Good stuff! I gotta try that out, thanks! Btw it would be helpful if one of you wore a white gi to create more contrast. Sometimes some details get lost when both gis are dark, at least with my eyesight. ;)

Thanks for the vid Jon. Really enjoy all the content you put out there. I am having some difficulty with a training partner who does the lasso with the reverse de la riva and looks to spin under. Whats your approach to passing this type of lasso guard?

Thank you for your effort in posting conceptual instructions. Many people and I need this. Also, I have watched all videos in your channel until now, I might have missed something, but what is a good way to counter Toreando pass?
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 жыл бұрын
Bunny Azorth I have actually done a video specifically about defending the toreando. Should be on my pass defense play list. But short answer is good frames keep your knees tight, and work your outside foot into the bicep then try to recenter your hips.

A brown belt at my gym uses the lasso and likes to spider grip the other hand. Tips to deal with that would be great

Do you have a strategy for breaking down double lasso, with one shallow and one deep?
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 жыл бұрын
Donald Menzies I usually just focus on looping out the same, I can cover that sometime soon. I think I’m going to cover a few more toreando variations in next videos then might go to that topic

Hey Jon...love your videos. Can you make a half guard basics or most common mistakes video. That would be awesome

Lasse Petersen Hey are you referring to top or bottom of half Guard? I was thinking about covering some half Guard passing stuff soon.
@lassepetersen6496

@@JonThomasBJJ hey. I was mostly thinking about how you play half guard from bottom, as i often get stuck there, because many of the guys I spar with outweigh me.
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 жыл бұрын
Lasse Petersen hey buddy I really don’t ever play half on bottom I either A escape half back to open guard or B will play Knee Shield or reverse dlr. I can cover some escapes from half or show some stuff from Knee Shield

To piggy-back on Lasse's question, if you could show just *what you do* from bottom half guard to get your game going, that would be great for those of us who don't do shit from bottom HG currently :D

Obviously you're giving your opponent the underhook when you fall into side. How do you address that?

What do you think of dropping into the leg weave?
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 жыл бұрын
Nerales Leg Weave is not my favorite pass. Vs more flexible opponents I find it is very difficult. In my experience rolling with a lot of world class opponents, I never have a hard time defending so I am not a huge fan of it especially in lighter division guys are so mobile it’s tough. My favorite passes are knee cut, toreando, stack pass, folding pass, and also knee smash towards the near side.
