14:55 Yep, the contestant blew it, but I was expecting Lawford to simply say the word without needing a clue, since he had already expressed an Eureka moment that he had finally figured it out. If he was that certain, giving his answer first would have eliminated the contestant's slip up. No harm if he was wrong, because the round was about done.

If you play enough of these old tapes, you hear the bell ring just before the correct password is guessed. That's because the video tape is stored on a spool, and some of the magnetism of the next few seconds on the next winding lays on the tape of the current moment, as it's stored on the spool.

@stmichl9433
@stmichl9433 2 жыл бұрын
If you read Eden's autobiography, Hagman was unpleasant to work with: both a narcissist, a bully and a drunk. He was also very jealous of her fame because the show was created to be his own starring vehicle and Barbara's charisma soon eclipsed his own fame and IDOJ really revolved around her. So it wasn't easy. I think because Barbara knew how to handle him and work around him, she managed to have a good working relationship with him though, and there is lots of footage of them in recent years (before he died) talking and being friendly on chat shows or you tube podcasts. Barbara even had a recurring role for a time on Dallas, where Larry Hayman was the big star through the 80s and she is really only remembered in it nowadays as a kind of guest star. It's strange how Barbara's career never really hit the heights of people like Larry Hagman's, despite her incredible popularity. It seems that characters like Jeannie typecast these actors and it really did put the brakes on them being able to star in more dramatic roles later on. Elizabeth Montgomery did some gritty and dramatic work later after Bewitched, but in the same vein, she never really became a huge movie star probably because of the typecasting of Bewitched. Fame can be both a blessing and a curse it seems, but moreso for TV stars of that generation. These days, it's quite common for big movie stars to do TV shows on Netflix or even TV stars on sitcoms or comedies to cross over into big feature films. The cross over is much more common and in fact welcomed in casting circles now. It wasn't the case in the 50s and 60s, where television was still seen as a new and "lesser" artistic medium than motion pictures and so the cross-over was both limiting and limited.

At the age of 14, Lawford severely injured his right arm when it went through a glass door. The injury greatly compromised the use of his lower arm and hand with irreversible nerve damage, which he later learned to hide. The injury was considered damaging enough to keep him from entering World War II, but this turn of fate was probably the greatest boon to his career.

Barbara was pregnant in episodes 2-11 of season 1, and a close-up in her bottle in the first episode. Barbara was going to quit the show, but Sidney Sheldon wasn’t going to let that happen, as Sidney had many different beauty contest winners to play Jeannie, but none panned out and Barbara Eden was the only one to have that Jeannie personality, and she was hired, and Sidney told her, that he would do his best to hide the pregnancy on camera, so vale’s were added to her costume and they mostly filmed up close as well, with reshoots when she had gotten bigger.

How on Earth did he get, "squaw", from the lone clue, "Hiawatha"??! Hiawatha was a man! Sure, he had a squaw, Minnehaha. But it's not like she is what he's known for or anything like that. Also, Peter was clearly helping Barbara. He suggested the hint, "query", which Barbara immediately used with success in the first Lightening Round. And then in the second Lightening Round, Peter said, "Stradivarius", which helped the professor get it immediately when Barbara said, "instrument".

@dharmaofdog7676 2 жыл бұрын
Re: Squaw/Hiawatha - I don't think that gender confusion was ever fully corrected?. It is one of those misnomers that gets ingrained - I think it started with "The Song of Hiawatha" which lends itself to simply SOUNDING like a romantic Love Song, so assumptions were made? Plus, the confusion is similar to the popular associations created around Thanksgiving & reinforced annually. That, too, seems to be taking a very long time to rectify. I found the Clue itself, "SQUAW", far more OFFENSIVE than the mistaken identity of Hiawatha ! Sadly, I think it will take a few more Generations for Native American History to be truthfully portrayed & accurately understood. When I first learned to read, I read AND interpreted the word History as "His Story" and realize, to some degree, that actually IS what it is. Before Events were recorded, it was mainly Stories verbally passed down & can only assume these were influenced similar to a "Whisper Down the Lane" Game. Even when History began to be recorded, the Stories were subjective & often, prejudiced by the "source" of Author and Story "Teller". I never really lost that naive, first impression in Mind when studying History and often wondered with just one example, how many "Battles" were accurately portrayed? Often, those were relayed over long distances and one could even say, traveled along the lines of "rumor" - similar to today's PR Spin ;) This dynamic continually confirmed personally as over the Years many areas of American History alone have been re-evaluated and "Chapters" re-written as they should be. Thanks for the pointing out of Hiawatha. Should anyone read your comment, I bet there will STILL be a lot of surprised Folks and immediate pause to go and Google! :) ** Gee, please excuse the spontaneous Essay! ?

I believe it was Peter Lawford ?! He shouldn’t have done it, for sure. 🦋

I think this was added later, but I believe the first player of a word -- if he/she thinks it can't be done in one clue -- should have the option to pass the 10-point clue to the opponent. ("Chapter" made me think of this.)

That is the game I remember watching growing up. I can't remember the years though. I was thinking about that today. Thanks for mentioning it. It does make sense when you consider the game is PASS word!

I wish i was more knowledgeable on computers because id like to be able to copy save a picture of 'Jeannie' just a portrait and do the same with ' Shirley' from Lambchop long time i saw that cute little duo but i seem to recall her looking similar? So how can i get their 2 portraits side by side to prove me wrong or right!!!! Must be easy when you know how!!! 🤔🙄

It's ridiculous that they let other people shout out clues during the lightning round.

I wish the show was still running with the low prize money. The thousands and millions have become so glib and expected. A person with average intelligence could compete.
