After hearing y'alls complaints for so long I have finally gone and got a blank patch panel and filled it with rj45 shielded keystone jacks! mwhuahahahaha. AND if that wasn't evil enough, I also have a shielded patch panel and none of the ethernet cables are shielded! You are welcome!

It looks so much more clean now that you added the second patch panel. That is some good fine work you done.

@@SPXLabs Well deserved! BTW when you cut off the excess copper strands on the side of the keystones - cover up the other equipment closeby ... I had some little snippets fly into the air vents below once and it took me forever to get them out, i have a towel in my toolbag for things like that

@@SPXLabs lol I just hate to look for those little 'snippets', it terrified me seeing them going into powered switches underneath ... either getting a short or the fans fail ... Some Ubiquity manual i read (YES I DO) said to power them off & on for big changes, also to disable PoE on 'crossconnect' ports (from one switch to another, or uplink ports) ... guess that's for safety just in case your electrician screwed up and there's a voltage potential between those units ... I learned it the 'hard way' - always connect a good ground before anything else

I only do things safely when it’s not my own stuff. It wouldn’t be fun unless I triggered you guys or had you on edge. Like back when I had an iMac precariously placed on the edge of my workbench. Lol

Wait --how did you attach the cable management tray to the front of the patch panel? I just got mine, same as you, 2 separate pieces, but they won't click together as is. Should I brute force the tray into opening its clamps so the click on the panel? I was hoping you'd show how to fit those pieces together in your video

After reading some documents on these server racks I ready they have to be grounded. 1. Did you do that 2. Where do you attach it to in your house?
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs Жыл бұрын
Grounding can be a bit difficult but if and when possible I attach the grounding cable to the grounding pin on a NEMA 5-15. You can DIY it or buy one. For my home I don't believe the air is being statically charged by anything and there is a lack of carpet so I myself am not highly charged. So I don't ground my stuff because I believe it's not necessary. But if I did, I would just attach to the nearest grounding pin of a NEMA 5-15.

Why did you put a zip tie behind the Keystone jack? Does it help with something or is it part of the instructions?
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs 2 жыл бұрын
It helps keep the keystone “locked” so there is no chance that the cable can be ripped out

@@SPXLabs Let's start with the fact that you're not a professional. You're picking something up at home. Ok no problem. But such short cables mean that you have no room for maneuver. You don't know because you're not a professional. If you worked in networks, you'd know this. This is basic knowledge. Too bad you can't talk constructively, but you attack right away. I've been in this business longer than you've been alive. But it never occurred to me to write shit like that. You still have a lot to learn boy.
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is just a hobby…. I’ve never claimed to be a pro. If I had longer cables it would be messy and ugly, I don’t need maneuverability when the environment is static. You should have lead with this comment! It’s so much better.

@@SPXLabs As I said. You don't know what you're talking about. I have a question. Why do you need a patch panel if you don't know how it works? How do you connect more distant ports? There is such a thing as "Cable Management Panel". Opsss... I'm sorry, you don't know what I'm talking about. Real life is brutal... for you.

NEVER use BLANK patch panels! They are a problem waiting to happen. ALWAYS use punch-down style for easy troubleshooting.
