My dear husband was being treated non stop in the ER'S trauma room. As they allowed me to sit in the corner of room . He was intubated n coded. I lost count. Then to ICU. He had dialysis with numerous iv's . Then he softly took God's hand to start his journey.. It has been 2 years now and I miss him so. RIP 10-13-3021

Her mom sounds like my step mom. She wouldn’t feed me either. She hated me because I looked like my Mom. She beat me in the morning for wetting the bed. Then in the summer she sent me to the park from 7:00am til 4:50 pm wouldn’t feed me food or send food to the park. I was only 8 years old. My Father had custody of my sister and me. I was so afraid of her, she lived to torture me because I looked like my mom. I learned that my father never really loved me, after my sister told my real Mom what was going on she instantly told my Dad get her out of that house or I’m taking you to court and getting her back. We moved out but he never stopped seeing her and being with her. My father was in the hospital for hernia surgery and took a turn for the worse. My Mom called my Dads family and they came right away. He died on 10/01/68. My bday is the 4 th so my stepmother wanted him buried on that day. My Aunt refused to let that happen. My step mom wanted custody of My sister and me. We had to go to court the stepmother thought she’d get money 💰 for us. Well I was so upset about living with her that I told the Judge I’d run away and he asked why. Well he took me into his chambers and I told him everything he then sent me with assistant and asked my sister to come and talk to him. She totally confirmed everything I said. We went back in to court. My family was there my dads side. The Judge told the court what she had done to me and all the abuse I suffered. My Aunt and Grandma were crying they had no idea what I had gone through. So my Aunt got Custody of us. The Judge said he’d put her in jail if she even came near me.

Won’t get pain treatment like this in the states, not with the war on drugs thats made it awful for real chronic pain patients who are often forced to suffer unnecessarily. They think everyone who asks for pain meds is already a drug addict. The fear and stigma is way overblown.

These 24 Hours in A&E episodes are so good. Poor Paula having an upbringing like she did, absolutely disgraceful behaviour from anyone let alone a mother. Interesting when people say it's a miracle the patient thankfully came through, maybe, but it's the hard and dedicated skills, effort and care from all the various medical professionals that can make the difference.

Paula color changed right before our eyes. As a nurse I picked it up right away. Her O2 Sat bottomed, glucose bottomed. O2 sat was put on her ear. That is a critical sign. I watched my Father in law fade as he coded and I had already told the nurse 2 hours earlier he wasn’t right. They coded him but he didn’t make it. I had lost my MIL, My Husband and now my FIL that I took care of after my husband died. It’s been a long 5 years without them.

I have a lot of admiration for the nurses and doctors - because these special people saved my life, and rehabilitated me - back to my normal life, about a year ago, when I fell from a tall ladder while reportedly, painting the back of my house - alone. I sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI for short), and am thankful for our modern medical wonders too. I did not suffer from any major pain, and the patience of the people who helped me, was endless.

Paula‘s daughters are at a bad spot being that heavy. They could turn into type one or type two diabetics because of being so overweight and how much pressure that is putting on their hearts to work overtime making sure that it’s pumping correctly. Last thing in the world I’d want to be is a diabetic, but the truth of the matter is, I am a type one diabetic since I was nine years old and I’m 62 years old now and I would never wish it upon anybody. I’m glad Paula is doing so much better. With the symptoms that she had mentioned how she felt I had wondered if she was having a diabetic Lo blood sugar and here she was. It’s not that I’m picking on overweight people. It’s more that I worry about them being overweight and having to deal with a life-changing illness like diabetes. It’s no fun in the park. Imagine being a fireman and smoking that many cigarettes in one day, wow!!

UK people wouldn't survive at my hospital in the US- the whole campus is smoke free. You can't just step outside you have to get off the property completely. Smoking is not culturally as prevalent though. Which may be one of the only positive things, since imagine all the stabbings on this show were shootings- then you have an idea.

This is the 1st time I've been aggravated at the care I've seen given at the St. George's ER. Maybe I just don't know enough about the other specialties but I sure as heck know you don't call potassium "salt" unless you're deliberately trying to confuse the patient and their family. Call it by its proper name, which is "electrolyte". *And learn your protocol!* Giving a patient insulin and dextrose is a sure fire way to *kill them* by inducing severe hypoglycemia. Hanging a bag of dextrose will lower their potassium without the same risk, but even so, the patients' blood glucose and K+ (potassium level) needs to be monitored, *and* they should be on a continuous cardiac monitor while the drip is running and for up to eight hours afterward. Poor woman, this is the *worst* feeling.
