In this narrated Pastel Portrait tutorial I discuss how to draw / paint a realistic beard... Pastel pencils. Beards can look flat and drab, I have experimented over the years and check out what approach I take to overcome this issue. I share my techniques and tips for pastel Portraits. Slowed down Real time footage so you can take a closer look.
My passion is to help you to create realistic and soulful artwork. If you found this video useful please give it a like. Be sure to comment and say hello and let me know what kind of videos you'd like to see.

This is very interesting! In one occasion I saw you paint with soft pastel pencils, when you could do it faster with panpastel, now I realize that it's also important to do it with pencils too, for not lose the ability to mix colors subtly. Thank you!

I prefer to build up texture with the pastel pencils layer after layer. I have not tried pan pastels yet, so can't really comment. Will at some point have a play with them. 😊🙏
@claritzairosario68
@claritzairosario68 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavePortersArt it looks so beautiful and natural when you add layer after layer. With the panpastel, you can build in the same way, but when you practice a lot, and you can cover more space. Well, I prefer this technique of yours, very interesting! Thank you 😊

What is your opinion on UART sanded paper? I love it because you could erase , blend pastel dust easily on this ...but main issue is it doesn't hold pastels like pastelmat...what's your experience? I wish you could do a video on pastel papers only
@DavePortersArt
@DavePortersArt 2 жыл бұрын
Not tried UART sanded paper... I've used Sennelier La Carte Pastel Card which I loved but it damages easy if you get any moister on the surface so went on to pastelmat as this seemed to be the favourite choice of artists I know. I just sick with Pastelmat 🙏

@@DavePortersArt Thanks Dave. I’m a beginner. I am entirely lost on the underpainting part and in general cannot tell which pastel colors are being laid down first and precisely how line-wise. Do you have a tutorial about color theory applied to your work? You briefly mention this in this video. I purchased all the supplies you listed here so I’m ready to go. Thanks again. I love your work and the way you teach.
