Today I'm showing you how to make adorable shot bubble bars.
SHOT GLASS RECIPE
250 grams baking soda, 175 grams sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, SLSa (or a different powder surfactant), 75 grams corns starch, + 40 grams fragrance oil, 10 grams polysorbate 80, 20 grams cocamidopropyl betaine (or a different liquid surfactant as a foam stabilizer/booster).
ALTERNATE RECIPE
You may change amounts or even ingredients. I increased baking soda and added corn starch to reduce the cost because powder surfactants are expensive. Use equal amounts of SLSa and baking powder for a very bubbly bubble bar. Or use more SLSa for an even bubblier bar. Use any wet ingredients- just use enough to create a pliable dough.
DIRECTIONS
Sieve dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients separately. Add the wet ingredients slowly while mixing. I recommend an electric mixer. Mix the batch about 5 minutes. Scrape the sides and mix a bit more. Ensure ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. The mixture should feel kind of like a wet/clumpy bath bomb mix.
MOLDING:
Coat mold with corn starch/mica. Add mix to the top. Lightly pack it. Add a bit more mix. Scrape top so it's flat. Place plunger in center and force it down as much as possible. Twist to pull the plunger up/off. Remove bottom. Gently twist sleeve to loosen it, then pull it off. Loosen 2 sides of the shot to release bar. Dry 24 hours. They become harder the longer they dry.
WHIPPED SOAP RECIPE
When using Olay, Caress, or Dove (which is what I recommend), you only need soap and water; everything else is optional. 100 grams distilled water, 100 grams grated soap, 20 grams SLSa- sodium lauryl sulfoacetate [powder surfactant; increases lather/bubbles],10 grams stearic acid [hardener; makes soap firmer], 10 grams fragrance oil, and 2 grams preservative, Germall plus (the bottom part of the soap will be in the glass and wont dry right away - this is where mold likes to grow).
Mix ingredients together (except fragrance/preservative) and heat to dissolve. I find it easiest to microwave it in a glass beaker. Once the soap starts bubbling, mix it. Microwave it again but let it bubble up to the top, then stir it. As it cools, the soap thickens quickly. Cool below 100 degrees Fahrenheit to add fragrance oil and preservative.
Divide soap and add liquid colorant. Add soap to piping bag. Make sure it's cool enough to pipe firm swirls. The soap stays pliable for a while. To package, I recommend a shrink wrap bag that's not heated OR only heated at the bottom to avoid breaking it.
