I'm a black dude and I don't support SAS' comments about Shohei. I don't care what language he speaks, Ohtani is a generational talent that is living up to the hype, dude is a beast. If anything, having Ohtani being the face of baseball is a GOOD thing, brings more eyes to the sport of all ethnicities

Jeremy Lin flash backs. I remember SAS was the biggest hater during Linsanity while all his colleagues had nothing but praise. It's so painfully obvious he just doesn't like seeing anyone other than a black person at the top. on the other side, It's hilarious to see the nonsense he comes up with since he can't say anything about Shohei's game.

He is an idiot but some of it make sense. Otani play on the field is out of this world and will bring lots of people to the sport. It's unfortunate that he can't speak English since he could be the face away from the play (ex. See his full personality and have him become a broadcaster after he is done playing ) maybe in that time they will have a better system so the MLB can promote him at his fullest.

@@gabrielkelly2631 No disrespect to Tatis Jr, Guerrero Jr, or Bichette, yet in my opinion, the difference is that those are kids of famous ballplayers who basically grew up with a golden baseball and titanium cleats. Ohtani on the other hand comes from a prefecture in Japan that has suffered horrible disasters like a bad Tsunami, it was basically next door to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. It is also a very rugged and poor prefecture which economy is basically deriving from wood logging. I think the guy is as humble as a real raw talent. The real Natural!

I find that most ESPN shows don't talk about baseball. You have to go to MLB Network to find baseball discussion. I think that hurts baseball's popularity right now more than anything.

Agreed. SAS used to be a foil to Skip Bayless and occasionally have takes that just happened to be hot. Now he's a hot take factory whose existence depends on trying to have an instant hot take on every bit of sports news every day. The hot takes element of sports media is so frustrating. I think it’s cool how many people have embraced his interpreter. He’s mentioned on all their social media’s, and he even takes part in promotional videos even if ohtani doesn’t speak. I’m pretty sure he’s been best friends with shohei since childhood, and has even become friends with several angels

Othani has said that he uses an interpretor because his stuff is also broadcast in Japan as well. So the translator does the english side, and then the japanese audience gets from him as well. so... .... .... .... yeah.

@@optricks2469 The world isn't normal so it doesn't matter what language he speaks. More non english speaking people watch and play baseball around the world from Asia to Latin America. Add up all of those people and it's a bigger audience than America. In the end it's his decision to speak whatever language he wants.

Foreign players who are active in Japan also have an interpreter. Ohtani's interpreter, Ippei, originally worked as a foreign interpreter in Japanese baseball.

As a black man living in the United States of America also a foreigner, I honestly don't see why people overreacting to the comment Steven A has made, I've to some of the Asians countries there are so many places I wasn't allowed to go just because I was black, the funny thing is I don't know any black countries that have any restrictions against any race when it comes to visiting our countries, my question to the asian community.
