Stella was Alex Kidd's girlfriend in the Alex Kidd: Lost Stars arcade game. It's also a name of one of their game engines, so not sure which Stella it's refering to. But the MD port was apparantly made in less than eight weeks, and in tandem witht he arcade machine, so Sega could have created it as a showpiece for the console. "look how arcade perfect it is!" Etc.

I recently bought a Japanese PS2, so maybe I'll nab the Japanese version of Project Altered Beast if it's so cheap. Though honestly, I wish Sega would take another crack at it. I know few people associate Relic or Creative Assembly with beat'em ups, but both have made some awesome hidden gems in the genre. CA's made Spartan and Viking Total Warrior, and Relic's made the super well-loved Warhammer Space Marine. Now that they're owned by Sega, it would be pretty nice to see one of them do something with Altered Beast when they need another break from Strategy games... and the other studio can try making a new Golden Axe ;) Great vid! I even learned some new fun facts about this one :D I'm also glad you were so thorough about it; not enough people seem to know about THQ's Guardians of the Realm for the GBA, but I loved that game back in the day. That was one of those remakes/sequels that felt like how you _remember_ the original game to be.

I'm sure at some point Sega will dust off this IP and try again. There is too much rich history there for them not to. Thank you for the nice words, I try to be as thorough as possible in my videos and dig up what little known facts I can.

PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries no, no arcade. They might’ve had two games, but I believe it was just the one altered beast machine in the back. Thank you. There are just some games that shouldn't even be converted. Take a look at hard-drivin for the Commodore 64. Publishing companies will see dollar signs and that's all it takes. They will put out a box of crap if they think it will sell
These games themselves are old (as am I) but your videos make me feel young!

I remember being tremendously drawn to this game as a kid, mostly because those arcade graphics were ahead of the other arcade games of the time, and the whole setting was - and is - very attractive to me. Funnily enough, I just happen to love the NES version, even though it has all those shortcomings. I enjoyed the extra stages - they were not just recycled sprites and backgrounds - as well as the extra beasts you could play with. I specially loved the shark and the stage boss of the sea stage, that gigantic octopus. It was so awesome! To top it off, it even has a very cool animated ending, which includes Zeus himself! How cool is that? Nice video, thanks for the info!
