Hi Seerasan, found your video very encouraging - I've lived in Japan for about three and half years, arrived knowing enough Japanese to hold basic conversations in bars and amuse Japanese folk whilst traveling around. I've been studying kanji for a couple of years now, and would roughly estimate my kanji knowledge is pretty much all the N3 and around half N2. I've bought the grammar, reading and listening comp. books by sou-matome for N3 ... but OMG, there's so much content that I'd never use in daily Japanese conversations. I recently passed the Kanji Kentei level 9 ...woo ... I have the writing skills of an eight year old!!! he he he. My speaking ability totally sucks - or at least my confidence level has plummeted over the last few months ... I think it might be something to do with focusing so much on my literacy skills and trying to force these new grammar structures into my conversations ... I don't know if you found this to be the case on your journey to Japanese bliss, but I'm certainly at a low point at the moment with a growing fear of opening my mouth and speaking Japanese ... the old adage, "better to be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt" comes to mind. I'm kind of resigned to just plugging away at my literacy and listening skills for the moment, while I try and find another Japanese friend who's into photography (I'm really into photography and have been learning all the vocabulary around describing photos, giving instructions to models etc) ... feel that in that situation, I forget about my confidence issues as I just get really into what I'm trying to express. Whenever I read the JLPT textbooks I have, I can see how the language is useful for some pretty general situations ... but it does kind of send me to sleep ... which book did you find least sleep inducing? Anyway, sorry for the hugely long message ... just a million things I'd love to ask. Well done on the JLPT N2 ... and all the best for future adventures in Japanese.

Congratulations on N2 and I also want to pass N2 but I am a beginner who can barely make some basic sentences. Recently I have been focussing too much on vocab and I think I have memorised 1000 words but I can't use them all so I think I need to work on grammer so could you please help me with the study material or methods
@seerasan
@seerasan 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Don't worry, take it easy for now and you'll get there in no time :) I recommend buying grammar focused books from nihongo sou matome for N5 or N4. Since you're still a beginner, try the Genki series - it's an integrated and comprehensive textbook but includes most of the basic and fundamental grammar structures you'll need.

I'm beginner in Japanese language. I've been learning on my own for the past 2 years and doing good. now I moved to Japan and I want to continue to study on my own but my plan is to pass the jlpt n2. should I start with studying for n5 all the way to n2? or start immediately with n2 books? thank you for the video 😊
@seerasan
@seerasan 7 жыл бұрын
I recommend you first do a self-assessment of your own Japanese skills. Once you've determined your current level, then consider studying for the appropriate JLPT course! (You don't need to start at n5!) The official JLPT website has sample questions if you need a reference :) Good luck ^^

I'm going to Japan in Febuary for 6 months to study Japanese there. I'll only be focusing on the language and I'm really stoked about it! My Japanese level is high N4 / low N3. Do you think I'll be able to speak Japanese as well as you after 6 months of intense study with a teacher? (I've only self-studied so my speaking skills are non-existant)
@seerasan
@seerasan 6 жыл бұрын
That's awesome!! If you want to improve your speaking skills really quickly, the best way is to speak Japanese every day (not just studying with a teacher/textbook!!!) Try and make Japanese friends online before going to Japan, and then call them a lot! That's how I improved my speaking skills :D You're already at a reasonable level, so I definitely think it's possible :) 頑張れ!!(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

In the months leading up to the exam, I probably studied 4-5 hours each day on average. My advice is whenever you learn a new grammar structure, try and use it the same day and in your own words! (i.e. make a SIMPLE sentence & use it) If you can use the grammar, then you shouldn't have any problems remembering it for the test! (^^)

Im planning to take the JLPT N5 this year however ive just started my journey, for the moment ive gotten down hiragana,katakana, numbers, some basic greetings ,some vocab however i dont have a textbook yet. Although up research, alot of them are suggesting Genki because it has english translation but genki is expensive and Minna no Nihongo (without translations) . Do you have any other recommendations for textbooks and also N5 study books.

am going to take my Jlpt n3 upcoming July.... hardly three months more for me I am learning Japanese for 10months in India by Japanese trainer. but still there is no good book available here,i have to rely on my sensei. he is giving me lots and lots of homework and it's too tiring. my strength is kanji ,vocabulary and somewhat good at choukai. grammar is the worst part for me..i just hate it cause I don't know how to learn that.... any useful methods to master n3 grammar?

Grammar is important because it ties together the entire language! So I would try & work on making it one of your strong points! Once you've learnt a new grammar structure, try and listen out for it. Watch a Japanese TV show & you'll definitely hear it being used over & over. (especially N3 grammar) If you use crunchyroll or netflix they often provide Japanese subtitles too, so read them & pause to review it - then take a note of it! My advice would be to use the N3 文法パワードリル textbook. It's available on Amazon if you can buy it (link is below) www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B076DD6T7K/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

I just googled 'N3 grammar drills' & came across this website with free practice questions. So give this a try if you can't get access to the textbook above. japanesetest4you.com/category/jlpt-n3/jlpt-n3-grammar-test/
