During the process of awakening, Prince Siddhārtha first attained the state of Cessation of Sensation and Feeling (Saññā Vedayita Nirodha), the state of stopping the mind completely, also known as "insentience" (aka "Avijjā"). Refer to the video for a definition of Avijjā by Bhante Punnaji.

When Prince Siddhārtha finally attained awakening, he had attained the stopping of existence, a state of mind known as Nirodha-samāpatti. Bhante Punnaji explains that Nirodha-samāpatti is not the same as Saññā Vedayita Nirodha. Refer to the video for an explanation of Nirodha-samāpatti by Bhante Punnaji.
