don, let's see...We locked upbound to Melton Hill on the morning of the 11th. Anchored on the toe of the Island at Eagle bend that night. On the 12th, we made way back down to the dam to lock downbound on the morning of the 13th. Locked downbound to Chickamauga on the morning of the 15th, up and down the Hiwassee on the 16th, back up to Watts bar evening of the 17th, and up though Loudon lock late on the 18th. We had to pass somewhere on Melton Hill. I looked on the Fort Loudon Facebook page and saw where you locked through on the 14th. We were a day ahead of you.

Glad you enjoyed it. I considered an AP, but didn't think I would use it most of the time. Pricy too for this little boat. It would have been nice on Kentucky lake, however, where there wasn't much debris in the lake and lots of room (except for the huge tows).

I used to like to do the Hare and Hound runs up in Royal Blue. I need to get back up there on my KLR, just don't know if these old 70+years bones can take much more of that. Got to keep going though, or things lock up.

Our boat is a 2003 Catamaran Cruisers Li'l Hobo. These vessels are manufactured in Columbia, Tennessee. I've heard of a few out in the Southwest, but can't recall of any up your way. There probably are some up there as they have been manufactured for over 30 years. Thanks for the comment.

I'm excited to see the next part, we live up that way. It's interesting to see these landmarks from the waters perspective. What are the rules on camping overnight on TVA water? I poked around on the internet and couldn't find anything about it. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
@justkeepgoing
@justkeepgoing 19 күн бұрын
That's a good question Michael. The only restrictions I know of, officially, are environmental. I think those are listed on the TWRD website. No dumping raw sewage, etc. Of course, common sense will tell you not to anchor in the navigable waterway, or near a dam during high rain or storm events. I think TVA may restrict you to two weeks anchored at one spot, but I think that only applies if the boat is not occupied. That's a pretty area over there.

@justkeepgoing
@justkeepgoing 18 күн бұрын
Hello, James. That's a Yamaha standard issue water/fuel separator. There is another fuel filter in the motor also. It's probably a little redundant in fresh water, but you never know. It's not an expensive insurance policy for the extra protection. Here is a link to the unit on Amazon that I have. It can be found cheaper than this if you shop around. a.co/d/i2gRljL

@justkeepgoing 19 күн бұрын
Thanks, Bob. The Clinch is a nice trip. You might as well run up the Emory while you are there. If going on up to Melton Hill, be sure contact Fort Loudon lock to arrange a week in advance to lock through. Fort Loudon is the only part of the Tennessee River we haven't traveled yet in our houseboat, but we're planning to do that in a few weeks, at least up to the confluence of the Tennessee above Knoxville. I grew up on the banks of Ft Loudon. If you've ever heard of Jones Bend, then that's where my family settled in Tennessee in the late 1700's. Camera's... Well, I use a DJI Osmo Action for a lot of it. I have a Sony a6000 that I use some, and my iPhone 13.

Nice cruise and video, but, at 1:21, I've never seen safety chains that don't lock on. It this leagel in your state?
@justkeepgoing
@justkeepgoing 17 күн бұрын
Yes. According to Tennessee law the only requirement is they have to be crossed and able to support the tongue weight if the hitch fails. My trailer is over 20 yrs old and I do think the newer trailers have a spring loaded clasp on the hook. But it's not required by law, at least not in Tennessee.

That's a nice marina in Florence, we transitioned there on our Tennessee River cruise. Our boat is a 2003 Catamaran Cruisers Li'l Hobo. They are built in Columbia, Tennessee. The remote unit is an Intellisteer Type S F. I sat on the fence a long time before I purchased it, but really glad I did. It made it much more enjoyable to sit on the deck in the breeze and have that view. Thanks for coming along!

Hi Cindi! The book is called Tennessee River Guidebook. by Jerry M. Hay. We used it extensively on our Tennessee river cruise a couple of years ago and it was very helpful. It's starting the get dated now, however. Last publish date was 2018 and I think it's out of print. There may be a later version out there now though, I haven't checked.
