Thanks for the nostalgia ride! It was definitely a weekend or holiday because there are no rush hour trains parked in staging sidings. Back in 1980 I used to work for the Speed Line in the Signals group. One commenter was sad that the AC Line train passed them. I can assure you that the HS Line trains can outrun them no problem but they are speed limited with passengers onboard. Normal cruise speed between stops is 70 MPH. Rumored by the "old guys" that they can hit 100. Another noted the train crossed over to the other track before going underground. Yes, the normal track section must have been out of service for maintenance. It crossed back to the normal side before Broadway Station. On the Philadelphia side after coming off the Ben Franklin Bridge there is the Franklin Square Station with access to the Liberty Bell park that is closed and boarded up. Last used in 1976 for the Bicentennial.

Not for long. After 45 years, PATCO is reopening the Franklin Square Station later this year due in part to new developments in housing and business. The Delaware River Port Authority has spent about a few years cleaning up the dirty grime and dust left behind after the station closed down in 1979 due to low ridership.

A testimony to the quality of the upkeep of the trains by the maintenance shops! If this were the MBTA in Boston they would already be broken down 🫤

Nice. A long time ago I used to work in an office building right next to the Haddonfield stop. I can still remember the building shaking when the trains went by

15th & Locust, the last stop in Philadelphia Center City. It would be nice if the line continued through West Philadelphia to the 69th Street transit hub, then out to Norristown on the SEPTA speed line.

We barely got up to 54MPH before we had to brake for the next stop. Track speed for the ACRL is 80MPH during the section while PHSL is 70MPH.

Yes it is, the same guy who does the announcements for the Newark AirTrain.

They switch from the right track to the left track just before going underground. Is that the usual route?

They normally travel right and at higher speed in that section. It looks like this was filmed last summer; they had a period of time where they were single-tracking that section for upgrade work, which may have been the cause.

@TheHungryTransitFan This info is incorrect, this video was filmed 2 weeks before uploading. I didn't see any work crew in the tracks, maybe they were preparing work for during the night.

@@Frances_Network_Production right, around August, that's in the time frame. The work went from around mid-July through August due to flooding on July 4th (I made a video about it). I rode PATCO around 10 days before this posted, they were double-tracking then (made a post about it on Twitter/x, that's how I was able to recall it). Thankfully, the work is all done, and they're running quite efficiently with no flooding since!

@@Frances_Network_Production don't sweat it! I rode it several times during that period, also I think the catalyst for the track work schedule change was the day I rode in my 4th of July video, so it's burned into my memory! 😂 Side note, I really enjoy your vids and photography! Keep it coming!
