Why is the Patek Philippe Aquanaut (released in 1997) so popular today? I did not get it at first, but now I think I have figured it out ;-)

I am not an articulate man, I am not good at describing things. But that dark chocolate analogy was just so very, really, absolutely... perfect? The clip with the actual chocolate bar, the connotation of luxury, the resemblance to the watch, the effectiveness in conveying the message... That's why this channel is so good.

I think the aquanaut treads the line between understated style and sport in a way that not many other watches do. If money was no object, I would definitely have one in my collection.

Its simplicity is what makes it elegant and subtly classic. It's my favourite grail watch, great casual. John Mayer wears the travel time timepeace and says: " it's a watch you wear when you just want to wear a watch"

I agree aswell. The Nautilus feels very delicate on the wrist and it‘s not my taste. The bigger Aquanaut watches are more to my taste (don’t like the travel time 5164, though). And in the more traditional spectrum, I‘d take an AP15202 over a Nautilus every day.

To me it actually looks tropical. When I think of this watch I think of someone wearing it in a pool with palm trees in the background, and the dial reminds me of a globe which makes me think of a person traveling around the globe in tropical places. Lol

I like this version of the aquanaut. I've seen a few on a bracelet and those look amazing! Agreed the aquanaut is moving out of the shadow of the nautilus and getting its own fans.

The 4 is awful, the brushing on the bezel equally so. The aquanaut is a bad watch. They literally use a forty year old calatrava movement, throw it on rubber, and gauge the 'luxury sport' demo

To all the people in the comments that hate on patek. You're not cool. Have some respect for horology. Just because you can't afford it doesn't mean it sucks. You gotta try it on/see it in person to see it in it's glory. You don't like the look of the watch? Ok. People have different tastes, but that doesn't mean you should drag Patek's name on mud. Y'all "critiques" must think that grand seiko is a much better brand. Poor bastards.

No matter how beautiful is the Aquanaut (much more than Nautilus IMO) and it is a really beautiful one, 2 words : rubber strap !! We are talking about watches that start at 13 K € with a rubber strap. What else....

You should look at the actual images, not adulate brands. Did you notice 01:09, 01:36, 02:01, 02:15, 04:41, 04:49? Press play on all those time stamps, one or two may be a second early. Perfection isn't some brand gloss to be slung around. At these prices it needs actual delivery. You do need to be looking fullscreen at high res, but if you weren't I don't know on what basis you suggest 'perfection'.

Even though I'm on the waiting list of 5711 I just got my 5167-1A and I think 5167 is way more sporty and practical than 5711 which makes me doesn't care that much if i get the 5711 eventually or not it's just that good

I called the AD to get on a waiting list to buy an Aquanaut and they said I needed to buy at least four other PP's before I could get REWARDED with getting on the wait list. Buying even one PP is a BIG BIG stretch so I guess I'm not getting one.

This is one little PP chocolate bar that had better include a tall blond with low self-esteem in order to justify the $50K price tag. A screw-down crown but only 120m WR, which I suspect would relegate it to the wading pool -- Aquanot! But alas! It was a super sweet review of a bittersweet timepiece.

The first time I saw it in the wild was the quartz one, not this generation. I think it also has a solid case back for the entire series. I liked it and thought it would be a nice luxury sporty watch to have for daily wear. The prices were not crazy as I remembered. However at the end of the day I really wanted a mechanical version and with a display case back. It seems like out of reach now as all these sporty PP are reserved for VIPs with deep pockets. I learn to move on.

Aside from the stunning movement, the Aquanaut never really did anything for me. It just looks super basic to me. I would trade it out for three or four other watches that I like better.

Never liked the Nautilus, and though the Aquanaut is similar, i like it more . I would go for another Patek over those two. Personally i like the VC fifty six .

Ein Gutes Beispiel dafür, was Große Namen bewirken können. Wenn da nicht Patek draufstehen würde, kaum einer würde sich für solch eine Uhr interessieren. Durch geschicktes präsentieren von Influencern und durch Unterstützung von Händlern, wird aus einem Ladenhüter ein begehrenswertes Objekt gemacht. Wenn dann noch jemand über Liste bezahlt, dem ist wirklich nicht mehr zu helfen.

Not gonna lie, I would still choose the Nautilus over the aquanaut any day, while the strap dial combo does harmonize each other, it makes me feel like the dial itself is also made from rubber just like the strap. Though the rose gold and chocolate dial is starting to grow on me. Not gonna lie

I didn't see any holes on that rubber strap. How do you adjust the sizing? Do you give them your measurements and they make a strap that fits you exactly or am I missing something?

It’s actually quite simple - I was surprised,too! The rubber strap comes in one size and the ADs simply cut off the excess strap when fitting the watch to your wrist! The straps have ridges on the inside and they push these tiny bars attached to the ends of the clasp into the ridges of the strap. It’s not really visible but at around 3:20 when I’m holding the watch upside down you might get an idea of what I’m talking about 😅
