@lisaschindler88644 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you, best ever remake!
@ambivalentdisaster6734 жыл бұрын
Good but not better. There is underlying pain in Sia’s version, which is necessary for the message. This is almost like the style of Andrew Lloyd Webber. He hits all the right notes and the creativity is a 10. But he doesn’t connect to the content. This song is about a depressed woman that appears to be a party girl, but is just trying to get through each day. She copes with alcohol abuse and self destructive behavior that cause her to repeat the cycle. While this performance was good musically, the message was offset by the clown parody. A sad party clown instead of a sad party girl is too humorous to have the same effect. But still well sung.
@lisaschindler88644 жыл бұрын
@@ambivalentdisaster673 I listened again to both versions. Undoubtedly Puddles voice is more appealing to me. I agree that the clown parody initially gives the wrong impression... until he sang! The audiences reaction says it all. Puddles sang with full heart and soul that captured his underlying pain. His version brought out the emotions in me. It was beyond "well sung", it was amazing!
@ambivalentdisaster6734 жыл бұрын
Lisa Schindler We can respectfully agree to disagree. I think this is one of those songs where someone can sing every note beautifully but never truly connect with it. Two other popular songs like that that come to mind are Hallelujah and Memories.

I've seen some people not understanding the clown disguise. It's hard to describe, but for some people, they gain their confidence from the persona they put on. like Puddles. His real, natural self would most likely be too nervous to ever do this. but become Puddles - someone different - and he has that confidence.

Been some years that I saw this the first time. I keep coming back here again and again. My fav part is around 2:03 when he sings _like a bird through the night._ Things go epic during that moment. The way he holds the mike and moves, the change in the camera angle, the video slowed down. Something really reverberates during that moment. But for that moment to hit you its imp that the preceding parts are also re-watched as the necessary build up.
