Always nice and informative. I actually love my cheap Staedtler graphite hand-held for everything. It is about $3.00 CDN and has two holes and two blades. Very easy to get a good point and the blades are awesome. Good to know about these, though. We always like 'choices'. Have a great day!

I have a brass bullet, great sharpener, but the blade should be changed often, I think about 10 pencils to be sharpened, and then the blade is sharp and sharpens pencils is not so acutely, BUT does not break the rod

I'm from Germany and I would looooooove to buy one of these sharpeners. But unfortunately, as so often, only the blade is made in Germany, not the sharpener. The cheapest I could find in the last 3 years was around 30€ for a set of 2 from the bullet ones. I want to use them for my colored pencil. If any one knows, where to get these sharpeners in Germany for a decent price, I would be very happy if you let me know. But the Kum pencil you showed should also be very good for pastels, because of it two steps. The frist step will just remove the wood, only of you use the second step, it will sharpen the mine or pastel inside. I think thats a very nice way for people who like th sharpen with a blade, exactly as you showed us. Then you could sharpen the lead with step two or a blade or a sanding paper etc... and also for some people using watercolor pencils. because the only use step one and they have a bare lead to work with and not pigments that are sharpened away.

Try using an electric X-Acto Powerhouse they have improved the blades, they will even sell you a warranty, I purchase mine from Office Depot/Office Max. Great for pastel pencils😊

Mr.Jason what would you say about cosmetic pencil sharpener? will i be able to use for caran d'ache pastel pencil without lid breaking? I watched all of your reviews about pastel pencils and decided to buy caran d'ache they are fastastic even better than carbothello but now problem is sharpening, you know that eyeliner pencils are very soft,and cosmetic sharpener is intended for them, I think it will not break caran d'ache lid, what do you think?

It's worth a try for sure. It's the reason I don't buy caran - I can't sharpen them in my crank sharpener

@@wildlifeartjm Yes agree with you they are very soft, but they layer beautifully over each other it's incredible at working light over dark, I will try cosmetic sharpener and will share here my recommendation, I also liked this round M&R brass sharpener and is it worth to buy for my caran? will it sharpen all of my 20 colour set?, like carbothello some of them sharpened without breaking, and some broke cause some colour is softer, if it do work for any colour I will buy this hand held sharpener

Have you tried the Cretacolour Studio portrait set? I found they shatter....

Since some weeks now, saw a lot of vid's about best pastels (not pencil !!) sharpener, and no one... no one answer in a straight way !!!!!!! neither this one !

kum sharpner gets blunt very quickly.

Weird,I had the opposite experience with all the KUM sharpeners I own! When a sharpener goes dull,I sharpen them with Fallkniven CC4. I make them sharper than how they come when new! KUM last longer,then m+r come 2nd. Faber Castell ones,depends on where it was made. Now they make most of them in China and they all suck.
