He was actually 18 when she OD’d that’s why he said he brought her his music to listen to. His father took custody but his grandparents were very close to him

He said that during the recording session he asked everyone to leave the studio so he could record the last monologue alone. He said the last part of this song was extremely hard to record. It was not scripted, like pastor said. The beauty is that you can see the growth, maturity, and healing from the pain this song and the beautiful letter to his mom in the song Mama in Hope.

Based on other songs, he never went down the addiction route. He even struggled to get onto mood/depression/OCD medication his therapist recommended. He says that he was worried about the medication route, and the chance of ending up like his mom. He also says that even being around drunk and high people gives him extreme anxiety to the point of shaking.

I heard this song when i was still addicted to pills and herion, when it first came out. It hit me really hard and now ive been clean for awhile. I just heaed his song "mama," recently, and it made me cry to see he finally forgives his mom. Im very happy for him, and i can understand his mom's perspective as well. I feel very bad for him and for her. My mom was also an addict, but she got saved when she was pregnant with me, and she said God saved her and she has never touched another drug or drink since.

I thank God that I broke this generational curse in my family. I had to heal alot of pain and trauma I understand NF exactly. He my favorite Christian rapper.

I lost my mom 8.5 years ago, when I was 23. She was addicted to pills and alcohol (typically combined). She was once put on probation because she would call in her own prescriptions (she worked around doctors offices and I guess knew what to say). I’m not a religious man, quite the contrary, but it was nice hearing your outlooks on this song. I haven’t checked yet but you guys should do Mama. It is a recent release on his last album to come out (I think in April?).

You mentioned about people who have experienced childhood trauma often re-enacting their circumstances. That is the theme of Happy, made even more clear by the video. I particularly like that lyrically it is structured and expressed as a prayer (opening words "Dear God, please, hear me out I know it's been a couple years, ..."). He addresses many of the bad traits that his trauma has induced and he is asking God to help him work his way past those behaviors. I didn't see that y'all had covered Happy yet, but I would recommend it when you get the chance.

JP stated "sins of the father will be passed down generation after generation" I feel that I can attest to that because I drink beer to dampen daily life/stress (I shouldn't, nor do I overdo it, because 1)work, 2)family life, but it's a pattern i repeat, after watching my father growing up.) I work as a cook/sous cook current, so . . Of course beer is readily available to me at lesser cost than purchasing at another place. All I've done is sworn off liquor, which isn't much. But I saw how it impacted me and my family... so... Baby steps to being less alcohol-inclined.. might ask a coworker to join me for kickboxing classes.
@emilIsaiah
@emilIsaiah 5 ай бұрын
I should also attest -my brother, 18 y.o will not drink or do drugs. Cos he saw me and our dad in states while growing up. Edit; Therfore it may not be generation to generation, but a varied sort of course.

Thank you JP-- for suggesting to .. take my gift from god and not succumb to my adversary (alcohol) - not your words entirely, but the message hit me.... Words I needed to hear to get shit done... Now I wanna do it. I wish you were a pastor here!! I want a person to speak the truths and word to us... I'll try a bit harder to motivate myself.

This is like watching the blind lead the blind. I don't feel h guy chasing the songs is that in depth in his knowledge if NF. I hope the pastor goes back and does his own journey with NF and gets to hear NF in some of his faith based songs like I'll Keep On. Also taking the journey he will understand what NF suffered at the hands of his moms boyfriend since it is referenced in a couple songs. And his mom was addicted to pain pills which wasn't uncommon during that time period.
