It was sweet to see how excited they were just to get quarters and that $68.75 was an amazing amount of money to get. So many kids today would turn their noses up or even be ungrateful for this. Sorry you have the dates scrambled. Lucy was 13 there and Desi was 11. In the I Love Lucy show little Ricky was Lucy's first born. That's obviously where the confusion is.

Lucie Arnaz was born in 1951 and Desi Arnaz, Jr was born in 1953. Wherever you got your information from was wrong.

I am enjoying this app tremendously!!! More than I even expect. I started a journey, and it's to be continued! ( PS: I am am doing a "do over" I life for the 3rd, hey! Probably 5th time...but who is counting?) And I wanted to redo a few 50's fashions...I picked Lucy to re- create a few iconic classic dresses or suits!! Wow! I heard once, while still married to Dezi, she actually cleaned and polished the furniture in the boardroom to show she was as much of a housewife as she was celeb. So to know there wasn't any fanfare at that book signing sounds like her.

@@vaquera9368 Well, let me tell you what being an American is to some people. And maybe it will soften your heart up a little bit. First of all, I come from a mixed-up type of family. My father was raised in Roseville, Michigan. His father and mother didn't approve of his marriage to my mother. My mother grew up in St.Claire shores. She was the illegitimate child of the white man who "kept" my grandma in a tiny apartment behind his house where he had a wife and three sons. My grandma was a native American and she cleaned his house and cooked for him and his family. She was from a family of 16 kids, 13 of them starved to death. She was very fortunate to be "kept" by this man, who I called my grandfather. My parents moved north to the Flint area and raised us going to church and my mother dressed up really fancy like a lady and it was always very important to her to act and behave like a lady in public. However, we spent holidays with both sides of my family. My fathers side were all church going, well mannered, dressed up fancy people. My mother's side however, was drinkers, smokers, bandits, and women abusers. We actually were a lot closer to my mothers side of the family locationwise, so we went camping together, and fishing, and hunting and baseball games and sledding and family dinners. My mother was very cruel to her own family and she looked down her nose at them and she was stuck-up and petty and she always complained about there drinking and smoking and poor mannerisms and so on and so forth. I never understood why my mother looked down on her family and I also never understood why my grandmother (my fathers mother) looked down on my mother. Well, I now know why, but I didn't understand it until I was older. My mother wanted us to be classy ladies, kinda like she was, but graceful and proper. She was graceful and proper on Sunday at church, but that's not how she behaved when no one was looking. She was like a wildcat!!! She was like a rabid wildcat. And vicious like a serpent. And she was like that to her family and I was always hurt that she was so hard on everyone. Needless to say, I did not dream of growing up to be a classy lady. I wanted to drink, smoke, go fishing and hunting and cuss like a sailor and party 🎉 with my family and friends. I kinda thought that it was "normal", because it was normal to me, cuz that is the family who I spent the most time with. I get it now that I am older, but it's too late now. There really just aren't a whole lot of classy ladies out there to look up to and set a good example for the young ladies and gentlemen today. They don't understand why in colonial days, young ladies had escorts. I don't understand why young ladies today don't have escorts. Its actually a good idea. Women should never wander around alone. Its dangerous. But societal norms and culture has changed. Kids get there manners by examples. And we as adults are responsible for setting that example and we suck at it too. But what I did learn about life is, that we should always try to edify one another. No matter how hard it is to do. People are generally good intentioned, but some people bring out the worst.

Don’t excuse improper manners based on ones upbringing. I have my own personal story and it didn’t stop me from raising my children with proper etiquette. There’s nothing wrong with my heart. Sadly, the issues we see in society are based on PEOPLE not raising their kids with respect and honor for others. Lucille Ball I’m sure experienced hardships too in her personal life, but we are speaking about the mannerism we saw in this video. It was expected back then and it should be expected as well today.

He was raised right. Lucy’s Mother Dede basically raised the children (Lucy and Desi were working much of the time) and she taught them good manners.

My Mother of blessed memory was 38 in 1961 when she had me and 40 when she had my sister. Both healthy babies :) . I sure do miss the 20th century!

Some women had babies in their 40s in the 1950s. Often it was their 6th or 8th baby. My paternal grandmother had her first (of 7) at age 35 and her last at 48.

I was 43 when I had my first and 47 with my second. God has a sense of humor! They are now 14 and 11.

Gary was a very down to earth guy. I remember in 1992 I worked at Tamarisk Country Club, Gary Morton was a member and had a couple of nice talks with him very cool guy.

He knew what side of his bread was buttered. Keep her laughing and live the good life. He was a second rate comedian and not rich.

@@mircat28 I agree with you, but I also think he appreciated her and I think he knew she had demands of her time and an important career. His job was to make her life easier and to keep her happy and he did that. She didn’t need a man to support her financially, but I think it was important to her to have a man that supported her emotionally.

Gary Morton was no opportunist -- Lucille Ball had her own money and made sure she would not be exploited. Money was not what this was about -- she needed and got a loving companion and good on her !

I mean, "PLAYTHING" for "TOY"? I'd bet my last dollar no kid of today, not a one, would come up with "plaything" for that clue. Such a sad state of affairs.

Goes back further than social media. Started in 1992 under a two term Presidents administration that said parents didn't need to raise their own children, they should be their friends and don't dare give them a bad grade. Where look where we are now.

People say 'bring it back' but it starts with each person having good manners. If women do not bother with ill-mannered men, men will live up to the woman's standards. You don't have to me a bossy 'Miss Manners' or a snob, just unfailingly courteous and kind to everyone and you'll attract men who are similar or aspire to being approved of by you. Don't settle for less than a gentleman and then raise your kids with clear lessons in courtesy, good manners and respect for elders and women (girls for themselves and boys for women, not feminist respect that says men do nothing and women do everything to prove they are 'equal', but reverence and dignity for the mystery of womanhood). It's fine to say 'bring that back,' but it starts with women raising the bar. Women set the tone in society the same as in the home. I live in a post-communist society where everyone was forced to work outside the home whether they wanted to or not. The majority of women hated forced labor and dreamed of being able to make homes for their families and be with their children. When communism ended, women had no economic choice but to work. Nowadays women here are more able to choose to be home and they have good maternity leave and financial support for each child so they aren't absolutely forced to work or work full-time. But one result of all this forced labor is that women and men are treated equally in the workforce, but because communism was very male-dominated (fashion, pretty things, anything attractive or unique or creative was 'unequal' and forbidden, so it was grim and ugly and women craved feminine touches and the ability to make things nice and pretty), women had to claw and scratch for anything feminine. They insisted on courtly manners from men, and because the people were treated with no dignity by the system and the people had no real control over their daily lives, men found their masculinity and manhood in being gentlemen and respecting women and treating them as real ladies. As an American steeped (unconsciously) in the feminist lie that to be 'equal' means acting like a man in all things, I was first stunned and then delighted when I saw my female professional colleagues graciously expecting and receiving courtesy from male colleagues who stood when we entered a room, helped us on and off with our coats (first time in my life since childhood), opened doors and would never let a lady carry a heavy box or bag or luggage. It's heavenly. After 30 years in a culture with beautiful manners between men and women (sadly eroded in the younger generation raised on Friends and Sex in the City), I am horrified by the vulgarity and barbarous manners of Americans. Never ever want to go back to the US, not even for a visit. Terrible degradation of civilization there in my lifetime.
