Lou Gramm (born Louis Andrew Grammatico; May 2, 1950) is an American rock vocalist and songwriter best known for his role as the lead vocalist and co-writer of many of the songs for the rock band Foreigner. He also had a successful solo career. Gramm was the vocalist for many top-40 hits including "Cold as Ice", "Waiting for a Girl Like You", "I Want to Know What Love Is" and his solo hit "Midnight Blue". In 2009, the Lou Gramm Band released their self-titled album of Christian rock.

Lou is such a classy, genuine and humble human being. You could never imagine watching this interview that he was possibly the greatest rock vocalist in history. If it wasn’t for his unfortunate illness, he would surely have continued his success for a good while longer.Personally, I don’t believe there has ever been a better rock vocalist and frontman than Lou. His ability of belting out powerful, raw classics like Hot Blooded, Jukebox Hero, Urgent and Double Vision along with some of Foreigner’s beautiful rock ballads, proved that his vocal range was unsurpassed. Love you Lou, may God bless you with continued good health for the future.

Lou as a rock singer was a hero for me in my youth, he always gave 100 %, his voice was phenomenal and full of deep emotion. When I heard of his severe health problems in the late 90s, I was totally shocked and very sad. When he recovered, I was so happy for him and about the fact he has survived. He is such a nice human being and I wish him only the best for the rest of his life.

I saw Foreigner in the mid-90s after Lou Gramm re-joined the band and after his brain tumor was removed. He was on steroids and forgot the lyrics at times, and stumbled on stage, but he powered through it.

He's soo humble & seems quiet and shy until he sings. One of those vocalists that sings from his heart.. He has such feeling behind that voice. Can tell he's a sensitive soul. Love him. Thank god I discovered Foreigner in 1998 when I was 18 and when I bought their stuff every song is just class. x

I will never forget the first time I heard "I want to know what love is"- I was in my parked car in NYC circa 1985- I had rigged up my own stereo system with an amplifier & walkman (car stero thefts were high!)- I was coming back from a class...turned on the radio..and my car filled with this song..I was absolutely stunned and taken! I had never heard such intensity and beauty.

Lou fronted a band called Shadow King in 1991 with Viv Campbell (Dio, Def Leppard, Whitesnake Guitarist) Shadow King had that early 90's AOR sound. Lou's vocals on the Shadow King album were fantastic on the harder songs he sings rougher than he ever sung before. The Shadow King album was good but they only made one. In The 70's a few years before Foreigner Lou was the singer for a Rochester band called Black Sheep. Black Sheep released two good albums a self titled album in 1974 and Encouraging Words in 1975 to this day both Black Sheep albums have not been issued on Cd. I can guarantee they would sell i hold out hope that a record label will one day release them.

Lou is definitely one of the top 5 rock vocalists of all time IMHO, & that's some heady company. And, without a doubt, Foreigner has always been one of my favorite bands. With such phenomenal personal success, who would have thought that he would be such a humble, & grounded guy? I hope that his health continues to improve. P.S. The interviewer mentioning that he was only 5... really??? Not the most tactful thing to say in an interview. heheh

Lou keeps saying in interviews that "That Was Yesterday" was the first single. It wasn't. It was the second single. "I Want To Know What Love is" was the first single, and it came out at the end of 1984. Anyway, The minute I first heard "Feels Like The First Time" on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 in mid-1977, I was a fan.

Yea he was a singer thirty to forty years ago (I wasn't born) he hasn't been singing anymore which I think is good. I don't like how Foreigner has turned out so far, I think Lou Gramm over here has set the standards straight over his younger days active in the band, and the readjustments in the present foreigner are obviously not working out, I think its a good idea that the band just comes to an end overall, not the mention what we're going through right now as a nation.

+shawn gregory You should know what you're talking about before you speak. Lou Gramm had a non malignant brain tumor removed in the 1990's which damaged his pituitary gland in his brain. This caused his weight gain when it was removed. May you never have to go through what he has been through.
