I keep coming back to this. “I heard you when you thought that” is just incredible
@MsFuzzipoo4 жыл бұрын
I'm a year late but I'm still replying to say: yes it is incredible. It's a silly thing to say because of the impossibility and yet... JD delivers the line in a way that makes you *believe* him, just a little. Furthermore, "You may only hold this thought for a second or so..." always makes me chuckle. I guess I find humor in the accuracy of the statement. I was never a tweaker but I, um... dabbled. I (unfortunately) understand what he means: how thoughts pop up and then vanish in an instant, only to be replaced with different thoughts that vanish and get replaced, again and again and again... oof. It's not a headspace I ever want to revisit but it's one I'll never forget.

One of my favorite tMG songs of all time. Cannot BELIEVE how good the sound quality is here. Sound engineers for the Independent, you are goddamn amazing!!! Gorgeous full drum and base sound here. SO much glorious energy.

No shit. I usually cringe and am leary to click on live videos cuz it's usually shit audio from somebody's iPhone. But this is perfection.

When I think of cities like Portland, I think of John Darnielle. He's left ghosts.
@Unreissued5 жыл бұрын
him and elliott both
@MsFuzzipoo5 жыл бұрын
I lived there for eight years. I'm nobody special but I left some of my own ghosts there. I don't know why, but Portland really lends itself to that kind of thing.

@@howtomeetwomen- it's a weird town, in many ways. It's sadly gentrified like mad since I lived there, but the city is still there underneath the fancy condos.

What an absolutely rollicking rendition of this song. Intro was great as well. Jon Wurster has some of the best drum fills out there imo

The guy on guitar is Peter Hughes? He’s got a superb voice.
@joshkeck63486 жыл бұрын
Source? Because I'm absolutely certain that Shelved is Peter's ONLY lead part in Goths. They have pretty different voices and I'm hearing John on lead for all of Cocaine and Peter doing harmonies

@@ericsb474 i learned what this whole record was about from hearing this song the first time I put the record on... in recovery from a several month meth binge after my divorce, wherein I had been introduced to Tallahassee. I was hungry for more mountain goats, and coincidence is wild sometimes.

As someone who has, don't. Cherish stability. You may never get it back. Hell's gates are locked from the inside.
@endersquid11322 жыл бұрын
The stability this world offers is just a monotonous hell that damns you to dwell on your own pain... It prompts you to construct prisons in your mind that you can't escape from, a dangerous life is atleast a life lived, not a life wasted away trapped inside your own head...
@thomasbarnes45415 жыл бұрын

Agreed, they needed to turn down his mic, he’s louder than John and it turns the harmony into the dominant melody
