One thing that shits my guts; In games & movies, when someone gets their throat cut, they die instantly. They just give up and flop to the ground. No, it would be more like that scene from 'Prison Break', where the guy survives. Oh well.

It took me like 5 seconds to realise he was walking on nothing in the opening.

I actually played this cos all I heard was that it's like a new Second Sight. It's a pretty good idea done really badly. The powers are kinda fun but the repetition and checkpoints causing even more repetition make it dull. Then I realized its only 4 hours long so the tediously long tutorial and endless car park level are like half the whole game.

Nothing can cure Past Cure. Nothing can make it a good game.

I think I'd rather look at the voice acting. That way I wouldn't have heard it.

I was curious about this game because it looked interesting but something felt off about it. Usually I can tell how a game is going to play from the screenshots but I couldn't with this one, which usually is an indication that they are trying to smash a few games together and failing at it. Glad my instincts are still on point :)

The parking garage part reminded me a lot of the parking lot mission in Splinter Cell Conviction

Am I the only one that's confused by the state of the chess board at 3:01? It looks like the pieces on the board are different in the second shot (where he moves the pawn back to its original position) than in the first shot (when runs up to the board). Then it gets even weirder when it turns he moves the pawn back diagonally. That means that in order to end up in this "dangerous" position, he must have taken a piece with the pawn before (because that's the only way a pawn can move diagonally). Oddly enough, that is exactly the sort of set-up we see in the first shot! The white pawn is positioned so it can take the the right-most of the two black pawns. So it seems like the first shot contains the set-up of the board from BEFORE he made the move that put him in the situation that caused him to choke! I know jack shit about chess so I have no idea if any of this made any sense....

I'm afraid there is no cure for this one. Great video as always Jim.

The protagonist sounded like Markiplier in one of his world's quietest let's plays but with a British accent. In case you missed that, someone that's choking and in massive danger, while feeling a surge of panic and adrenaline, sounds like Markiplier purposely keeping his voice low and quiet while holding back emotion. That is horrible voice acting.

Hah, they used royalty free music in the elevator at the end. Brilliant!

I can't wait for the good games to start coming out. Ni No Kuni II in just a couple weeks here. Yakuza 6 next month. I'm not aware of any other game I'm interested in coming out until later this year though. But those 2 will last me a loooooong while :D

I watched a stream of a demo of this where the dev showed up, and it was so sad to see the streamer trying really hard to be positive with the dev staring at her, when the game was obviously so fucking mediocre.

In the out of bounds part, I noticed some surfaces had the default material in Unreal Engine.

So, after working on homework for my film class I THINK I understand why the voice acting is the way it is at least. (Or at least I'm hoping it is this way and the devs aren't just that blase about something so important.) I'm thinking the va, at least the protagonist's inner monologue is supposed to mimic the movie Memento wherein Leonard voiced his thoughts in a similarly monotone way. (However, Guy Pearce and Christopher Nolan sell it.) If that's the case then it's just an okay idea executed terribly instead of a crap idea also executed terribly. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I'm trying to be optimistic and simply grasping at straws.

A bit more seriously, it doesn't LOOK awful (at least compared to some I've seen) But, it seems to be suffering from the AAA disease of trying to be all games to all players. In my experience, truly good games /usually/ do one thing and do it well or at least focus on one central idea. Its when developers try and mix and match generas and play styles to get just a few more players. That's why we have games that can't make up their minds if they're FPS, RPG's, walking simulators, or puzzle games. And wind up not satisfying fans of any of those generas. So they make the game look pretty to cover up a lack of vision and central focus. Whatever one thinks of Cuphead, it is an extremely focused game that is trying very hard to be just one thing: a run and gun. And it works as that and that's one reason its popular despite it being unforgiving. Fallout 1&2 were RPGs. They weren't RPG/walking simulator/exploration/FPS games. They were good at what they set out to do. Something to be said for that I think.
