Why are the monsters less monsterous though? Why are they trying to make everything a marketable plush? Or just in general the designs are just not as detailes or creative as their predecessor?

That simply isn't true, they are easily the equivalent in the limited number of changes. Orcs are still orcs, no changes. Dragons are still powerful entities that are equally tiered to what existed before even their art style is classical and familiar. They've even re used lots of their original art for the huge numbers of unchanged monsters so not quite sure why you're suggesting they are less monstrous or less creative in the new book?

If you mean something like how mephits look now, they are, in fact, supposed to be unique creatures. Before they felt like imps with their skin dyed

This is part of the problem... Paizo is conceding that WOTC owns Balors? What precisely is Paizo suggesting they own, the name "Balor" which is straight out of Celtic mythology, re-envisioned by Catholicism OR a Balrog which is its actual description and straight out of Tolkien? And, Annis Hag comes from Black Annis, straight out of the folklore of the British Isles. Are they suggestion WOTC owns that too? Glad they got rid of "good" and "evil" too... obviously Gygax totally invented those concepts as well... ... ... Bloody morons...

In this case I am pretty sure it was more a case of differentiating demons from devils. Originally you have pit fiends which are big bad giant devil guy with big unholy fire and then you had Balor which is big bad demon guy with big unholy fire. With the demons instead being led by hunger driven death demons, with demins being manifestations of unholy destruction, it is a much more distinct fiend by comparison.

Yeah I definitely feel it's a design choice on balor. Not just Ogl drama, it's a good change

Dropping alignment isn't a big deal in modern games. I didn't need to check a demons entry to know it was a baddy. It doesn't really do anything, was just a redundant hang over from older games.

@@philtalkingd2079 I've avoided games with alignment since the 90s. Things are often more nuanced than that set of 9, which people tended to treat like personalities with no variety. Nature and demeanor as found in Vampire:the Masquerade is several notches better, but you really should just have one sheet of blank space to define those sort of things freeform.
