After learning more about his fathers status in the army, Patrick Stewart is able to track down his father's whereabouts during the second world war. One of his many conquests was 'Operation Dragoon' in the south of France. Dick Hargreaves, who served with Alfred Stewart shows Patrick the paratroopers drop zone.

He's a Para. Many of the ones I've met from WWII, if given a chance, would jump again.

@Isaiah Jammes Right--- they know that. I jumped last October with a Normandy veteran watching. Of course, if he could've, he would've. But he was 97. The heart was there but not the body. Later that evening when there was a night jump, he went along to watch. His son remarked casually that the last time his dad was in a C-47 at night it was 5 June, 1944.

I'm a huge fan of Patrick Stewart. I never knew this about his father. My father also fought in Operation Dragoon.

My husband’s uncle was ww2 parachutist in the US Army in Italy. He chose the parachutist route because it was an additional $10 a month in wages. In 2020, that would be an extra $159.00, a 1500% cumulative inflation rate from 1942 to 2020.

My Granddad was part of the US navel arm of the operation. He ran the communications lines the night before the drop. He lost a friend that night.The friend was badly burned and My Grandad got his morphine and his buddies morphine and gave him both. He went to sleep . That really messed my Grandad up.

"with American pilots, who knows, they weren't too hot.". One wonders just what it was about American pilots that set him off.

I remember seeing interviews of American infantrymen saying their biggest danger was American pilots. (Extremely inaccurate bombing.) So maybe it was just an honest observation.
