Watching these old B&W episodes of Password in no particular order, it amazes me how many stockbroker trainees have appeared on the show as contestants. After this episode, Gene Woods says that the contestants were selected and interviewed in advance. Did some training school for brokers have an inside connection to Goodson-Todman? When I became a stockbroker in 1983, someone gave me training course materials and I studied on my own (and passed the test first try, even leaving early). I would have loved to have been a contestant on Password, and I'd feel bad if I missed out because I didn't go to the right training school in Manhattan (not far from where I lived). But the timing would have been wrong. Password Plus had its final episode in March 1982 and Super Password didn't have its first episode until September 1984. And by then the shows were done in Burbank, California rather than in NYC.

Password was very early in Gene Wood's career as a game show announcer. He's great on "Family Feud" and he had some wonderful repartee with Richard Dawson. But I think his voice isn't right for saying the words on Password. Jack Clark had a magnificent voice for it, almost like the voice coming down from the mountaintop.

This was one of Genes first announcing assignments for Goodson Todman, he wasnt as polished nor was his style established then.( He was filling in for Jack ). He seemed to be creepyish whispering but he still did a decent job cutting his teeth announcing.

The kidnapping was not fake. It's just that the kidnappers were incompetent. Afterward, the defense tried to argue that 19-year-old Junior had orchestrated the kidnapping as a publicity stunt, but the kidnappers were all convicted.

Everyone's commenting on how "classy" we were back then. It's not that we were so "classy" - but, that we've become such uncouth slobs by comparison. But, I'm reminded of something else that defined how we saw ourselves (I'm paraphrasing, as it comes up often on Password). ALLEN LUDDEN: "And what does YOUR husband do? . . . . Oh, that's a very important job . . . . and you are such a PRETTY GIRL!" All that's missing is "Have a cookie!"

With dictionaries/lexicons full of common, everyday words in the English language, I see many of the same words being played over and over as I watch random B&W episodes of Password. Did they test out words in informal play to choose the ones to use? Or was it a matter of budget: saving the expense of having to create physical copies of the words (one for lightning round words; four for the words used in competitive play: one copy for each contestant, one copy for Allen Ludden or other announcer, and one copy to be used to display the word on the screen)?
@gusloader1232 жыл бұрын
It is amazing how many times the lazy PW staff reused words. Seems the PW staff never opened up a Dictionary or a thesaurus. Watching many of these PW episodes from my childhood is good. PW started when I was in 1st grade, and when I got home from school, Mom would be watching PW as she was ironing and folding laundry. Thanks to the person(s) who put these on You Tube. It does get annoying watching the rampant cheating of Eydie Gorme and Carol Burnett and Robert Goulet, Angie Dickinson, Eva Gabor, Lawrence Harvey, and many other Celebs, but the words are still words. Solution to stop the Celebs cheating with gestures and mannerisms & charades: What A.L. and the show producers should have done to STOP the Celebs cheating was to NOT mention what TV show, Movie. Play or Sing-Song-Music place the Celeb was going to appear. Cut their free advertising! I've been watching You Tube quite a lot the last few months because the Over-the-Air TV antenna on the roof does not work well in bad weather. I have noticed several words being recycled. This episode it was "Sweepstakes" and "Prohibition". {[ BTW - Not once I have seen the word "Alcoholism" or "Sobriety" or "Repent", "Repentance", Holy, "Sacred", "Righteous", "Faithful", "Bible" on PW, makes one wonder about the PW staff habits and biases.]} Other words used multiple times have been --> Banana, Tomato, Cat, Dog, Salt, Whiskey, Coat, Yarn, Salad, and others. Hmmm? Did the produce stand / Grocery store near the PW studio office only sale tomatoes and bananas? No Turnips, or Corn or Beans or Artichokes, or Broccoli, Apples, Celery, Blueberries?

This episode was better than usual. {Except for E.G.'s rampant cheating. 🤕} Kid Sinatra did well. The contestants did mostly "Okay". Several re-used words in the episode which have been used before. The PW staffers needed to buy a Dictionary and a Thesaurus.

@ItsFazsha6 жыл бұрын
Password was most often taped in New York at CBS-TV Studio 52 (later converted to the Studio 54 discothèque) and CBS-TV Studio 50 (the Ed Sullivan Theater) until the end of the daytime run in 1967. The original CBS version made annual trips to CBS Television City in LA during the 1960s, including once when the CBS New York studios were refurbished for color TV. During its run, Password was taped in all four of the studios at different times (31, 33, 41 and 43). As Mark Goodson opposed a permanent move of the show to Hollywood, Silverman canceled the series on September 15, 1967.
