Its a good idea to put some tape over the slot in the body work before unscrewing the unit.. it is easy to drop the small black washer under the securing bolt into it! I did it..:(

Which slot do you mean? The hole where the wiring goes through or some other hole or slot?

most important is how to unscrew the light

Are the estate lights the same part number as on the saloon?

@@stephan20008 Thanks for the reply - so the outer tail light from an estate/wagon definitely won't fit on a saloon?

Wouldn't you have been better to fix the clear lens one. As it is probably dry joints on the LEDs an easy fix

If you had a look you'd realise a 35 rear light is a far better alternative

These lights cannot be repaired because the whole light assembly is one hermetically sealed unit. If you tear it open (basically break the housing) there's no good way to rebuild it and you'll end up condensation inside the light. In addition, the lights have poor design where the PCB will crack if temperature changes are too drastic. If you can figure a way to open the housing in a way that can be sealed correctly again, soldering a thin copper wire all around the PCB would make this rear light last forever. Otherwise, keep purchasing spare parts and replace the lights. I definitely like old school light bulbs more than this poorly manufactured but expensive LED crap. A well made LED light would be a clear winner, though.

Not really showed how you unscrewed the light!

What you’re supposed to do is go in through from behind the light and press the tabs then the light will slide out, rather than just yanking and breaking the tabs like you did
