As I hit the 1500 hour mark I thought a good idea to share what I have learned in a few years of darts starting from complete beginner. What does it take and my pathway to becoming a pro darts player on 5000 hours or less !

Nice to see you again Ronnie. I think you can be pretty proud of yourself getting to the level you’ve reached in nearly 3 years. I’m sure you’ve hit many brick walls in that time. I think the hardest thing is understanding your own throw and finding what is actually right, being able to understand what you’re doing wrong and what you need to do to make right. All the very best with the journey and hopefully you’ll get some more practice videos out 👍🏻🎯

Personally I’m not near the standard you’ve reached. I’m anything between 55 - 65 average. Joined a team and played a few comps, just not enough competitive darts to be honest. You need to be playing face to face darts regularly, playing against people online or against the bot doesn’t really put you under the pressure that’s needed. Look forward to seeing the journey continue 👍🏻🎯

I do hope you go to Q school next year. Looking at some of the scores in the first stage this year I think you could've had a chance getting through. But I understand why you didn't, if you don't feel ready, you're not going to play well. I'm hoping to be ready in 3 years to go to Q school as my average is slowly going up and now I'm playing twice a week I should improve enough to hopefully play in my local super league next year. Keep up the hard work mate, it'll pay off 👍🏼🎯

I feel confident I would have got through the first stage but for me not good enough to do well in the second stage or on the pro tour. I will definitely be going next year as will do challenge tour and hopefully get some traction, I need to be going to Q School knowing I can beat pros not hoping to get a good draw 😊

Another great video mate. I think these people recording 180s and things on Tik tok really need to understand that you need to do this when you hear game on and it’s a different ball game. I have been playing properly for a year and Half now and I’m an 80+ average player. I represent Tyne and Wear county and that experience on the stage has brought me on unbelievably. Comps on the floor now there is no nerves what so ever. Keep going mate you have played a big part in how I have improved with your advice. Playing against Ryan Joyce and Kevin Mcdine every week helps also the advice they provide is brilliant.

Greetings from Kentucky in the US. Been watching your earlier videos for 2 weeks now working my way through them and I must say you have really good information. I have been throwing for 20 years in leagues and I am a decent darter but inconsistent. Since watching you I have started seeing a little more consistency in my game. I have a question though. Do you count league throwing time into the 10,000 hours? Going to my first ever tournament in a few weeks and I'm really looking forward to it. Keep up the great info, and good luck with your game.

Hey man, absolutely love what you're doing, really look forward to seeing where you're at each time I see a new video and am wishing you all the success in the future for you hard work. I have a couple of questions for you if you have time. I have been doing something very similar to you for around 6 to 7 months. I've set up a board and light in my lounge and bought a few nice sets of darts, then settled on one I like and been hitting maybe 2 to 4 hours of practice a day in that time and never really missing a day, just to see how good I can get and maybe play some competitive darts down the track. My main problem at the moment is that I'm not sold on the reliability of my grip, and just recently my throw seems to have gone off where I seem to throw a few wild darts and I can't quite hit my doubles properly etc. It comes back in, then I lose it again....is this common on your way to getting a really reliable grip and throw, and did you have to mess around with grip and throw style much on your way to where you are now? Like, I keep hearing people say "just throw however is comfortable and learn to aim it"...but I'm just not sure if that's entirely true or should I be tweaking mechanics? So yeah, I just felt like I was getting fairly reliable then I hit a bit of a hurdle and now I'm really trying everything to get it back. The other main question was, as far as the speed of the throw....are you just trying to straighten your arm quickly to sort of get that snap on the dart and keep it fairly straight, while keeping a fairly supple grip and wrist? I seem to be able to get the darts into the board heavy, so they thud in fairly hard, but they don't really have that little kick on the them at the end and I wonder if it's because I'm not flicking my arm quick enough? Cheers for your time anyway, and all your effort putting up this series, really enjoyable. 💖😎

Thanks for watching and glad your enjoying the content . Just on what you have said - to be honest I had to same thoughts and feelings from 250 hours to around 600 hours then I realised all the changing and grip doubt wasn’t helping. Go off of the numbers not your thought measure you different styles of throwing or grip and do matches against a lower level comp first to 4 and take the average of all three games- then see which one is best and stick with it. It will take a good amount of time for your throw to develop properly and you have to put the work in and be patient. Playing in tournaments and local matches in person against others will change everything so be prepared for this and go when your confidence is good in your throw. All the best 🙌
@blackie75
@blackie75 Жыл бұрын
@@RR10kTV I live very remotely (regional Tasmania) so tournaments are a pipe dream at the moment, unless it's online. But maybe down the track somewhere, when I'm starting to be happy I can go close to hitting what I want with some degree of consistency I might think about travelling. That's given me some food for thought and good info anyway, and I think I may just stick with my grip in that case and really try to just keep it absolutely the same without re-tweaking it all the time. One thing I have noticed is that if it goes "off" or whatever, I start hanging on to the darts or releasing badly, I seem to be able to hone it back in somewhat by making sure that I feel my fingers really extend out toward the target. I'm not sure if that's a thing, but it certainly seems to help. Cheers for the reply😉😉

Make a video of your throw from over your shoulder and look at the trajectory. It'll be something to do with the release, where you grip the dart or something your fingers/wrist/hand do. You might need to modify your action or maybe you're better suited to a different type of dart such as a shorter barrel shape (e.g. Steve Beaton or Andy Fordham) which are easier to lob with more of an arc rather than a long pencil type dart.

I am going to do a specialist dartitis video at some point but I do feel your pain. Darts is such a mental game and my best advice would be change your expectations when you go to through pressure and self pressure will do lots of things to your mind and body. If you can play with freedom to be in the moment and enjoy the darts it can help. Also don’t beat yourself up when you miss a double hit a 26 or pause on your throw, the best players in the world still do these under serious pressure.
@scottsilagyi7676

@@RR10kTV ....I believe you are correct about playing with freedom, thats been the way Ive done it for years on end, and only lately worrying about where every dart is landing instead of just letting them rip,is destroying my confidence and shot, there are times where it seemed like I could jump up and down on one foot and close one eye and take out a 140+ with ease, and now for some reason Im overanalyzing everything and not just playing foot loose and fancy free, and let that dartitus thought creep in, Thank you for getting back to me, I will try to get back to just playing free like you say..I'll keep you updated....Best of luck on your journey my friend ,I look so forward to seeing you on that big stage one day soon....I will be eagerly waiting on your dartitus video, ...Take care, hope to talk again soon....Scott
