Passengers turned up in large numbers to use the alternative Entebbe-Nakiwogo to Bukakata Masaka Route introduced by government to reduce traffic congestion after the collapse of River Katonga Bridge to ease the movement of goods and service.
These lauded government and ministry of works for the initiative established being flexible and affordable to use.
At exactly 11:00 am, Nakiwogo landing site was full of passengers and cargo waiting for MV NODL on its way from Bukakata to Entebbe
There was traffic jam of both passengers and vehicles at the entrance, an indicator that they have embraced the government initiative of easing transportation to Masaka
By 11:28 am, the long awaited MV NODL seen at a distance sailing on water approaching the mainland with passengers from Bukakata-Masaka as its first route
Upon Docking the passengers shared their experience of the journey being the first route from Masaka connecting to Entebbe using water transport
According to passengers, the decision made by the government has come in time, since it has enabled them to move at a cheaper price.
The operators of MV NODL said, they have put all requirements needed to ensure that they transport passengers and ensuring safety
The alternative Entebbe-Nakiwogo to Bukakata Masaka is a temporary route introduced by the ministry of works and transport as it embarked on restructuring of River Katonga Bridge following its collapse due to torrential rains resulting into flooding
