Experience the journey of a lifetime as we take you on a thrilling ride aboard the HIGHLANDERS, a Ro-Pax passenger/vehicle ferry operated by Marine Atlantic. Serving the islands of Newfoundland and Cape Breton in Eastern Canada, the MV HIGHLANDERS has a storied history. Originally known as the STENA TRAVELLER, she has seen various waters from the coasts of The Netherlands to the United Kingdom between 2007 and 2009. Named in honor of the Nova Scotian infantry regiments that fought in World Wars I and II, she now proudly sails the Canadian waters.
After being leased by Marine Atlantic, the HIGHLANDERS underwent significant modifications in Bremerhaven, Germany. These changes included the installation of a third bow thruster, an extensive makeover of the passenger areas, and a shortening of the vessel by 12 meters to facilitate docking at Channel-Port aux Basques. She entered regular service in April 2011, soon followed by her nearly identical sister ship, the MV BLUE PUTTEES. In 2015, Marine Atlantic announced the purchase of both ships for a sum of Can$100 million each.
But that's not all! After disembarking from this vessel, set off on an epic journey through the world-famous Cabot Trail. This adventure promises breathtaking vistas and the natural beauty of Eastern Canada at its finest.

Tried this on what was supposed to be an 11:45PM departure. They moved it up to 7:30. So we had to cut our day short in Cape Breton to make it before 5:30. Then at the last minute we had a 45 minute delay. Left at 8:45 PM and arrived at 2:30AM. Because we weren't getting in until early, early morning, we decided to drive all the way to Bonavista instead of sitting around all morning on the SW side and wait for things to open and not get to check into a room for 12 hours. It was dark and raining so heavily and was so windy I had no idea what that area looked like until we returned 8 days later. Really made it harder to enjoy our trip. I hope they get the new ship certified quickly and they clean up their boarding issues...
