CHIEF DID A GREAT JOB BEING IN HIS UNITS

Fist in engine stated they had a large column of smoke visible from a distance but they did not pick up a hydrant with that knowledge and requested second in engine pickup the hydrant. It took a bit to get water on the fire.

You can clearly tell this chief has been around the block a few times . Excellent Job Sir! He coordinated everything flawlessly. A leader like this makes everyone around him better . I am curious about a couple things though . It did take a little time for the chauffeur to get water to that line ? Were they setting up water supply ? I’m personally use to water hitting the knob the second the line is stretched . No big deal , like I said I’m just curious what was going on . Also , it’s hard to hear but I would love to know what that guy on the line said to the chief for him to react that way ? Why did the chief have to tell him they had fire in the attic space ? Judging by the smoke you could see they had fire running that roof line . I’m not sure how old these apartments are but we have 32 apartment complexes in my local with 500-1000 units in each complex and they were built prior to the code of having a fire wall run straight to the roof . These fire walls stop at the ceiling line so it’s open space from one side of the building to the other . We do A LOT of trench cuts I’ll tell you that! Again great job by the chief and also everyone involved . Stay safe out there

What would’ve been the result, had the first due engine listened to The Chief and parked at the rear of the building where the fire was? What would’ve been the result, had the first sue used the deck gun for 30 seconds, while the hand line was stretched? This isn’t a criticism, but a critique. There are lessons to be learned, if we are just willing to accept that fact, lower our pride and become innovative in this business.

Wtf was the issue with getting water on the fire?

Water should be on the fire no later than 60 seconds after the rig stops. Overall good knock, the guy arguing with the chief over smoke or fire in the roof…….that wouldn’t work out too good here. Somebody would get wrote up and visit the chief’s office. If the chief or command says open the roof, there is no question about it, you open up the damn roof open asap !

Why is it that for every fire that there is, each time that someone starts operating a handline, someone else always comes along and starts pointing the finger at everything as though the handline operator was one of the Three stooges. How about that the person isn't blind, leave him the hell alone to do his job.
