For todays video I have taken the four pastel pencil sets I own and compared them side by side to see the real differences. Are pastel pencils something you really need?
And are the sets really that different?

A great video Emma. I have the Castle Arts and the Astra Pstelowe and like them both. I agree the Castle Arts are expensive for a budget brand ( mine were a present) and that they are different to the original Castle Arts pencils, they seem much softer. I like the Astra's and never had a problem with them, I bought mine directly from Poland before the world went mad, for about £10 including postage. Personally, as I am not an artist, I wouldn't even consider buying Holbeins. Thank you for all your hard work and time on this video.

Fingers Crossed I am getting the Brutfumua I cannot afford the other and they seem the best to my eye .I'd love Holbein but I don't have a budget for them. Thank you for this Video it is really very helpful thank you xxx

Thank you for doing this, you confirmed my suspicions. I got lucky and got my Holbein 50 pastels a year and half ago at a great price on Amazon Japan. I didn't like them at first, much softer than I generally like. I have wondered about the other brands. But really the more I use them the more I like them. I like the light layers technique also. I do really also love all the pastel colors in the Black Widow sets, so I am really good on pastel colors!

Once you have and enjoy a beautiful pencil set like the holbein and get used to a technique that helps them shine you really wouldn't need any more

This is really useful, thanks a mill! I bought the Brutfuners recently because they’re so cheap. If I end up using certain colours a lot, I’ll consider buying the open stock Holbein version

This was a VERY useful video! I always thought most pastel pencil sets looked very similar, but I didn't realise they were basically identical. The Arteza ones seem to be pretty much the same as well. I vaguely remember seeing one pastel pencil set with brighter and more vibrant colours, but of course I can't remember which ones they were 🤨

Bombus 13, it was probably the Brutfunner 80 set. That has brighter colors and pastels.

I really enjoy my Holbeins in my Eriy books. I have the 12pc Pastel set from them but otherwise, just use pastel-y colors from my regular sets. I don't do a lot of pencil work these days so the ones I have, work well. I love how you discuss expensive vs. cheap brand. The colors look really well stacked up against each other (even the names too). TFS!

What I want to know is what pencils the Brutfuner Macarons are.. they are lovely and I want more in standard colors. Sturdy yet soft, classy to look at and hold, blend beautifully.

I think they are quite similar to the other brutfuner sets and would be a good edition to any of those

@@emmacolours2020 They actually don't match any of the other Brutfuners. 3.8 core, capped end, colored body, named and numbered with silver ring. The others are all different sizes/styles. I think they are something else white labeled.

I meant the pencil formula itself works in a complementary way to the other sets so can be combined together.... Rather than the barrels looking the same

I really enjoyed this, Emma. Do you have any tips on swatching pencils, paper to use and how to store/organise them? I do start swatching but find myself going for the pencil barrel colour (oops)

Hi hun..... Check out my what pencil what paper video on my channel I go through a lot of them for you.... Tbh hun for some of us swatching doesn't work if you don't really use them the age old scribble the one you fancy on a bit of paper works fine lol. .. Otherwise I have a how I swatch video lol

If you are interested in castle art look around online for a coupon code. I got 50% off the already reduced price and got all three of the sets (pastel, standard 120, and metallic) for $60 total, and free shipping. They were well worth that. It's a big set with a huge unique color range all together. The metallics are not terribly shiny but nice different mostly muted shades and I use them just like they were any usual colored pencil.

For a good price they are nice pencils.... They tend to be a little too expensive to be worthwhile in the uk

Just a dumb (possibly rude) question for you and every other pencil tuber. Why do you Swatch pencils over and over and over like that to get the color order? Is that part of the process of learning how the pencil works? I ask because I see lots of art-tubers doing this swatching thing and saying they swatch over and over and over for the sake of putting colors into a particular order, and I keep wondering why waste pencil like that? Why not just do the swatches One time on a good paper, and then cut up the paper into little swatch cards and just move those around to get the color order you want?

I only ever Swatch once to be honest as I hate swatching lol ....I did this video as a request for viewers to show side by side comparison....I rarely use swatches so I can't really answer that question for you hun
