Preliminary reflections on my ongoing project observing the apparent motion of the sun and the effects connected with it according to Johan Wolfgang von Goethe's "gentle empiricism." The project arises out of my participation in the wonderful foundation course offered by The Nature Institute in New York.

I have done some sunrise gazing, i always did it through a sparse tree, winter is best, as a kind of protection. and it was absolutely amazing to witness in the way my eye would respond with colours, the magenta-cyan spectrum would bleed around the sun in a kind of trinitarian halo. I thought it was so marvelous, my eyes were producing colour in response to light and shadow.

@@theseventh7865 Thank you for the kind words, Kate, and for sharing this-I hear you, the sunrise gazing has been my favorite part of this process-feeling the lift of life in the morning and the heavenly play of color is such good mana for the soul. Hope you’re doing well! 💫🙏🏻💞

Love this emphasis on the experiential. It is also the native way of dialling into your home location. Even though there are charts that offer a guide for sun, tides, moons and stars in many cultures and languages. It is always recommend for us to go outside and get our own customised reading for the location we are in. I had a native friend who was particularly sharp when predicting fishing times and locations by simply looking at any body of water in nature. We are all natives to this planet. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve often had a similar thought when reflecting on Goethe’s work-that it has much in common with the place-based wisdom of traditional native cultures. And amen, all natives to planet Earth!
