We are not toddlers. This is convenient teaching full of assumptions of what God thinks. He struggled to debunk polygamy. He was inconsistent with who started polygamy. First he admitted Jacob started it and later said it was started by the acceptance of Kingship by Israel. He used his own logic to assume that God should have asked Noah/sons to married 7 wives if he wanted a fast track the increase in human race. His argument is whimsical and selective just like the supporters of polygamy. His argument was bereft of biblical justifications but full of Bible stories. He is very intelligent and eloquent with words and teachings so people are easily swayed to accept his opinions even when they are light weight

@MaxwellJuniorBaidoo-sq5zs I think Dr. Otabil was categorical about what he said. He also stated that although we have polygamous cultures before biblical days, and even afterward, this does not support the fact that God approves or approved of their mistakes. Marriage is not from a cultural perspective; it's God's perspective, thus objective.

Pastor Otabil didn't need to. He was asked a question and he answered it correctly. But there are times when it is necessary to pointedly call out those teaching error in order to warn people from being misled from the truth. Paul did that many times in His writings and we shouldn't shy from following his example if/when necessary. The preservation of Biblical truth should always take precedence over everything else.

It's funny how we ask questions about God's will but direct the question to a fallible man. Christians need to know God for themselves and hear from Him first hand so that what you know is not anchored on a man's exegesis but on God's revelation of His word. Today it is an easy question, tomorrow it may be a controversial question. Learn to hear from God yourself on every matter regarding His will.

You said it all @11:24, He didn't have polygamy in mind but acted circonstancially. Exactly, no man has ever had polygamy in their mind but the circumstances, such as disrespectfulness, lack of few things or changes of the wife) that pushes man to start looking around for what lacks from the first wife. I cannot blame this speaker, he's only speaking of what he thinks which has not Biblical Scripture....

The final judgement shall be around Salvation which is the ultimate and not Religion. We all know in parts, but when the Lord and Saviour shall appear the unknown shall be unveil. Monogamy or Polygamy... None of it will hinder the Salvation of our souls to Heaven rather our belief will. Shalom!

From Genesis to Revelation, there is no where that God spoke against polygamy. It would however be accepted that the initial concept of instituting marriage was for one man one wife "from the beginning it was not so" Mt.19.8, buy as society began to expand coupled with the reduction of the men due to incessant wars, and other factors, the vacuum for polygamy was created. If God Himself who is the same yesterday, today and forever Heb. 13.8, didn't condemn the practice of polygamy, as shown in Exodus 21.10, and encouraged in 2 Sam.12.8, the practice of polygamy should therefore not be seen as sin.......

The words fornication does not mean sex before marriage. It rather means all forms of sexual immoralities; adultery, bestiality, sleeping with a woman in her menses, sodomy and incest. Adultery is not understood by many. In israel, if a man has a consensual sex with an UNMARRIED woman, it wasn't adultery even if the man is MARRIED. The man was suppose to go ahead and marry the woman as per the custom. He will pay 50 shekels(this was a fixed price) for all virgins. But if the father refuses, the man will still pay the fix price but the woman will remain in her father's house. Because her virginity was taken, no man will marry her, so she will be taken as a concubine by another man. This is why concubines were not part of the marital covenenants because they had already shed their hymenal blood on another man. But if a married or unmarried man sleeps with a Married woman. He has committed adultery and will be stoned to death because the woman belonged to another man. Adultery then was not based on the man but on the woman. This is why we often read "adulterous woman" in the scriptures more often. A married man only commits adultery when she sleeps with a married woman. But once a woman is married, no matter who she sleeps with, she has commited adultery. Now, there are other forms of uncleanness that are not necessarily adultery. 1. A man who sleeps with unmarried multiple women and does not marry them intentionally or take them for concubines. 2. A man who sleeps with prostitutes. 3. A woman who was a prostitute. By the way,God forbade temple prostitution because it was linked to gods and idols of the other nations but allowed regular prostitution in Israel. There is a difference bet6temple prostitution and regular prostitution. These were all unclean but were not classified as adultery .

What i gather is that there is no instruction from God against marrying more than one wife. Also Abraham is said to have married Hagar in Genesis 16:3. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. Lastly even in the New Testament there is no explicit command against polygamy except that someone in a leadership role should be a man of one wife. Now as Christians we should base our understanding on scripture and what God says, not patterns that we see. I’m not advocating polygamy, I’m saying we shouldn’t add to the Bible what is not there.

Great analytical message on polygamy by the elderly pastor. We are living in a world of misery. I use to think about the many women in the world compared to their less populated male counterparts, alarming ratio of 10 women to 1 man. Polygamy isn't biblical but how do we care and protect the surplus women in the world today? Is there a science that could stop humanity from giving birth to more female children but more males in order to equalize the ratio of men to women? Many of us supported pastor Mensah hypocritically, we're not being sincere. Polygamy is a sin but we're right in there with the surplus women around, we still admire the beautiful girls down the street and even in our offices. What's that called? Have you ever researched why men behave the way they do? Why did God wired men to be so sexually attracted to women they see appealed to them? It's a bit painful seeing our surplus women in the world die of loneliness, depression, and sometimes childlessness. Should the surplus women be individually deprived of their right of getting a soul mate since all men are taken? What will be the future consequences of having too many women compared to men in a society? Is it okay for the surplus women to be alone?

So the fact that though you have eaten and you're full, because there's a spare food and it can go bad the next day, you must of necessity eat that one too no matter the health implications? And who decieved you that all the Women walking in this world can't get a husband? Who told you so? What you've just written is the same excuse and lies being perpetrated by men who know not Christ and are deliberately finding every excuse to have multiple sexual partners. I have always said that some of you, no matter the Truth you here from the Scriptures, because your hardened hearts and your arrogance of the kind of life you're leading, you will still look for flimsy excuses, lies and strange analysis to help you still live the wrong and sinful lives you're in. Even if for nothing you should've read the answer Jesus gave to the pharisees. He was clear that in the beginning God made them one man and one woman. Please which woman in this Country or all over the world has been telling you she needs help with regards to a husband? Did our women ask you to pity them that way? Has the women in the world been complaining to you or you're the one speaking for them out your own guilt or strong uncontrolled lust? Even if there happens to be more cars on Earth than humans, it never ever justifies a man who goes robbing companies and people of their cars with the excuse that he is going to dash it to those who do not have. Life is not like that. If you want to keep on remaining in your sins, fine, but don't justify evil with flimsy and wrong analysis. There are many Men for all women, let them choose one each and settle down and stop the sinful lies.

If God says that i hate divorce and never say that i hate polygamy. who are we to condem polygamy? Ps. Mensah said many things about this matter that is not biblical. read more on these and you shall know the truth. Gen 16;3, 2samuel 12;8, Number 12;1-10, Gen 4;23

The 1st Pastor lost and missed it all. The fact that the great men in the married more than one wife doesn't mean it was right and that God accepted. Because it is recorded in the Bible doesn't make it right. Why didn't God create 2 women for Adam? Why didn't Noah marry 2? They should study very well. Kudos to Pastor Otabil

I'm a paentocostal christian, but even I will admit that some of our believes come from colonial fobia. God can speak for himself. If God didnt condemn it then who are we to do so?

That’s not true? Deuteronomy 17:17 KJV “17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away.” 1 Corinthians 7: 2- KJV “2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.” Matthew 19: 3- 20 KJV You people to listen to Dr DK Olukoya on what happens in polygamy homes. If men care about households; they would run away from such marriages.

@@happinessinheart5340 what paul talked about was fornication and not multiple wives. There is a different between fornication, adultery and polygamy as a well. Read the scriptures well. If God did not condem it who are you to do so.

Thank God for this clear and Biblically-sound teaching on Polygamy by Pastor Otabil. May all who may have been misled or confused by the erroneous message Dag gave on the subject, find the needed correction from it. Ministers of the gospel, like all humans, make mistakes in their teachings and conduct, and when they do, we must lovingly, but firmly, call them out, not make excuses for them or try to defend the indefensible out of sheer loyalty to them. Our first and highest loyalty must always be to God, His Word and His kingdom, not to any man, no matter his position or role in our lives.

Few corrections ABRAHAM: He didn't practice adultery with Hagar. Hagar was a concubine and concubines could engage in sexual affair with their masters butbwere not part of the marital covenant. JACOB: It's clear that Jacob had no problem with polygamy because he still went ahead slept with his two concubines after he had Leah and Rachel because of the need for children. MOSES: He had two wives and not one. Ziporrah was his first wife with whom he had two children with, Gershom and Eliezer. And the Cushite woman he married in Numbers 12:1. POLYGAMY is not ideal but it surely wasn't something God hated. He gave room for that. The father of faith(Abraham)-- sex with Sarah and Hagar The prophet of the law(Moses)- Ziporrah and the Cushite woman. The picture of king of Judah(David)-- Multiple wives. The picture of knowledge, wisdom and understanding (Solomon) - multiple wives and concubines. And many more and not once was any rebuked by God for engaging in multiple wives. Solomon was only rebuked because she married from other nations and David rebuked because she slept with another man's wife which is adultery.

Now in the body Christ. Ofcourse one wife is encouraged but again it's not an instruction. Just as the high priest was entitled to only one wife in the old testament, but the rest of Israel is not bound by such a law. Bishops, deacons and leaders of the churches should be husbands of one wife, but the rest of the congregation are no bound by such a an instruction. If a believer has two wives, his responsibilities for the Lord will be greatly impeded just as one with one wife will be as compared to an unmarried one. Therefore Paul advises that we should stay unmarried but to avoid burning in lustful passion, we should marry. So it's not the marriage itself that's wrong but the effect of it in the Lord's work.

It was Jesus who expanded and extended it to the man. The Bible is even silent whether the man being referred to by Jesus was married or not but clearly the woman was married (John 8:9-11) and in Matthew 5: 27-28 he said looking lustfully to a woman was adulterous which translated to being unfaithful to God

I belt if there was another woman on earth at the time of Adam & Eve, Adam would have married that woman in addition. Pastor Otabil forgot that they were only 2 of them on earth. Also, when Sara gave Hagar to Abraham, he accepted the fact that he needed a next of kin so he lay with Hagar and conceived. Why God didn’t tell Abraham that he has sin? Let’s not forget that there’re two sides of every thing and I think we can differentiate “good and bad”.
