I really appreciate that you're looking at the efficiency aspect, especially in light the recurring trend towards higher power consumption in the high-end parts. I found the 12700K to be reasonably efficient once you manually tune the frequency and vcore (and interestingly, disabling the e-cores improved overall efficiency for my uses) but it didn't take well to offsets whereas with Zen, I can basically just setup a negative offset and leave the boost behavior alone.
@Roman00744
@Roman00744 2 жыл бұрын
I run my 9900k at -0.06 offset at stock core speed but OC the cash to 4.5, it runs cooler and more efficient so it was possible with Intel too.

E cores are just a big joke this generation. The marketed purpose was said to improve performance in the tasks running in the background, so that those tasks don't take any ressources on the big cores but the intended purposes was to increase multi threading performance at the cost of efficiency since those E cores aren't particularly powerful. Really a bummer. At least the 12400 is still a thing and I hope a 8 P cores no E cores variant will release with Rocket Lake.

@mordacain3293 2 жыл бұрын
@@Roman00744 Certainly, I didn't mean to imply it was impossible; at least with my 12700K I don't get meaningful benefit from it and it crashes at anything more than -.02 mV. I get much better results using different profiles in the tuning utility (specifying a frequency and set vcore) whereas for Ryzen I can simply specify the offset from bios and it is really just a matter of finding the point of diminishing returns which for all of the Zen3 chips I've tried is between -.042 mV and -.056 mV but they typically remain stable up to about -.08 mV.

Yes, it also puts something else in perspective. From a power point of view, one could actually just overclock the cpu to basically hit the same fps/power ratio. Most differences are pretty small to begin with.

I think Ecores are meant for laptops to boost , multi-core performance ,and low power usage for background tasks on battery.And don't understand why too many cores are supplied for desktop. Less P core in laptop increased gaming performance but e cores for multi core performance.

I occasionally make copper wirewraped jewelry and sea salt (or epsom) and vinegar works really well for cleaning copper. I use hot (not boiling) vinegar\water\salt solution (mostly vinegar) and soak it for a hour while occasionally shaking it up (dont have ultrasonic cleaner, but that would be awesome), then wipe clean with a cloth, water rinse, dry with compressed air, then use a polishing cloth or Dremel polishing wheel with a polishing compound. For your case Im sure you could just use a warm vinegar\salt soaked cloth and just keep wiping\polishing until clean without soaking or using polishing compound. Although a good polish does help keep it from oxidizing as fast.

Ultrasonic cleaner with vinegar works perfectly, I used it on some copper waterblocks before and the result was better than expected. Not sure if you can fit that cooler in a normal person sized ultrasonic, though I would guess Roman has a hot tub sized machine at Therm Grizz labs based on everything else we see there at the shop :D

Loved the insanity of the Scythe Orochi. It was often used with a VERY low RPM fan instead of passive convection. I remember two mounting tests that some site or other made. One was using the mounting provided by Scythe. The cooler was mounted on a motherboard and then they tested how violently they had to shake everything before the computer wouldn't post. The other was someone who managed to mount it using push-pins the same way every Intel boxed fan mounts. Then they held the motherboard and tried to get the heatsink to drop off. They broke the PCB before the push-pins would budge.

vinegar + table salt makes cleaning oxidation from copper and bronze real easy. Can be used either to make manual polishing easy - or clean via immersion over more time. I used this to clean one of those old "flower ring" Zalman coolers that would normally be impossible due to all the tiny spaces beween fins. You can find 5% vinegar in normal food shops - or 30% as a cleaning product in like a hardware type shop. Both will work OK. Vinegar has lots of other good uses too. It dissolves calcium super easy (no salt) , so cleans shower glass buildup easily. Also excellent for cleaning radiators, heat exchangers, pipes ect. Just be careful about leaving it long on sensitive parts. It is an acid after all, so I would exactly recommend getting on like O-rings and such.

For refreshing copper pipes I use a jewelry polishing paste. I apply a bit on a fine threaded strip of cloth and after a bit of manual labor they look brand new with a mirror finish. You can also clear coat the visible "external" part so they will keep the shine forever without really losing any performance.

It's very difficult to get value out of high end GPUs, unless you use them for work, or you play the latest demanding AAA games all day, every day. Your average AAA GPU killer games usually don't offer hundreds upon hundreds of hours of content. So spending that extra $600 or whatever so you can get a highend GPU instead of a mid tier one more often than not is pretty bad value when it comes to $ per hour of entertainment. Not to forget, that you aren't paying to be able to play the game, but paying to have higher resolution or triple digit FPS. Everyone needs to ask themselves: Are you really enjoying those few "GPU benchmarking tool" games that much more by playing on 4K or 144Hz at Ultra, that it's worth spending many hundreds of $ extra? I'd say for most people the answer is probably no. For me personally, anything beyond 1440p/medium settings/+90fps has very extreme diminishing returns, and to achieve that on even the more demanding titles doesn't require a 3080 or something. Unless it's that one game that's just super poorly optimized, and there's nothing you can do about it really.

I play only simracing titles on my gaming PC (In a rig with a wheel and pedals). I use Minus 20% on 6800XT and it's super silent, and consumes 220W when running ACC @ 3440x1440@144Hz. That's from ~300W to ~220W but you lose only 3-5% FPS.

I tried capping my 5800X3D Vcore to 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2v allowing the boost algo to manage multipliers. I think if you just cap the Vcore and dont down step the multiplier it provides slightly more performance as at 1.0v it will still boost a few cores to 4200Mhz which for gaming should provide slightly more frames for about the same power consumption.

Acid pickles for copper will clean up tarnish very quickly making it look like new again. I am hoping to get my Coolermaster V8 to fit onto my Ryzen 5 as I put an upgraded fan in the V8 and it was a cooling monster where I couldn't make the cpu sweat let alone get hot the cooler was so efficient, it was in my Coolermaster HAF XM which I suspect was able to assist in pulling the heat away efficiently too as I got big 240mm fans atop, 200mm fans front and back and a 240mm on the case door to pull in fresh air and assist the quite complicated air cycle inside the case.

You definitely pronounced the name of the company correctly, I've never heard of anyone pronouncing it any other way. Pretty sure Noctua's passive cooler has a similar design as well, though i think Scythe's cooler has more cooling capacity based on it just being bigger and having more pipes lol. If you want a secret sauce, just cleaning them with a sauce that's high in vinegar or other acids (salsa, ketchup, mustard, etc). I've also seen people use pickle juice and corn starch to make a paste for cleaning copper, since they had an excess of pickle juice lol. When I clean my water cooling radiators I just use citric acid crystal powder added to the water, so my suggestion is to get yourself some of that, and something to make a paste with when you combine it and the citric acid with water. I did this also with corn starch and it was extremely effective for using to shine the outside of copper components that are not epoxy sealed at the factory. This is also why a lot of modern copper heatpipes don't tarnish now, since they've started sealing them with an epoxy or polymer resin layer of some type. IDK what it is exactly, all I know is i've seen a few copper pipes that were not nickle plated, which were also not tarnishing with time and age, or especially handling, since the oils and acids on your skin will leave visible fingerprints on them later if they aren't coated

Lemon juice is good for copper (the little bottle from aldi or lidl is fine). A hot vinegar bath (hot like in a boiling pot), when heated turn it down and let it simmer for a while and covered because of the toxic fumes. Sometimes bicarbonate helps, watch out for the bubbles and even more toxic fumes. Toothpaste and a cloth can do some good as well. A combination of those will most likely get the copper back to shiny new, with vinegar last so it will rinse away the sugar and toothpaste ! Except very old fingerprints that might have destroyed the metal, it's always worked for me and my various old Zalmann coolers.

You need to let it soak in for atleast 5min and then wipe/rub it with something kinda soft (repeat if needed but it must be soacked don't let it exposed to atmosphere for too long while still wet with acid ) and when you are happy imidietly wash away the acid with something non oxidising like isopropyl alcohol , WD40 or brake cleaner or it will create green oxyde surface layer in matter of minutes.

Even a VRM has a lifespan based on temperatures, but CPUs I think perhaps if its under TJMax it will still kind of give you 5+ years, if anything its just spiking or high VCore that degrades the chip, not so much temperature directly.

Two points: Remember, this would normally be used in a system that one ore more 12cm fans running at low RPM, that would direct airflow over the heatsink. The other thing: You can get aluminium oxide polishing wax blocks and use a small cloth. Rub the wax on the cloth, then rub the cloth on the copper. When the cloth is quite dirty, use a clean cloth to do a final polish / remove residue. This will leave a tiny coating of wax on the heatpipes to protect them from oxidation. Speaking as a jewelry maker.

If you want to polish copper you can use a product called BRASSO, i use it for oxidized copper waterblocks and it makes them new,the only downside is the way it smells.

Sharing my results with my 5800X3D I did an undervolt offest of .0935v and I use PBO tuner with an offset of -30. I score at 5600 on cinebench r20 and ryzen master shows a max wattage of 60w. While gaming I keep settings conservative and cap fps at 120 and I often use under 30 watts gaming. Great chip!

Additional details. I use an arctic freezer II 280mm and temps max out at in the low 60s house is 73F. Motherboard is an asus hero vii x470. If I give the cpu more power I had a score of 5800 in CR20 I did not tinker much though as I wanted a small power drawing gaming cpu. Still waiting on a gpu with 3080 performance and 3050 power draw.

@ der8auer EN I'd try simple brasso polish for restoring the heatpipes, any light weight metal polish should help remove the oxide and restore the luster. A cheap at home solution you could try first however would be smooth basic toothpaste. Trying to remove oxides with acid dips is needlessly complicated for that little bit of surface level oxide.

Thiourea solution is used to clean silver jewelry and I'm pretty sure I used it on copper too and it's the best thing I've ever used. You can just submerge the finstack in it for a few minutes and it should be basically spotless. It is carcinogenic though, so protection and good ventilation is required!

Flitz metal polish should work to remove most surface oxidation. I don’t know if it’s available in Germany, but they also have a specific product for copper and brass.

I currently have the NZXT Kraken X63 280mm AIO liquid cooler. I plan on ordering the Corsair H170i Elite Capellix 420mm AIO liquid cooler. I have the AMD Ryzen 5800X3D that I just upgraded to for strictly gaming. I had the 5950x. I just don’t do any productivity work so I don’t need all those cores. My case is the Corsair 1000D full tower. It has a top mounted slide out rack that can be mounted with a 420mm radiator. This 420mm AIO should reduce the likelihood of the 5800X3D throttling itself when under gaming and full loads.

Roman, the sound the blade makes cutting through the hay and then the hay makes hitting the ground after being cut. It hits with a Scythe (Sigh) though there are periods of time that figure "th" should be uttered and other periods that felt both pronunciations were totally OK. The word is an onomatopoeia { Lautmalerei }.

As gross as it sounds, ketchup is a great way to clean off oxidation from copper. In your case I'd recommend brushing some on to the heatpipes, letting it soak for a few hours, then wiping and rinsing it off. The copper should look new!
