As a Chiefs fan, this was the feeling I had for this game all offseason, I knew that Detroit was getting much better and if the game stayed close it could go either way. Team will learn from it and improve, but nobody is going to give the Chiefs any slack, it is the price of being the defending champs, we will get the best from every team every game, mistakes will cost any team the chance to win and last night was bad football on the offensive side and one critical special teams breakdown. Defense played pretty well outside of having to come back on the field after the fake punt and the long drive near the end of the game that put Detroit up. The Chiefs had their chances but key mistakes on dropped passes plagued them all night and gifted 7 points to Detroit on the pick 6. 4-14 on 3rd down is not winning formula material. Let's see how the team responds going forward but losing in week 1 is hardly grounds for packing in the season any more than winning week 1 is a crowning achievement. Congrats to the Lions (having family that are longtime fans, I understand your fanbase pain), this team is going to be a force in the NFC and the NFL. I like Dan Campbell; he is a no nonsense as a coach.

Mahomes finally felt what Herbert and the Chargers felt when both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams were out multiple games. His WR1, WR2, WR3 were Josh Palmer, DeAndre Carter, and Michael Bandy and people blasted Herbert for having a subpar year.

I have no idea why people have been downplaying the Lions after their amazing win. They played spectacularly. Even on the drives that the chiefs scored touchdowns, it required multiple incredible throws by Patrick, several on 3rd down. There were at least two passes Mahomes threw that were almost intercepted. The Lions defense looks amazing. And Jared Goff also was making incredibly strong throws standing brave and tall in the picket, unflinching under pressure. The Lions look like a 12-5/13-4 team. This is coming from a Ravens fan. Justin Tucker might need to kick a 70 yard game-winning field goal to beat them next time.

Jags are no slouches so they need Kelce back asap. Mahomes is great but when they go up against teams with formidable rosters it’s going to be a problem. Chiefs have gotten lackadaisical in terms of keeping talent around Mahomes. You got away with it getting rid of Hill but you’re stretching it now with not signing Chris Jones and fools that thought the offense wouldn’t miss a beat without Kelce.

KC had all the pressure on them. It was coronation night and they were expected to hand the lions over to their fans on a silver platter. The big mistake was underestimating their opponent.

Let me first start by saying that comparing anybody to Tom Brady is beyond ridiculous. However, if Patrick is supposed to be the next great one, he’s going to have to elevate his teammates around him. How many times did we see Brady without Gronk in his top receivers and go deep into the playoffs reach a Super Bowl and even win one, without his best players out there. That’s one of the many things that made him so special, he elevated the players he had. People forget Patrick Mahomes has had the luxury of players like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, and a great offensive coach like Andy Reid from the very beginning of his career. Brady never had those luxuries. Patrick is going to have to learn how to win, despite having the very best players on the field if he wants to take those next steps. 💯🤷🏿‍♂️

This Chiefs loss is entirely on coaching calls who kept going to Toney over and over and over again after it was obvious from the get go that he wasn't ready. MVS had good catches from the start because he had lots of reps and had much more experience with Mahomes and the offense than any of the newer guys. BUT, he was barely looked at. Is it incompent NAGY's calls or Reid's unwillingness to move away from Toney?

Not having Travis on the field was a bigger issue in the heads of Chiefs' receivers. Their psyche wasn't right for this game; mental preparation was clearly deficient, showing in the lack of reception productivity. The talent is there. Just need to do better with getting focused on the game rather than being focused on who plays and who doesn't. Win as a TEAM. Lose as a TEAM. But everyone needs to fulfill their respective individual responsibilities in order to win as a team. Also, on third-and-one, run the ball straight ahead. Why throw in short-yardage situations?

When a receiver "hot-potatoes" a pass into the hands of a db it shouldn't be recorded as an interception. That's not even what that word means outside of football. It means to cut off something on the way from one place to another. It just bothers me that this gets recorded as an error on Mahomes when he put it into his WR's hands.
